Thank you for the location tips. I was there today, but only saw a Barred Owl and a couple of otters. I'll be back in spring or next Nov. to try again.
I've been to the alligator river refuge many times. I've seen as many as thirty bears in an outing and none on other occasions. That's just how it goes. Just driving through there, I think to myself, this is probably one of the wildest places in North America. Very flat terrain with extremely dense, almost impenetrable forests. Lot's of briers and undergrowth. You'd almost be crazy to walk through the forest there. There are rattlesnakes everywhere. And the black bears there tend to be enormous. The largest black bear ever recorded----over 880 lbs was taken in an adjacent county.

The largest black bear is from New Jersey. Just last week they documented a 900 pound male.
@@Felis-Concolor That's a beast!
I was there last year. After a long day I finally saw a bear but down the road near some homes. I’m going back in two weeks in July
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It's big help.
Do you think a sedan can navigate these roads safely or would an SUV be required?
yes, the roads are well maintained
Cars do fine on the roads there
can I expect to se bears in the wintertime or do they hibernate? I plan to visit tomorrow (Dec 28).
You should be able to see them
