The fact that the Air 2S is being closely likened to the Mavic 2 Pro than the Air 2 says a lot about the improvements they did on this drone! It's that good an upgrade
In Fall of 2022 is the Air 2 still worth the buy? I’m going to upgrade from my DJI Spark. They just dropped the price of the Air 2 to $550 which is significantly below the price of the Air 2s. What do you think? Or should I wait for the air 3 because the Air 2 is 2 years old now.
This is a slap in the face to the EVO II drone. I have been on the fence about buying my 1st drone but this 2S has the camera I want at a lot less than the EVO II. The batteries for this drone are 50% less than the EVO II. This is perfectly positioned price wise for me and I can still afford an iPad mini!!! win!

This guy is a paid influencer. There is not enough difference other than the 1” sensor, which basically gives you better “off the card” or ready for social media posts. Plus, with a fixed aperture, DJI intentionally crippled the full functionality of the 1” sensor. If you are already a MA2 owner, wait for the A3. If it’s your first drone, switching from a different manufacturer, or upgrading from the Mini 1 or 2, it makes perfect sense. Personally, I’m waiting for the M3P.
Fully agree with all your comments.. my biggest annoyance as a Air2 owner is they upgraded too early i feel.. I bought an Air2 in June20, it came out only a few months earlier? A little bit annoying that it’s now out of date after a year!! Thanks DJI, not happy as everyone goes for the newest model, and certainly don’t expect a facelift in a year of a new drone ?? 👎 My thoughts, but your video is spot on!
such a modest, incremental, insignificant and cosmetic changes. with each generation of drone release, obviously as you except, there are some changes, but the huge drop in sales of these drones, just comes to prove how tiny, slow and incremental those changes are. Unfortunately, as I believe the technology is there, it just that, for commercial reasons, DJI (and others) want to squeeze a few more generations of drone "upgrades" purchase from us...and obviously the public is not stupid, so they just stick with the drone they already have, and wait 4-5 generations. before the combined upgrade is significant enough to commit to invest.
I can only fly about a mile away in my neighborhood with my Mavic Air 2, but with clear line of site I've flown maybe two miles or so away with good transmission. But you said Ocusync 3 changed the way you fly...over the Air 2/Ocusync 2? I did have a similar experience comparing my Mavic Air 2 over my older Mavic Mini, but just how far away are you flying I wonder.... I would definitely pay the extra money for the 2s if buying new, no question. But if I had a Mavic Air 2 already and $2K I might instead choose a Skydio 2 or something a little different. I'd really like the drones be a lot smaller and quieter, but with the same features. And I'd like to see the Autonomous Flight Apps mature: Dronelink (supports Mavic Air 2) Maven (supports Mavic Air 2) Litchi (more popular, but doesn't support Mavic Air 2) Thanks for another great video Billy Kyle.
Also take into consideration that a 1 inch sensor is better in low light conditions and therefor your video and images will have a lot less grain in them which to me is a game changer.
Hey Billy Great video! Do you think the Air 2 or the Air 2S is to complex for someone that has never flown a drone? Should I be looking at the Mini 2 instead? Thanks!
Complex? They use the same controller and have sensors all around. They are easier than the mini 2. I love my mini 2 but i have to be more careful than when I fly my P4 Pro+
The air 2 looks a bit like a mobile camera especially in low light but I know it isn't but if it was it would have to be a good one due to its crushed blacks in Windows of buildings and lack of detail and grain in dark areas (which is the sensor) I've bought the air 2s but if you don't want to spend the extra money then go for the air 2, but if you want to do more things low light I would recommend the air 2s.
Think your saying the Air2s camera is better but you won’t notice the difference on UA-cam due to the compression? I’ll stick with my Air2 until DJI release the classified drones in a year or so.
Just sent my air 2 into a pond and the gimbal no longer works... if I buy a 2s without any accessories I should be able to use my old controller right?
Absolutely love your videos you make so much more sense than so many other drone youtubers trust me everyone this is the man to go to if you want to know anything about drones 😁✌ peace
The only thing stopping me from buying the air 2S is the fact that it is no longer compatible with the goggles V2 when the Drone first came out it said it was getting an update to make them compatible now that has changed when it's compatible with the goggles is when I will buy it
Very good review, excellent, one question, the 2s, the drone have ocusync 3.0, with 4 antennas, but the controller is ocusync 2.0, how is the transmission better if both are not 3.0? Thanks.
Alright, so I have a question, I have a mavic mini, and I would like to upgrade but I have a small budget, right now mavic air 2 is on sale and you can get the fly more combo for $789 and the air 2s for $1299. Is the 2s significantly better than air 2? Also mini 3 is coming out soon and it has sensors and a pretty good camera so I am really lost
I have been looking for a replacement for my two P4's for some time. I was very disappointed with the P4 Pro. The videos were not as sharp, the colors washed out, the cameras were bigger and heavier and tended to wobble when the drone was going sideways, ruining my videos, and they had mechanical issues like compasses that would not stay calibrated, the things would slowly rotate in a circle and not stay pointing at what I was shooting, and antennas that would cut out every few seconds even when the drone was sitting right in front of me. I tried both version 1 and 2 of the P4 Pro and even the Advance model. Sold them all at a loss and kept the P4's. I tried the original Mini but that's practically a toy in comparison. It has a slew of issues. The controller is terrible. The sticks are stiff and hard to manipulate. Trying to make smooth turns while making other adjustments is like trying to draw a circle with an Etch-a-Sketch. Impossible. The range is also terrible. Fly over a tree and you immediately lose signal. There is no fan inside the drone and there is poor air circulation, so if you have your drone sitting on the ground waiting for an event to start it will overheat and display a multitude of warnings or just shut down. The compass never stays calibrated. Every time you move to another spot you have to do the calibration dance. I hear the Mini 2 fixes the range issue and has a better controller, but I'm looking for something better. I uploaded to UA-cam so even in 4k it's likely the camera quality improvement between the 2 and 2s won't make much difference. The problem I have with my P4 and mini are neither shoots 4k in 30fps. The mini doesn't even shoot 4k. So you get choppy video at 24fps on the P4. The mini 2 at least supports 4k 30fps I believe. The ONE thing that appeals to me to upgrade to the 2S is the greater range. I do a lot of flying out in the open, scenic videos. Range is VERY important to me. If the controller is smooth and the range is good and the video is at least 4k 30fps that's what I'm interested in.
thanks for this video it was very informative, i am researching the difference between the Mavic air 2 and the 2S. i see only the Air 2S is available from DJI as the Mavic air has been discontinued. however i have seen both on Ebay listed for sale. what is your opinion of buying a drone off ebay.
Thanks very much for your presentation! I upgraded from the Air 2 to the Air 2S and I am wondering if you use your smart controller vs. the stock controller? I initially had difficulty linking the Air 2S with my SC but now it seems to work well. I haven't tested the range yet except for about 3000 feet which went well but there were no obstructions between me and the drone. Thanks Billy and I would appreciate your take on using the SC vs. the stock controller.
I noticed that you left out the mastershots feature that the Air 2S offers and the Air 2 does not. Was there a reason for that? I have both the Air 2 and Air 2S. I want to primarily use the Air 2 for Scenic shots and the Air 2S for Commercial use. As of right now though, I find myself using the Air 2S more and more these days than the Air 2. Now I am resigned to using the Air 2 as a back up option if something happens to the Air 2S and I have downtime of being without a drone. I don't have the financials resources right now to upgrade to the Mavic 3. If that becomes an option, I will definitely make plans on working with the Mavic 3 and Air 2S and upgrade my controller to the RC Pro to swap back and forth between both drones. I noticed that according to DJI's website that the Mavic Air 2 is not compatible with the new RC Pro controller and the Mavic Air 2S is.
Looking to upgrade from the first mini to either the Air 2 or 2S. Currently at Best Buy the fly more bundle for the 2 is $790 and $1300 for the 2S… other than a few extra gimmicks is it worth the price difference to go with the 2S? Thanks
Hey Great REview Bud. IS the Mavic Air2 Smart Controller compatible with Air2S ? Do we have to do any additional config/set up to make them compatible ?
Billy. Dale from Toronto, Ontario in Canada. Have you had any luck with the problem of the Autel Evo 2 drifting left, bobbing up and down and any other issues? Any other problems that have been fixed with firmware? I am looking forward to buying the Autel Evo 2 Smart Controller. I am in need of a reliable shooter that makes a great package with their new Smart Controller that is supposed to be out sometime this month in May 2021.
Is there a way to take a screen shot in video zoom mode since there is no zoom option in picture mode? Guess you can screen shot from your iPhone itself.?
I just sold a mint condition Mavic 2 pro, took a bit of a hit , I'm thinking about the Air2s and want to know your opinion on this and the Autel Evo 2 pro head to head , I am liking the camera interchangeable thing it opens up many possibilities , although the chip thing with Autel bothers me a little at this point (7/9/21) and if the few limitations they put on the air 2s to leave room for the mavic 3 is very relevant or back to ,do you think it's a better drone for the price and also just flat out disregarding the price tag, I live near 2 airports not crazy about the geo fencing either, especially now because you have to go through h fAA as well.
I do not know if anyone asked or not yet, but how much less battery life did any of you experienced with the air 2s against the air 2? I recently purchased a second hand air 2 in very good condition, but I am interested in the air 2s as well. Because the weather we currently have in UK, I did not have a lot time I can use the air 2 a lot so far.
I'm trying to figure out why the fly me combo is $300 difference but the spread on the drone price is only $200. What in the extra $100 getting you or did they make a mistake and the Air 2s fly more combo should be $1199.
so if it's my first professional drone, in terms of value for money and long run satisfaction, should I spend 790$ on the ma2 combo or 1300$ for the ma2S combo? there is a big price difference but not so much in other fields
Question, would you choose the Mavic Air 2 + Smart Controller or Air 2S with the Standard controller. Trying to keep the total cost under the $1,500.00
I enjoyed the video, very informative. I'm about to purchase my very first drone, never even flown one. I think the extra $200 is a no Brainer. I want to make sure my first purchase will give my little reason to have to purchase something better for a couple of yrs at least. My main purpose is for scouting hunting areas, mostly plains, and tracking deer and coyote movement habits. Am I on the right track in my thinking? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Will the DJI Smart Controller work with the A2S? I crashed my Air II. I am going to replace with the Air 2S if the controller is compatible... great video (as always).
Good video brother. Been playing with my mini 2 for awhile now. Might have to get a 2s now. Like that obstacle avoidance and better camera. That is the same transmission system as the mini 2?
Love my MA2, but super jonzed that this new one came out with better options, especially the 1" camera! Oh well, been enjoying the Air 2 for a year, great tool nonetheless.
Hey Billy DJi Mavic two pro I had an update lately for battery is not charged when was too long do you think it was more into that do you think DJI degraded The Drone quality they do that sometimes did you have the update did you see any difference please let us know I will greatly appreciate it
Couple of things better on the mavic air 2 Not all the specs of the Air 2S camera have been improved compared to its predecessor. The older Mavic Air 2 has better slow-motion capabilities at FULL HD resolution (1080p@240fps vs 1080p@120fps). - 3 minutes better flight time. - 48 megapixel still shots Air 2S doesn’t support 8K hyperlapse and Focus Track, but Air 2 supports 8K hyperlapse and Focus Track!Unlike Air 2s 20MP camera, the Mavic Air 2 48MP camera makes 8K Hyperlapse footage possible. In hyper-lapse mode, the quad takes a series of photos using the full 48MP sensor and automatically merges them together to produce the final 8K video. Madi And let's not forget something someone mentioned the air 2 has HDR that is second to none that is so good that when professional photographers have used it have said If you use it right you don't have to change anything in post-production.. or you could get away with not changing any color in post-production!! Simply amazing!!!
@@brokensword2621 yeah I think I wrote that somewhere else. And the HDR on the air 2 is really second to none when everyone tested it. It really is amazing some people say it's so good if you use it right you don't even have to do anything in post-production. Again just like Captain Drone said The Air 2S is a cash grab DJI trying to throw some stuff out there giving you a little bit trying to grab some money. All these guys get geeked up about it throwing their money at DJI as usual. Trying to justify losing all of their money lol. And then DJI will do it again next year and again and again in the keep dumping their money for no reason. NOT REALIZING IT REALLY DOESN'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE IN THE REAL WORLD.. IN OTHER WORDS THEY DON'T SEE THE FORCE FOR THE TREES THEY DON'T SEE WHAT MATTERS AND WHAT DOESN'T. ESPECIALLY FOR THE MONEY ;) But it's their money if they want to lose it and waste it oh well good for them 🤣
@@mariellerebours8050 Stick with the regular The regular air 2. 2S is just not worth it especially with the way social media compresses everything. Doesn't really matter in the real world and in tests no one could tell the difference and guess which was which.. Save your money get the Air 2 regular
we have to remember that this is DJI .. they make the 2 products, never had any signal strength problems with my mavic air 2, the quality is great, HDR video and photo is awesome. if you dont have the mavic air 2 and want to buy a drone then yes, go for the mavic air 2s. DJI knows that....we mavic air 2 owners are really wating for the mavic 3 pro.
"...is it really worth the upgrade?...I can't give you the answer". WHAAAT?? Then this.."to me the camera and transmission system make it worth it 10X over". Come'on man! This is why we watch your video's Billy!!! So you do recommend it!!
The issue I have is that 3rd party software cannot work with this drone until DJI release the SDK kit which will allow 3rd party developers to increase the functionality of this drone. As an example DJI have only just released the SDK for the Mini2 and the Air 2s which is one year later! If dJI released the SDK earlier the issues could be addressed by 3rd party software developers, or at least as a combined effort between both parties.
@@chuckself5245 My understanding is that it does work with the smart controller. There is an update that includes the new drone. The question is how well the smart controller works with the Air 2S. It depends on who’s opinion you get.
@@cnyphotovideo once I flew with the SC I was hooked. I need to replace my Air 2. If they are compatible I’m in for the 2S... if not, ima gonna just get another Air II.
The minimum operational temperature of the 2s is 41 degrees F....the 2....14 degrees F. This is huge. I'm on my 2nd 2s and this one will be going back due to RTH not working after signal loss and again at the home point (hovers in place). Motor overheat error, check propellers and fly with caution combination warning happens with each battery that came with the Fly More kit. Changing the props. did not resolve this...firmware up to date. The 2 has not had these issues.
Great job Billy! Your video is as good as any as I've seen on YT :) There is a lot of confusion about the 48 Mp sensor. I compared it to my Nikon D850 (46 Mp) and the luminance resolution is similar. Of course you have the feed the 1/2 sensor a lot of light to make similar photos. So I agree with you on the selection of the A2s over the A2 in every category. Again, good job!
I just ordered the Air2s fly more ..I chose it over the autel evo lite plus and mavic 3 because I felt the autel has to many bugs right now and the mavic 3 is just to expensive especially for the fly more package..I feel if the air2s had a 40 minute battery it would be the top drone on the market…anyway I can’t wait for it to show up
If the DJI doesn't allow it to fly as long as Autel, I don't find it so interesting that they added a better camera, a better signal, but I don't know for sure and 2 sensors more, so interesting an drone. AIR 2 will last longer to fly and I'm happy with it for the long flight. DJI should change this and get closer to Autel II PRO
Coming from the air 1 and now owning the air2, personally i did not think the refresh was worth it for me as i'm still just having a lot of fun with the air 2. Was tempted for the mini 3 pro but seeing how half the people are having range issues i will skip that little guy and wait for the air 3 or mini 4 pro. Or mavic 4 pro lol. Basically stick with what you got quit playing your not a real photographer blah blah blah so just go out there and just enjoy with what ya got. Learn to fly, learn to take great shots or video clips, learn to edit them and when the time comes after honing your skill then get something a bit higher quality.

but maybe its me.. put the footage up on a 4K screen like an OLED TV and see this clip above.. definitely many shots that I prefer the Air2 at the skyscraper and the footage at the beach I prefer the Air2s..
though its the panorama stitching & bracketing where I have seen the Air2 really excel and deliver pictures that knock the normal 12mp or 48mp smart mode out of the water.. sadly can't link on YT as it is not politically correct..
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VERY DETAIL COMPARISON
My thoughts, but your video is spot on!
such a modest, incremental, insignificant and cosmetic changes. with each generation of drone release, obviously as you except, there are some changes, but the huge drop in sales of these drones, just comes to prove how tiny, slow and incremental those changes are.
Amazing review!! Thank you, just purchased the Air 2S Fly More Combo thanks to your video in particular!
And I'd like to see the Autonomous Flight Apps mature:
Dronelink (supports Mavic Air 2)
Maven (supports Mavic Air 2)
Litchi (more popular, but doesn't support Mavic Air 2)
Thanks for another great video Billy Kyle.
This video really made it easy to make a confident choice. I choose the air2. I went from phantom 3 standard to this drone. Major difference
Thanks for the helpful and informative video. Keep up the great work.
Hi Billy. Love from the Philippines. Can you compare night shots?
Just sent my air 2 into a pond and the gimbal no longer works... if I buy a 2s without any accessories I should be able to use my old controller right?
How'd it end up in the pond?
Yea
I think having both is the jam.
Absolutely love your videos you make so much more sense than so many other drone youtubers trust me everyone this is the man to go to if you want to know anything about drones 😁✌ peace
Billy you are the best reviewer.
Thanks.
The remote is just a reciever while the drone is the transmitter idk how they do it but it's how it works
Just picked mine up today very happy to have it
Great video Billy boy! Keep em coming!
Nice scam you got going on
thank you for the sample footage you're a legend.
Great description , could you add a night filming comparison ?
Did you fly over the charred remains of playland? It was only about 1000ft to the north west of the drone at 9:42
i love your comparison shots!
Informative video as usual Billy, thanks!
Very useful and well structured video!
Is there a mount for my cell phone to watch the live video? I am looking at the fly more pack.
I bought my Air 2 on day 1 last year. Really tempted to upgrade to the A2S. I do a lot of low light shots that come out with a lot of noise
So upgrading from a Spark/phone i'm assuming the Air 2s would be the better upgrade? I wan to shoot pictures and videos of family when we take trips.
Hey Billy I live close to center city is there time to meet up and show me more about my 2s and editing on Final Cut Pro?
Thanks for the review... My Air2S is on the way... but those 8K hyperlapse looks juicy...
Your video's are the best. Seriously
I'm trying to figure out why the fly me combo is $300 difference but the spread on the drone price is only $200. What in the extra $100 getting you or did they make a mistake and the Air 2s fly more combo should be $1199.
I noticed that also, Same accessories too…
I love how the MA2 render colors compare to A2S.. Well atleast for me..
Excellent comparison Billy!
Well done on the film Does anyone know when the release date of the mavic air 3s skimmer will be and an estimate of how much it will cost
so if it's my first professional drone, in terms of value for money and long run satisfaction, should I spend 790$ on the ma2 combo or 1300$ for the ma2S combo? there is a big price difference but not so much in other fields
Hey Billy! Do you have any Final Cut Pro Luts for grading D-Cinalike on the Mavic Air 2 I could download?
Man , that was so detailed show 👌🏻
Do you compress videos and photos for Instagram? I have been suggested the Handbrake software
Question, would you choose the Mavic Air 2 + Smart Controller or Air 2S with the Standard controller. Trying to keep the total cost under the $1,500.00
Air 2 has HDR video, A2S - not. Because of the different sensor types!
Thanks for making this simple for us simple minded folk.
I have a mavic air 2, is the upgrade worth? Probably not, especially with the mavic 3 on the horizon
Hey Billy DJi Mavic two pro I had an update lately for battery is not charged when was too long do you think it was more into that do you think DJI degraded The Drone quality they do that sometimes did you have the update did you see any difference please let us know I will greatly appreciate it
You should be proud of yourself. You are a good presenter. You can do this entire video in one take - no cuts I can tell or very few.
Simp
Incredible review!!!! Thank you so much!!
Couple of things better on the mavic air 2
Not all the specs of the Air 2S camera have been improved compared to its predecessor. The older Mavic Air 2 has better slow-motion capabilities at FULL HD resolution (1080p@240fps vs 1080p@120fps).
- 3 minutes better flight time.
- 48 megapixel still shots
Air 2S doesn’t support 8K hyperlapse and Focus Track, but Air 2 supports 8K hyperlapse and Focus Track!Unlike Air 2s 20MP camera, the Mavic Air 2 48MP camera makes 8K Hyperlapse footage possible. In hyper-lapse mode, the quad takes a series of photos using the full 48MP sensor and automatically merges them together to produce the final 8K video.
Madi
And let's not forget something someone mentioned the air 2 has HDR that is second to none that is so good that when professional photographers have used it have said If you use it right you don't have to change anything in post-production.. or you could get away with not changing any color in post-production!! Simply amazing!!!
you forgot about air2 has hdr but air2s hasn't :)
ESPECIALLY FOR THE MONEY ;)
But it's their money if they want to lose it and waste it oh well good for them 🤣
@@muzikmon2267 so which would u recommend after all the gimmicks and bells and whistles. I’m trying to decide on air 2s vs air 2
@@mariellerebours8050 Stick with the regular The regular air 2.
2S is just not worth it especially with the way social media compresses everything.
Doesn't really matter in the real world and in tests no one could tell the difference and guess which was which..
Save your money get the Air 2 regular
@@muzikmon2267 appreciate u
I want to get the 2S to replace my IMU sick Mav Air 1: Should I get the 2S.... All the bad reports I'm hearing online are turning me off.
we have to remember that this is DJI .. they make the 2 products, never had any signal strength problems with my mavic air 2, the quality is great, HDR video and photo is awesome. if you dont have the mavic air 2 and want to buy a drone then yes, go for the mavic air 2s. DJI knows that....we mavic air 2 owners are really wating for the mavic 3 pro.
It was a nice comparison. Thanks
Thank you man you really help me to decide what drone i will buy :) good job please record more videos full support :)
Philly looks so nice from above
Billy, how is the AIR 2S working with the Smart Controller? That’s my dealbreaker or dealmaker.
Works like a normal occu sync 2.0 not as great as 03
@@Stiandragland Thanks. That’s good to know.
Hey bro. Does the new A2S work with the smart controller? If not, it surely will soon, yes?
Can the Air 2S be powered with the more “powerful” Air2 battery ? (3850 vs 3500 mah)
Do the nd filters on the air 2 work on the air 2s?
Not to my knowledge as the Air 2s has a bigger camera.
Do you recommend buying a Mavic Air 2 from a used place like ebay? Just have to make sure it can be returned if it is DOA.
Late reply; Check the DJI website in their refurbished section as they fix the and guarantee the item.
@@flywithmason Ok, thanks!
Mavic Air2 is qualified for an additional 10% students discount now, this makes it a great value for money for new buyers.
