  • I tried a few other internet methods and found my own method to work the best. At least for my bike's situation.

    Did you really need to make a 13 minute video just to spray a few drops

    Thanks for the tip, but the video could be 90 seconds and you'd get the point across and a thumbs up.

    On my scooter when I had the same problem I unscrewed the outer ring (by hand only) and was able to access the outer locking rings on the tumbler and lubricated accordingly with dry lube like you have done resulting in like new operation. I also blew out some significant amounts fine dust down the key hole.

    White grease for boats is the best solution, it lubricates well, protects the mechanical moving parts of the lock, lasts for years and cannot be washed off by water. White grease in spray is also an excellent solution as a new lubrication solution.

    My key goes in fine but it won’t turn it off almost like it’s the wrong key but it’s not

    super easy to fix with all bikes. Just spray some brake cleaner or pour a little bit of alcohol in the key hole. then proceed to repeatedly smash that key in there for a good minute to get it clean. then use either silicone lube or just some chain lube and proceed to smash that key in there again. i promise it will work every time and this method works with all key locks even car doors, houses, pad locks etc.. graphite only works if the key is damaged and needs to be replaced or if the pins in the lock are worn out. and really they don't wear out unless you or previous owner is the most aggressive unlocker in the world.

    I used that same graphite on my Ninja 1000 for the same problem and it just gunked it up real bad. Took it to the shop and they used Bel Ray lubricating fluid but a cheaper option is the Supertech version of WD40. Problem solved.

    You’re scratching your bike with the other key don’t put another key connected to your bike key

    Can chain cleaner be used?

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  3 роки тому +1

      it's best to use dry lube, you can try light silicon lube, because most chain cleaner are thicker formula and may stay inside and attract more grease making the keyhole more sticky in the long run

    I just got a Honda CTX700D today and I bent the first key trying to unlock the wheel, and now the second key is already starting to look pretty sad just by my trying to start the damn thing. It is hard to take out and put in as well. Very frustrated.

    Scrape off the graphite from a pencil and pour the powder in the ignition key but just a little bit. You’re welcome!!!

    Use WD specialist penetrating fast acting ez reach nozzle on the can and the WD will get that graphite out and it protects it from freezing up

    With big bikes you press the key downwards in the keyhole to turn it on. It's some safety or smth. Again, down from they keyhole, not pressing it into the keyhole.

    How about contact cleaner?

    • @TheGizmoGarage
      @TheGizmoGarage  21 день тому

      It won’t lubricate and will dry out the pins. You can use it first then try some WD40

    Just use silicone spray.

      Same thing with my Honda CBR !
      You are not alone.
      I think the ignitions in our bikes can't handle the vibrations caused by high rpms, and they wear out really fast.
      My bike stranded me last week.
      It is in the shop now.
      (Nothing) would unstick that lock !
      I tried the dry lube power before also - and it also made my lock even worse.
      I tried WD-40 dry lube - and that did not help at all.
      Garbage locks/ignitions these days !

    is WD40 recommended???

    • @usernamedaniedmrg
      @usernamedaniedmrg 4 роки тому

      That tends to make things worse. WD-40 attracts dirt and will gum things up

    You used far too much, just need a little graphite off a pencil, it will work…. You clogged it more by using so much…
