    This is absolutely the best series on how to use Gaia GPS. You are a very good instructor/teacher!

    Excellent Roger! I always feel like I'm stumbling around thru the app, but your videos really help me understand it much better. (And I've watched many on this app, but they didn't go into as much depth as you did). Thank you!

    Great video Unfortunately here in Australia we only have about 2/3 map layers that are of any real use available to us.
    Thankfully the Gaia Overlander map in meters is one of the usable layers. The combo of layers for me is the Overlander layer and the "Satellite with labels" layer.

    I will echo what others wrote - absolutely best guide series I've watched so far. And I've watched a couple in order to be ready for my first off-grid trip.

    Awesome video series!! Thanks !! Really this needs to be used by Gaia to teach using their super complicated app.

    Really enjoying your Tutorials. I’ve been using Gaia for several years and still learning.
    Just a quick note about running the web version of Gaia on an iPad and probably other tablets. The web version on a mobile device does not let you have multiple layers. You can have multiple layers in the app but not in the web version. The “Layered Maps” toggle is greyed out.

    Really great job on these videos. I’m loving the careful and detailed explanation at a pace that one can follow. I do have a question. If you make a change on the web version related to layers for instance, does that change carryover to the mobile version if both devices are signed into my account?

    • @ggg4runner
      @ggg4runner  3 місяці тому

      If you're talking about offline data on your mobile then no, changes on the web version do not automatically sync. You'd have to download a new offline map to change available offline layers. If you're talking about layer changes in regards to just what you're viewing while online, also no. Changing what layers you're using on mobile or web won't affect each other. The only data that syncs across both platforms is the data that you actually create and/or import like waypoints, routes, etc.

    Great tutorials. I've been a Gaia user for years but watching your tutorials will make my experience way better. Since I have saved a lot of tracks with what I have learned are the wrong map layers, is there a way to go back and edit the active layers of previously saved tracks so that I can save them in the new active maps I'd rather use?

    • @ggg4runner
      @ggg4runner  10 місяців тому +1

      Tracks are its own set of data, that is, independent of any map layer(s). The same goes for Waypoints and Routes (although Waypoints that are created while recording a Track are tied to that Track's data). If you are wanting maps for offline use then you just have to save new offline maps with the layer(s) that you want and you'll still have access to all of your Tracks, Routes and Waypoints.

    Excellent training! I am on iPad (12” M2). I have not found a way to open the map layer to see the information and legend.??

    • @ggg4runner

      Open the map layers sections, scroll to the very bottom and hit "add map layers," find which map layer you want to see more info, select it

    Was thinking of get
    ting Gaia but noticed that they raised their prices tremendously and not sure if its worth the increase now.

    • @ggg4runner
      @ggg4runner  Рік тому

      Only you can decide if it's worth the price of admission. I use it very often so I still find the value at the current price.

    Is there a layer that highlights rivers and especially smaller streams?

    • @ggg4runner

      Try US Hydrography Map or USGS Streamflows

    Happy New Year 🎉❤. I think a cool feature for GAIA would be to let you create a couple of maps with your chosen layers as a Map 1, Map 2, Map 3 kind of thing. Then you wouldn't have to only have one map and keep choosing different layers all the time. They can implement that and thank me later 😜. I just found out on Android Auto that using Gaia you can't long press a location to get information or anything. I'm not sure if it was just the unit I was using or if it was specific to Android Auto, but if anybody has Apple CarPlay I wonder if it works there? Oh and remember in TOPO later those lines that are close together indicate steepness of the terrain 😁 So it might look like there's just a bunch of lines but they are significant.

    • @ggg4runner

      That would be pretty helpful to have layer presets. Never tried that on Carplay since it's easier to reach my phone but I'll try and let you know when I get a chance.

    • @ggg4runner
      @ggg4runner  Рік тому

      Tried on CarPlay and same thing as you. I am not able to interact with any “objects” on the map.

    • @NigelNaughton
      @NigelNaughton Рік тому

      @@ggg4runner that makes it pretty useless IMO. I'm just using a tablet with a GPS chip (sim capable) and it works great. I was doing this previously but thought I'd try something new but turns out it was worse. Thanks for the update. 👍

      @@NigelNaughton it’s likely to be more a limitation of most vehicle head units (whether factory or aftermarket) since those aren’t exactly processing power houses in most cases. I just treat it the same as regular map navigation in the city, that is, it’s just a visual reference rather than something my hand interacts with. I keep the CarPlay view in directional mode and my phone in North always pointing up mode and that seems to work well for me.

    • @NigelNaughton

      @@ggg4runner yeah, I think it's a hardware issue or a screen issue where they can't tap to zoom or two finger zoom or anything like that. You would think they would implement that, especially if you're just navigating and Google maps where you find somewhere you want to go, long, press on it like you do on your phone and then have it give you directions to there. Otherwise, if you find a place you want to go, you have to manually input the name or speak it to get navigation to it.

    the maps inside NPS visitor layer (of the National parks) are extremely pixalated when i zoom in. am i doing something wrong?

    • @ggg4runner
      @ggg4runner  10 місяців тому +1

      Not all of the NPs have additional zoom levels in the NPS Visitor map layer. For example, Joshua Tree NP does not have additional levels of detail. However, if you try zooming in on the eastern part of Grand Canyon NP you'll see a rectangle that looks different than the rest of the map and you are able to zoom in to additional details.
