    Ok so...
    1. It's been a while since I've used a carb'd bike, totally forgot about the choke hahaha.
    2. The leak was from the carb, I forgot to turn off the gas last time I used it (EFI has totally made me lazy)

      Ironically...........I'm the proud owner of a Honda CB750 NIghthawk, and since I've owned it,I've NEVER ONCE shut the "fuel" off on the petcock!!! Know why? Because the Keihin carbs. for these machines,ONLY suck fuel from the tank via engine-vacuum!!! Therefore, fuel won't enter the carbs. via the fuel-line from gravity! It has to be sucked down through engine-vacuum! Lol. (to prove it,there's a small vacuum-hose attached to the fuel-petcock on it! ) :-) Great video man!!!

      I have an old Honda MT5 which is basically a mb5 but as a duals port version. It so much fun! If you ever need info on them I can probably give you some. I also have some manuals for torque specs etc.
      The whole system is 6v but if you use a Honda nsr 50 rectifier you can make it a 12v. Stock top speed on a 4 speed is about 70 kmh but it depends on the gears. There's a 50cc cilinder from Belgium that are hard to find but will go to about 100kmh/60 mph

      I wanted one of these when I was 16. Got a Honda C50 instead and tuned it to eventually beat SS50s and FS1Es in a straight line.
      MB50s and MT50s were much more expensive but they looked amazing. Really nostalgic. Thank you for sharing

    Cool baby bike. I remember your video featuring the RFV-500 and the two-stroke V-2 Suzuki RGV-250. Now they were awesome bikes, well ahead of their time. For the 250, back when they were new, Australia had a 250 cc Production race category, which basically had a grid full of them (with a couple of the NSR-250’s). Several world champions start out racing (from dirt) to these. One being Troy Bayliss, who I raced against for two seasons. I had 2 brand new ones in my team. Luckily I kept one and although it hasn’t run for over 25 years it still looks new. I’ve had offers of over 5 times the new price I paid for it as they once were plentiful, now extremely rare. 👍😎🇦🇺

    My first bike was an MB5. It carried me to college and work for 5 years until I passed my driving test and could afford a car. It survived a Micron, Boyson reeds, reed stop mod, raised gearing, MBX80 carb and K&N filter. During lunch time at college I skimmed the head, raised the ports and bored the inlet manifold. It carried on going despite my amateur surgery. A 65cc bore kit helped most, but I sold it before fitting a CDI unit from an unrestricted bike. I learnt loads about fiddling with bikes, but Honda sure did a job on restricting this UK model....

    • @yardsausage
      @yardsausage 5 місяців тому

      you are right about that..usually the united states gets the restricted cars and motorcycles but this time we had the mb5 unrestricted where europe and other places were restricted.

      They were doing a great job in my opinion but then a company bought both Motorcyclist and Cycle World and mixed things up a bit. I had subscriptions to both since the early 80s but after that merger I couldn't stand the drivel coming out of either rag. I have actually purchased motorcycles based on testing by both before the merger. Still ride them.

    I was on my way to get a mini bike or an MB5 and my neighbor who road a worked sub-9 second '83 Kawasaki GPZ 1100 saw me and told me wait, come with me. He took me to his bud's house who pulled a tarp off a barely broken in '83 GPZ 305 with (no kidding) 305 miles on it. The guy was a big guy and he dropped it, but it just had a minor dent in the tank and it needed a rear tire and the rear taillight. I asked how much, he said he'd take $300 for it because he got the insurance for it. I didn't even flinch. I reached into my pocket and gave him the cash and it went home with me that night. I spent $85 on the whole rear fender assembly that included the lights, pulled the rear wheel off, literally rolled it to a bike shop about 12 blocks away, had a new tire installed for a hundred bucks, rolled it back home, mounted it, put the front fairing back on and after 2 days of wrenching it, I was riding it.
    But those MB5's were the bees knees back in the day.

    I bought one, brand new, from Rick Case in Cleveland, for $399.99. They had simi tractor trailer loads full of motorcycle in crates, you'd get in line, pay your money and get in another line to get the bike which was being taken out of the crate and prepped as you were doing the transactions. If there is a better way to spend $400.00, I'd like to hear it. Of all the motorcycles and scooters I've owned, this is one I should have hung onto. I miss the sound and smell of 2 strokes!

    Looks really good compared to a boring electric modern EU moped! 😎... if you haven't done mechanics yourself before, is it difficult to change the cylinder from the 50 cc MB5 comes with to an 80 cc that I can get in the purchase if I buy an MB5 I found now?
    Can the police immediately see that it is an 80 cc compared to a 50 cc cylinder?
    how does it work? thanks for the reply!
