  • This past weekend I had some quality over quantity viewing of wildlife at the ARNWR. I didn't see many animals, but several of the bears and the otter I saw approached where I had set up. The red wolf sightings did not share in this fortune, but I count any view of a red wolf as a quality experience, given their rarity. All sightings were within an hour of sunrise, so recommend you go to breakfast after doing some viewing, if you plan to go.

Thank you for the kind words, I am glad you enjoyed it! One of my favorite places to go when I'm down in the Outer Banks.

Thanks @LAF filmfest! There are very large crop fields that the bears fatten up on.

Amazing. You got really good closeups of wildlife, Shore Fisherman. 👍🏻 Otter swimming happily. That bear looks so puffy and huggable like a stuffed toy. 🤣 Nice video buddy❗️

Thanks for the kind words! Thankfully it is relatively easy to get decent shots near the safety of one's own car.

Nice video. At first I thought it was a gator or a large snake in the water

Despite the name, I haven't captured an alligator yet on film. Thanks for watching!

Fortunately, you can get a pretty good view of them from in/near your car. Thanks for watching!

I guess the bears don’t fear gators ?

The smaller ones do seem to jump pretty quickly through the ditches, but the big bears do not seem concerned. Thank you for stopping by!

How hard is it to find a red wolf? Any tips? I don’t live too far from ARNWR and was planning on going down and photographing the red wolves and I know wolves are elusive and the red wolf is particularly rare, thanks!😊

@arduous1914 - I did manage to see a red wolf this past weekend, but he was a bit far for my pedestrian camera, so the video I am releasing tonight is only bears. I spotted him on Link Rd (now gated) off of Long Curve Rd. I spoke to several other individuals who had seen wolves in that same area and another couple who saw one in a field just a little ways past the maintenance facility. I've also found the morning (the closer to daylight the better) to be better than the evening, but that is not an absolute. Best of luck if you go!

@@theshorefisherman1 perfect thanks!!! I’ll definitely be using this advice and watching ur next vid, I was planning on waking up very early to go down with my friend in a few weeks. What kind of camera do u use?

Sorry for my slow response. I have a little Sony camcorder that is perfect for my fishing videos and works well on the bears when they get close. Most of the dedicated wolf watchers have cameras with enormous zoom lenses. I have been lucky enough to get some wolf footage that I felt comfortable posting over the years, but a big lense is the way to go if you can afford it. Let me know how you do, if you don’t mind and best of luck either way!
