  • Here's my review and demo of a Squier Classic Vibe 60s Stratocaster. I wasn't sure if the 50s version would have been a better choice? Anyway. Let me know what you think in the comments.

    David, this is a flawless instrument with his ready mature voice. Surprisingly, he has very carefully selected pickups. and good wood. There is a touch of Telecaster in the sound, which is very rare. I've heard musicians call the stratocaster a versatile instrument, but what they themselves played didn't match that. This is not a purchase - this is a PRIZE! I hear real low formant, tweng and grain. And it's a new guitar! Indeed, the tool turned out to be universal.

      It definitely sounds like a Stratocaster. I usually adjust my playing to make any guitar sound more like a Telecaster. I play quite a bit of country so that's important! :)

    I purchased the same guitar (color too) when Pro Audio started offering them cheaply in December. I too had to loosen the claw to ease up the trem. I did a fret level a week ago and cleaned up some fret ends. It’s rock solid now. Stays in tune for days. Switched the white guard for red tort. Looks and plays great.

      The strings on this have settled in and it seems to stay in tune pretty well. I'm not sure if I'll keep it or not. My Fender Strat has it beat playing wise, so we'll have to see!

    Hi, David! Been wanting to say I enjoy your videos and really look forward to them! Can't get enough surf sounds. IIRC, received the same opened box on delivery with my candy-apple red 60s strat from ProAudioStar - only when I purchased it, they had claimed it was new. It had a slight finish scratch near the neck pocket to boot. No other issues though except that tight tremolo system I still need to loosen. Sweet having a tone control on the bridge, and the lovely finish. Glad these guits remained in their containers on the way. :)

      Thanks Doug. I'd like to play a 50s version to see what the differences might be. Happy to hear you are enjoying the videos!

      @@anotherheadlessdemo I've had the same thought. That would necessitate picking up a 50s version too - for the scientific comparison, of course. Fiesta red and maple necks look great together also, or that 60th anniversary model in gold. Plus, hey, sounds like a swell idea for a video when you get the chance!

    Thanks David for mentioning the stiff tremolo. (I left the comments about it on your previous video). I plan to mess around with it this weekend.

      @@anotherheadlessdemo Well I backed the two screws holding the springs out quite a bit until a half inch of thread was showing - I don't know how long they are so didn't want to go any further in case they come flying out! Anyway, it barely made any difference. Still incredibly stiff, basically unusable. If I take it to a shop nearby and pay them I've lost any advantage to buying this used. Weird that my affinity strat is so smooth. It's a 2019 Chinese model, while the stiff classic vibe is 2021 Indonesian model. Maybe the springs got changed.

    I just bought one of these, same color, based on a friends recommendation. I'm really a bass player, but started playing around with 6 strings just for fun. You're critique is very good. Fully agree on the tuners. I especially appreciate your info regarding the whammy bar. I'll be loosening those screws soon! As a novice player, I like guitar. There were some adjustments to made on string height out of the box, but no biggie. I think you got a real bargain for $309. I paid $429. Further, I wish I could play like you! Thanks much.

    I've had my CV60 strat for almost 2 years. Pros. It sounds great. Neck profile is a dream to play. Sunburst finish looks really good. Cons, The input jack keeps coming loose (I'm going to change it) My volume pot is starting to crackle and actually cuts out some times. (another mod coming) I changed the tuning heads for vintage style locking tuners (Highly recommend it) The whammy bar rattles when using it. All in all, it is a fantastic guitar for the price. If you want an affordible strat , then the CV60 fits the bill. In my opinion its sound can hold its own with a player strat, which is double its price.

      The tuners are awful in the one I have. In general, I really like vintage tuners; but not these!

      Ironically I bought a Squier Affinity and they have a huge thick nut at the input jack and it takes a train wreck to knock it loose . Maybe all you need is a thicker bigger nut.

    Frets are narrow/tall. Love this guitar. Gloss neck doesn’t bother me. Its what I’m use to I guess.
    Has bone nut which you have to buy an America Strat and pay 3x the amount.

    • @bryancollins6796
      @bryancollins6796 8 місяців тому

      @bruceman9581 For the CV 60s Tele, I installed a Fender 6 saddle ashtray bridge and Fender Deluxe Drive pickups. The jack was changed to a Switchcraft made one for durability (the factory one gets loose quick, and the threads strip easy). I left the pots and blade switch as is.

    Major turn-off for me in classic vibe models is the thick, glossy, and sticky neck finish. Much prefer the thin satin finish on affinity and even bullet/sonic necks, which actually feels similar to ibanez prestige models.

    Nice Strat. There's no way I'd buy an open box guitar from Pro Audio. Buyers pay for return shipping and a restock fee. I never bought an open box guitar because I take it as it's a return that someone doesn't know how to do the minor work or doesn't want to pay a guitar tech to make it right.

    • @anotherheadlessdemo
      @anotherheadlessdemo  Рік тому

      I would consider buying one again from Pro Audio, just so I could try a given guitar and then re-sell it. With any of my Squiers, the work needed right out of the box was pretty minor, just annoying!
