The city lights are a lot dimmer tonight with the passing of the great Lawrence Ferlinghetti. I remember reading Coney Island and Tyrannus Nix about when I started shaving. It also led me to Ginsberg and the beats. I never quite shook off that rebellious questioning of the givens, or what passes for common sense culture. Thank you for your beautiful tribute Mr Coyote.

My most sincere condolences. As a native from S.F. , we all knew he was a wonderful person.
City Lights books was one of very the best bookstores ever!
I Finally went to City Lights while in college in 1972. It was amazing! It Seemed to have endless books. A true haven.
North Beach was our favorite Neighborhoods. We lived far across the City, in the 2nd Italian- American neighborhood: The Excelsior district. North Beach was always 'a go to place.!'
As a side note: in 2010 , newly retired from 28 years in GGP,
I participated in a skateboard art exhibition that had a charity connection to Mr Lawrence F. , in a gallery in Grant St.
As a Senior age( then 58) artist & in ancient times, a radical excellent skateboarder it was big fun!
Thank you so very much for this video.

Thank you so much for your words of wisfom and comfort, Mr. COYOTE. I am a long time fan. Love you.
I loved City Lights. I was way too young to be a "Beat," but in the early
70's, i had long hair, would dress in black, and hang out at City Lights and North Beach. I am 69 now. I loved books and i loved San Francisco.
RIP, Mr. Ferlinghetti. You left beauty and integrity in the world. You made the world a kinder, gentler place.

What a beautiful mantra, Peter, grazie infinite. Such a healing and regenerating breath, a month after I held his hands hearing him wheezing away like a little wood-boat, after having sailed together rivers and oceans and seas of words, spoken words, written words, unspoken words over the last 8 years of collaboration, eventually becoming the eyes of the aedo till the end of his last day on earth typing the very final period of LITTLE BOY, sailing somewhere else. Grazie, grazie, grazie for your VOICE given to LITTLE BOY. Lawrence loved it. We all loved it. Tomorrow is Ferlinghetti Day. And Friday, March 26, 2021, mark your calendar to look up to the skies of San Francisco. “City [Hall] Lights Tributing Lawrence Ferlinghetti.” The rotunda will be lit in the colors of Italy's flag to honor him as a Fluxista artist. I love imagining him lightly touching the hands of his father Carlo Ferlinghetti conjugating together his made-up Italian verb, FLUXARE -- Fulfill Your Own Dreams. What a better legacy could a poet dream of but leaving a new word with the new world it encompasses from generation to generation, literally making history, Toledot in Hebrew? No better time than now for all of us to recover the roots of our essential right to dream to make the world possibly a better one, living life with tenderness toward our neighbors, always looking for a “rebirth of wonder” together, OUT OF MANY, ONE / E Pluribus Unum. Today, I am sitting in the library having run into the book "writing across the landscape" and couldn't deny the genuine smile this man holds on the books cover. I picked it up and was immediately intrigued.
Before I decided to check the book out I wanted to do a bit of research on Ferlinghetti before I commit, and now I'm listening to this video here.
I've never heard of the man until today, but I'm sure he is my kindred brother.
I'm ready to read what was inside his heart. Thank you for your wonderful words about Ferlinghetti. May God bless you.

WHAT was the title of the Polanski film u acted in w Nastassja Kinski in the 80s ? Saw it then but haven t seen since. Cant recall the title, the storyline barely. Kinda strindbergeresque twisted mental control marriage tale tightroping constantly on the edge of sanity & vanity. Purty hefty project. Nice to note you are a buddhist in these last of the remaining days. In the said film you were a hedonist. Do you think both are related or just appear as opposites ? Kerouac did claim we are just dharma bums because the universe just hums - is irrelelevant in its own supreme glory to us condemned ones to seek a meaning "Down Here Below" ( - a jazz cd by Abbey Lincoln. ) ? The relationship between existentialism and buddhism is not necessarily tantamount to that of fire and water even if they both deny gods. Even Kierkegaard and Nietzsche can shake hands somewhere above the cloudbanks. Cordially suggest DO listen and watch NDE -videos available from this platform by hundreds if not 1000s. Most of them are real and N O T ACTED OUT. They prove there s everything better on the other side than here !
