While there is a possibility uneven airflow affects individual chip temps, it's unlikely to cause significant deltas since the heatsink is a monoblock. What is more likely is the pressure isn't even across the heatsink. That could be simply due to a screw not being tightened enough, or even from a screw being overtightened - since these boards are so large, they can easily flex and pull chips away from the heatsink if you overtighten one or more screw(s). Btw, i think you could get away w/ using 1/3 of that paste :)
HaHa when I was applying it, I started to realize I was going through more than other paste jobs I've done lol. And yeah, I see what you are saying about the heat sink and uneven screws. Definitely seemed like that 3rd board had issues with the outer edges. Maybe it was just slightly warped
@@GreaterGoodMining Yeah, i just looked again, and when you first pulled off the heatsink, most of the paste came off on the sink for the first couple chips (furthest away from the connector), especially when compared to the others ones. Definitely looks like a pressure problem.
That's a good idea. Maybe I'll do an update video down the line. To update you right now. It's holding up well. My chip temps are still where they were when I did the video initially. So far so good 👍
Thanks for watching! I ended up leaving the plastic alone on this repaste. Everything was lined up properly on mine, so none of my chips were covered by it. I assume it is there to help prevent anything from shorting out. It's weird because several of my hashboards from other Iceriver ASIC's that ive repasted didn't come with the plastic sheet
@@GreaterGoodMining Got it, opening it tomorrow. Hoping it's already lined up, if not I'll most likely remove it and try to align it the best I can. Appreciate the videos man, really helping out the community !
@MisterCaloy If it's misaligned from the factory I would just take it off and leave it off. Once you peel it off, the adhesive will likely be ruined, and it'll just happen again
Howdy, just got my IR KS3M are there any mods that you recommend? I have the fruition setup on it. Looking for overclocking or maybe changing a board to get it to perform more like a KS3. Anything would be a great help. Tyvm, Trev😎
You won't be able to overclock this or change boards to get performance anywhere near a KS3 on these. I don't recommend overclocking them. I'd actually recommend just repasting it and keeping it running strong 💪
I just repasted my KS3M with mx 6 paste and I saw almost no change in temps. I have 1 chip,, chip number 2, running at 89 and a lot of my chips are in teh 87 so im not sure what I did wrong but re pasting didnt help much
Ambient temps also play a role. Some chips definitely will run hotter than others based on the design of the box itself and the fans. Also Sometimes it's hard to get even torque on the screws when remounting the heat sink
@GreaterGoodMining i appreciate it. My room runs at about 80 farinheit and I have the fruition design kit on it so I figured I'd see better temperatures. The chip 2 on board one is sitting around 90 to 91 now after running it for several hours and I put a good amount of paste on each chip so I'm not sure the issue
@@justsavvysnipes More isn't always beter when repasting. A small blob like a peasize or so is usually good enough. If you lay it on too thick the conductivity won't be there to transfer the heat from the chip to the heatsink. Another thing you could try is to move the hashboards around. If you have a problem hashboard with chips that get hotter you could try to move it to a different slot to see if the air hits it differently. Always at your own risk of course
my OG KS1 that has a weird old control boards and different hashboards from everyone else has all the indicator lights on no matter what I do. It is still hashing away happily though. Hello, what is the name of the software for reading the miner? Have a KS3M, 1 hashboard doesn’t work. It is displayed, stays cold and does not hash. Today, after a restart in the funeral, it suddenly worked for 20 minutes. The temperature was 10 degrees higher than the other 2 boards. Then it stopped mining again. What can it be? Plug? Cold solder joint. Thanks and greetings Jerry
@@GreaterGoodMining I installed the latest firmware from Iceriver a week ago. What software do you use to read out the individual temperatures from the chips, please? Greeting
From what I've been told chip 1 and chip 56 are both toward the center of the board and closest to where the ribbon cable plugs in. I'm not sure which order the boards are in. Your best bet is to pull one board at a time to find out
So i guess i shouldn't get this but i did got this ks3m but i got 2 and after changing thermal paste and adding infinity fan still some ship tem are about 86 to 89 what you think i should do immersion cooling?
What are your ambient temps? What do you have your AC infinity fans set to? Did you tighten the screws down evenly? Are the chips that were causing you problems before the repaste the same ones that are causing you problems now?
@GreaterGoodMining tem is about 78 to 80 degrees and i have the 10 inch ac infinite fan and used a specific tool to tight all the screws same pressure like i took them off and i will say after repaste are better bc from power on was like 109 and they are not the same ships sometimes ones other time other it varies do you know if i could take the back part out repaste that or not?
@jafuentes89 no the back fins are glued on with thermal glue. Nothing to repaste there. Your ambient temps aren't too bad. Are your ac infinity fans maxed out? You might want to turn them up if you have wiggle room there. My ambient temps are around the same as yours. I exhaust all the heat outside of the building. I have my ac infinity fans set to 8 right now
@GreaterGoodMining yes i have same settings at 8 speed but I'm concern when summer comes i have ks3 at 7 speed and the tem of this one is 75 to 78 and i didn't touch thermal paste not sure why this one is different and i could speed up to 100% but summer it will not help that's why I'm trying to find other solutions immersion Cooling for the 2 ks3m for summer not sure yet it costs a bit of money for 2 of them
@jafuentes89 are you exhausting the heat to the outside? Do you have a way to bring in fresh air? I have an AC infinity T16 fan that brings cooler air into my garage, and another T16 fan that helps exhaust any hot air out.
Are you having problems with your chip temperatures on your Iceriver KS3M?
My KS3Ls are running fairly good temps, but the KS3Ms def needed repasting
