In the current era of spread offenses and short passing Dick Lane's record will never be broken. Lester Hayes had 13 with 4 more called back due to penalties. In the playoffs he had 5 more. Lester actually had 22 interceptions in 1980
Also, teams would give up throwing to that side as soon as a CB reaches 7 INTs. I'm sure guys like Revis and Woodson would reach double digit INTs if QBs threw to their side more often.
@naturalcreature6317Another guy who deserves mention (though not as much as those two) is arguably Tom Landry. 4-3 defense and shotgun formation in particular.
When Largent broke his TD record it was like wow. That record felt untouchable. And he could've put it out of reach for awhile longer had the Pack wanted to pay him. Putting him next to his eras contemporaries statistics wise is insane. Putting what he did into context in any era seems absurd. When he left, the Packers wandered as an organization.
@@Gungho73 Not only that, but he also held the records for receptions and receiving yards when he retired, and held them until the next great Packer receiver, Billy Howton passed them in 1962 (possibly their best player in the 50’s).
@@fortynights1513 Didn't know that about Howton actually! Yeah the general public doesn't understand how absurdly far beyond Hutson was to everyone in the league in that point. The Packers didn't want to pay him and granted he was getting later in his career but you could feel the shift the second that decision was made. Few decisions in history can be immediately linked to a franchises decline like that one was.
@@Gungho73 Billy Howton on a side note, in spite of retiring with the most receptions and receiving yards in 1963 (though both were quickly passed by Raymond Berry) is not in Canton. Howton played with Babe Parilli who had a good career, and a rookie Bart Starr as his best quarterbacks. It seems counterintuitive now, but given that many schemes were smashmouth based through the 1980’s, quarterbacks who threw a lot of passes and for a lot of yards, and receivers who caught a lot of yardage worth of passes were called unimpactful if they got those numbers and their teams didn’t perform, because voters argued that they only had the numbers they did because the game wasn’t well managed and their teams were losing. Given that we call quarterbacks game managers, it may hold some water in their analysis, but it doesn’t mean the receivers weren’t doing their jobs well, even if in losing efforts. Howton and the 70’s Ram receiver Harold Jackson (who similarly retired second all time in receiving yards in 1983) both ultimately have the most receiving yards in their respective decades, and neither made the all decade team of the 50’s or 70’s, or Canton because of this perception by voters at the time. Ultimately those are the only two receivers in the top 15 of career receiving yards through 1985 that aren't in Canton, and in my opinion both have been overlooked and snubbed.

@Harry Engel in my opinion the buccaneers 26 game losing streak is the most unbreakable for several reasons. 1. Nobody wants to break it. 2. You probably can’t assemble a team that would lose 26 straight games even if you tried. 3. The second worst streak is 19 straight games by several teams, so nobody has really come close
Marino with 48 TDs in 1984 was the best season I ever saw because no one else was even close. He threw for 5000 yards and destroyed the NFL record for yards and TDs. The previous record for TDs was 37!

Marino's single season 48 touchdown passes is still more impressive because he played in a tougher era with defenses that were actually allowed to play and hit the quarterback
Dickerson should be #1. It still stands. Oj did 2000 first, then Dickerson which was in 84 or 85 and is still the record. Barry got close, Jamal Lewis got closer. Td and cj2k both got over 2 grand. AD (adrian Peterson) was 9 yards short but its 2020 and still stands. Marino in 84 it stands for 20 years. Then Manning. It stands for 3 years. Brady in 07. Then in 13 manning shatters it. In 2011 there were 5 or 6 QBs who got past some of the Marino numbers. Dickerson still has the rookie rushing record and the next season he has the single season all time rushing mark. In the words of Deontay Wilder...To this Day.
@@johnbrowntheprophet That's not how records work Mitch. You don't get to go back in time and say a player "would" have done something, therefore they are better. By that logic, there's guys who played when the season was 12 games (Jim Brown) that would have had the record.

It's mainly because the Rushing Yard Total was the main stat. He was 13th in the League in Rushing Yards. He had 1050 Rushing Yards. Marcus Allen led the League with 1759...but all purpose yards you say! Marcus Allen had an addition 67 receptions for 555 yards giving him more all purpose yards. Roger Craig played played during an Era with people like Walter Payton, Marcus Allen, Tony Dorsett. He was good at everything but great at nothing. Very useful for the team he played on.

Gale Sayers was really a phenomenal icon in the history of the NFL he's a real true phenom 1965 he had 6 touchdowns in one game versus 49ers but 22 touchdowns as a Rookie that's making a big impact and making a statement R.I.P to the one and only legendary Gale Sayers
Yah but the difference is that Brady beat Manning in the 2007 season, went undefeated & made the superbowl close. Manning lost to Brady in the 2013 season & got destroyed in the Superbowl.
Dan Marino Miami Dolphins 🐬 Quarterback 1984/85 NFL MVP 5,084 passing yards and 48 touchdown passes in his second season as a Dolphin 🐬 It took until thirty years for Brees to break Marino’s passing record & Manning to break Marino’s touchdown record
Barry Sanders 1997. Three 80 yard touchdowns (2 in one game), ran for 2,053 yards which 53 were from the first 2 games and then exactly 2,000 in the last 14 games, 6.1 yards per carry, 11 rushing touchdowns, 3 receiving touchdowns, and wearing that beautiful Honolulu Blue jersey
Thank you!! Not enough people talking about Barry! Greatest RB to ever play, no question. I tell people, "he's your favorite running back's favorite running back." Lol
Certainly an amazing season on Barry’s part. I’d also throw in Walter Payton in 1977 who led the league in rushing yards, yards per carry, yards from scrimmage, and rushing touchdowns, and won an MVP. For as mid as Barry Sander’s offensive lines were, in 1997 he had a pro bowl center at least, and his team’s top receiver was also an all pro unlike Payton’s. Payton in 1977 had no player on his offense other than himself get any individual recognition that year, and in fact none of his teammates would ever win an individual accolade in their career.
Yeah this is the older episode. They've since updated it and replaced Tom Brady in 2007 with Peyton Manning in 2013 as #1, but now they have to replace Marvin Harrison in 2003 with Michael Thomas in 2019. Still do appreciate the uploads though.
Marvin's season is still better in my opinion. It seemed like Thomas was pretty much the only guy that Brees and Bridgewater targeted last season, whereareas Harrison wasn't the only guy targeted since the Colts also had Wayne, Stokley, and Pollard
"If they extend the season from 16 games to 18 games. That is the only way it can be broken" -reference to Brady's 50 touchdown passes -few years and surgery/team change later Manning- "Hold my 55 touchdowns" But being serious the performances are iconic (and I know this was filmed before Manning's 55)but besides beating Brady's by 5 Manning did that at the end of his career not during his prime with arguably a less talented team around him (no Marvin Harrison or James at RB/not saying the cast he had was bad though). Add that a couple years before that having surgery and missing a season with reports of his arm being "a noodle" than throwing 5 MORE than the record is amazing. The crazy thing is I don't think that record is safe cause Mahomes tied Brady in his 1st starting season.
It was a ludicrous statement to say as Marino had 48 and Brady got 50 ..to think someone couldn't come along to get one more in a 16 game season was laughable...of course it's all moot now
There's no way Brady's season was better than Marino's. Marino broke the record by 12 touchdowns, he got the second most with 44 in 1986, and it wasn't until 1995 that another player threw more than the old record of 36. Putting Brady above Marino in 1984 is ridiculous.
Lawrence Taylor Giants OLB 1986/87 NFL MVP & 1986/87 NFL DPOY 20 sacks in 16 games Only linebacker in league history ever named MVP & DPOY in the same season
Roger Craig was essentially the Marshall Faulk of the mid 1980s Three players in league history were able to eclipsed 1K reception yards and 1K rushing yards in a season Roger Craig, Marshall Faulk & Christian Mccaffrey
I feel they should have acknowledged Chuck Foreman in there. In 1973, he caught over 70 passes had just under 700 yards while rushing for over 1000 yards, and 22 total touchdowns. Heading into the final game he was leading the league in receptions, rushing yards and touchdowns. He may not have been the duel threats that Clark and Faulk were but he deserves to be in the conversation.
Marino holds the record till manning breaks in the 2000's then Brady breaks it in 07 then manning breaks it again in 13. Marino over Mosley's. Manning's 2013 should replace his other entry.
@Harry Engel IDK how Reggie and Walter aren't on here already bro, it's crazy LOL but I think Mahomes will be on herd for a couple of reasons, even though it isn't the record breaker: 1. He's the only other player to have that season besides Manning in 2013 - 50+ TDs and 5k+ yards 2. He DOES have the record currently for most TDs at this point in their careers, beating even Marino. That's amazing 3. It was his FIRST starting season! LOL it's ridiculous that he was THAT good THAT early. It took Manning 15 years of playing to get that season. Mahomes did it his first time out 🤷🏾♂️ that's unfathomable
@Harry Engel Oh yeah I think so too, absolutely 💯 honestly I have no clue what the criteria is for these lists. How in the HELL is Reggie and Walter not on here?? Reggie only played 11 games! 🤣 it's crazy man
Just started. But night train lane 14 picks in 12 games as a rookie better be on here. He was left off the best rookie seasons so I’m gonna he salty if he ain’t here either
Eric Dickerson 2,107 rushing yards In his second season with the Los Angeles Rams We'll never see anything like that again Not even close To me that's the number one single season performance in the history of the game of football 🏈
84 Marino is the best season ever, no debate Marino threw 48 tds in the 80s, it took Manning with a god tier wr core to break it by 1 td... And Brady needed arguably the most talented wr ever having to catch 23 of his 50 tds to match Marino.. 84 Marino is the best qb season ever no debate
Compared to the beating Johnny Unitas and Bart Star had to put with. Imagine the stats they would have playing 17 games, with pass heavy offenses, and rules that keep QB's from taking a pounding and having longer careers.
I don’t mean to be disrespectful to other people’s opinions, but Eric Dickerson’s 1984 season is still the greatest single season a player has ever had. And in my opinion he is the greatest running back of all time.
I think that Eric Dickerson's 2105 rushing yards in 1984 can be broken. Adrian Peterson was 9 yards from breaking it the season he rushed for 2000 yards so it's possible.
Ya definitely. Though, the league and defenses have changed so much, making it much harder. OJ ran for 2000 yds. when there was only 14 games, then for the next 32 years with 16 games, only 6 players broke 2000. Now we have 17 games! Lol
@@nicholasadams2374 You do have to admit that teams tend to not have one player rush the ball as much as they used to. 17 games, but chances are that most running backs are playing in tandem.
The NFL ruined a huge aspect of the game when they moved the kickoff up and made it a guaranteed touchback. A big hit draws a flag regardless if it was within the rules or not.
Without Moss, Brady wouldn't have reached 42 TD passes. Moss was a total freak who had the hands of fly trap. His speed didn't hurt. I'm a Packers fan, but you have to give the guy his props.
The reason it's not done anymore is because soccer style kicking is factually better from a mechanical standpoint. But yeah, the single bar should be back, give back the kickers some of their personality lol
Marshal Faulk got 2000 rushing and receiving yards 4 seasons in a row, this is the one hit wonder list, so I'd disqualify him too. Though Faulk got 2428yds compared to Craig's 2026yds.

Don Hutson had 17 touchdown receptions in an 11 ball game season
He really changed the league for all time
When Largent broke his TD record it was like wow.

Funny how a couple of these records that they call unbreakable have now been broken in the last 5 years
Different game...
Harry Engel this is great 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Harry Engel don’t forget night train lane 14 picks in a single season. Not to mention it was only a 12 game season. That record will never be touched
@Harry Engel in my opinion the buccaneers 26 game losing streak is the most unbreakable for several reasons. 1. Nobody wants to break it. 2. You probably can’t assemble a team that would lose 26 straight games even if you tried. 3. The second worst streak is 19 straight games by several teams, so nobody has really come close
lol but true
Marino with 48 TDs in 1984 was the best season I ever saw because no one else was even close. He threw for 5000 yards and destroyed the NFL record for yards and TDs. The previous record for TDs was 37!
Previous record was 36, but point taken
That is why it is considered the #1 passing season!
Dude you are amazing for all these NFL Top 10 uploads. Seriously, it’s been stressful with everything going on in the World and these videos are the only thing that helps me get some sleep. Whenever it’s time to go to bed I just go to your channel (I’m subscribed of course), see what new uploads you have and slowly fall asleep. If there was a Top 10 UA-camrs you would be #1. Haha...
Marino's single season 48 touchdown passes is still more impressive because he played in a tougher era with defenses that were actually allowed to play and hit the quarterback
Another classic gem I was waiting for u to upload another one thanks bro
You're welcome.
O.J. Simpson ran for 2,000 yards during a 14-game season. That tops Dickerson’s best season by far. 🤷🏻♂️
@@johnbrowntheprophet absolutely insanity should’ve been Marino 1 OJ 2

@kawazu15 - What I’m saying is that if Simpson had also played a 16-game season, then he would have destroyed the rushing record. 🤷🏻♂️
@@johnbrowntheprophet That's not how records work Mitch. You don't get to go back in time and say a player "would" have done something, therefore they are better. By that logic, there's guys who played when the season was 12 games (Jim Brown) that would have had the record.
OJ's 2000 yd season in 72 💯 2000+ yds in 14 games 👀

Over 6 yds per carry!!! Add 1 or 2 games to that season and OJ has 2200+ yds.....in the 70s 👀 He was immortal that year!!! 33 Roger CRAiG has got to be the most underrated & forgotten RB there is anymore.
I remember he was HUGE back in 88-90 he was considered the best RB in the Game or @ least top 3.
His name rang out back then and I was really little.
Only sports names that made it through to a kid so young I didn’t even watch anything but cartoons still but yet somehow I knew ROGER CRAiG & Jose Canseco and I don’t even live in NoCal.
Respect to the guys like Craig!
Michael Thomas broke Marvin Harrison's record in 2019 with 149 receptions.
This was obviously made prior to that dumbass. This came out in 2009 I’m pretty sure

Yeah you this is old when Brady is #1 for single season touchdown passes. Manning would be #1 now with 55 touchdown passes.
Yah but the difference is that Brady beat Manning in the 2007 season, went undefeated & made the superbowl close.
Manning lost to Brady in the 2013 season & got destroyed in the Superbowl.

Marino should be #1!
This Epsiode aired in 2007. Dated for sure still a great watch
Marvin Harrison ballin in sum 14's what a legend
@FortyNights I loved Sweetness. I still feel bad he didn't get the chance to score in the Super Bowl.
Harry Engel he joined the Colts the following season in 2003!
seeing this as old as it is and thinking how the list would change today is really mind boggling 😂
Mark Moseley- last straight on kicker in the NFL. And those single bar facemasks look so old-timey...
"If they extend the season from 16 games to 18 games. That is the only way it can be broken" -reference to Brady's 50 touchdown passes
-few years and surgery/team change later
Manning- "Hold my 55 touchdowns"
But being serious the performances are iconic (and I know this was filmed before Manning's 55)but besides beating Brady's by 5 Manning did that at the end of his career not during his prime with arguably a less talented team around him (no Marvin Harrison or James at RB/not saying the cast he had was bad though). Add that a couple years before that having surgery and missing a season with reports of his arm being "a noodle" than throwing 5 MORE than the record is amazing. The crazy thing is I don't think that record is safe cause Mahomes tied Brady in his 1st starting season.
The only Quarterback records I see standing is Favre throwing 336 picks for his career and George Blanda throwing 42 (how?!?) in a single season
@Harry Engel If Lamar Jackson ever makes the Super Bowl and wins... this could be a record that would have some contention

Roger Craig, Marshall Faulk & Christian Mccaffrey
Husker fan here so im particularly biased, but why tf he isnt in the HOF is amazing
@Harry Engel if they update it again, Mahomes season should be on it 💯
@Harry Engel IDK how Reggie and Walter aren't on here already bro, it's crazy LOL but I think Mahomes will be on herd for a couple of reasons, even though it isn't the record breaker:
1. He's the only other player to have that season besides Manning in 2013 - 50+ TDs and 5k+ yards
2. He DOES have the record currently for most TDs at this point in their careers, beating even Marino. That's amazing

There were only 5 QB’s that season who passed for more than 1000 yards.
We all know Manning’s 55 tds and 5,477 yard season would know be number 1 now
Still think Marino was more impressive for his time and should be #1.
Marino in 84 & Unitas in 1959 were better.

Atlanta went 7-7 that year because they only scored 179 pts, including 21 pts by their defense.
AND, they held Walter Payton to only 69 yards in what is thought to be his greatest year!!
84 Marino is the best season ever, no debate
Marino threw 48 tds in the 80s, it took Manning with a god tier wr core to break it by 1 td...
And Brady needed arguably the most talented wr ever having to catch 23 of his 50 tds to match Marino..
84 Marino is the best qb season ever no debate
Marino had Clayton and Duper. No one is throwing 3 TD's a game with average receivers.
How can the Miami Dolphin undefeated season not be on this list?
They listed the Gritz Blitz as a unit, so they can't say this was limited to individual accomplishments.
I still can't believe that Roger Craig isn't in the Hall Of Fame like this is ridiculously crazy like come on now!
Tom Brady in an era where you can barely look at the QB w/o being fined & penalized...
Compared to the beating Johnny Unitas and Bart Star had to put with. Imagine the stats they would have playing 17 games, with pass heavy offenses, and rules that keep QB's from taking a pounding and having longer careers.
I know. Now they have to actually cover guys and play defense instead of just assaulting players. Sad times I guess.
Toe kicking may be dead forever, but we need the single bar kicker facemask to make a comeback.
The reason it's not done anymore is because soccer style kicking is factually better from a mechanical standpoint. But yeah, the single bar should be back, give back the kickers some of their personality lol
Don Hutson’s quarterback during 1942 was NOT Arnie Herber. It was Cecil Isbell

Marino should be on the list for how long it stood. Mosley's should be nowhere close 1) he is a kicker 2) it's a short season. Barry matched OJ for 2000 yards in 14 games...in a row. Barry had 53 yards the first 2 games. Marino 100 percent deserves it. Barry 2000 is 2nd. Mosley's should not even be a honorable mention
Not sure Hutson's season should be given that much consideration since it was done during WWII, when the talent was greatly diminished.

@Jamie Koering I don't know what or who that is.
Yeah then the Falcons allowed 290 points the next season and the Bears set the NFL points against record in 86.. but this is single season performances.
But still 85 Bears, 10 points allowed in the playoffs. I'm curious how many points the Falcons would have allowed against the Cowboys, Steelers etc. Doubt it would be 10 points allowed during the entire post season.. though their offense was awful which never helps your defense.
Considering the '77 Falcons got the benefit of the last year you could mug receivers all the way down the field plus the fact the '85 Bears won the Super Bowl with an overwhelming post season the Bears are definitely the more impressive of the two.
