    Okay, I'm just gonna say it, "Someone really needs to reach out to Ms. Debbie Allen about Ms. Alice Barker. I have no doubt Ms. Allen will want to turn Alice's story into a theatrical motion picture. With all the horrors going on in our world today, we could use a little 'Alice' magic to bring the joy back into our lives. Applause! Applause! Applause, Alice Barker.

    • @tom-jl8qo

      I second that Matt, I just hope it would stay pure and true to the music like she was.if it was done by someone like (for example) Tyler Perry and NOT by Spike lee..it would need to keep all the anger and hate out of it. I know it was nasty then, but if it was focused on her and her dancing career, it could be such a great movie.but if her & her legacy was a secondary to the problems of then & now, it would take from (what appears to be) her character and passion for the musical art an her dancing.She was an exceptional Lady, I hope they do a movie about her.

    I love how this was shown to prove how valuable everyone's life is in a work of art. Most people never would look at a background dancer, and the documentary about Alice Barker is worth so much to me. She went through little recognition because people would never bother to spell her name correctly, and she would dance for free because it was something she loved to do. I have never met anyone that was happy just being a background dancer, and I think people have a lot to learn from Alice Barker.

    • @JaesadaSrisuk
      @JaesadaSrisuk 8 років тому +85

      There was a fantastic documentary a couple years ago called "10 Feet From Stardom" about backup singers and how under appreciated their art is. Thousands of talented women and men work singing in the background, sometimes for people who are significantly less talented yet more successful than they are.

    In a way it is sad that so many actors, dancers, and extras have been in so many movies but they are never recognized. They are competent people who are good at what they do but they never have the opportunity to stand out in a lead role. Yet they show up again and again and again mainly because they love what they do and not because they are well paid.
    For Alice Barker, this is recognition well deserved. I am sure there are probably many more films in which she appeared and performed well in the role she was given. May she received all the accolades she has earned.

      Its what Shakespeare wrote in his monologue "All the world's a stage" in his play "As You Like It" from about 1599 about the different 'scenes' humans encounter during their journey through life. Really worth reading or hearing here on UA-cam.
      At first the infant,
      Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms.
      ....
      Last scene of all,
      That ends this strange eventful history,
      Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
      Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.

He wrote the song after a meeting in a jail cell with someone who borrowed the Mr. Bojangles name to conceal his identity from the police. The song is quite famous so that is why Mr . Bojangles may sound familiar to you if you are younger.

      Sorry this comment is ridiculously late, but I agree with the first part. People think things were 100% better back then, but they seem to forget that technology, the way we socialized, and other things for the most part were WAY less advanced. Plus, there were events such as The Great Depression and the World Wars which didn't benefit anyone. It's totally fine to be fascinated by those times, but it's pretty ignorant to act like nothing bad happened. You make a great point.
