    I love you, Laci! It's extremely refreshing to see someone so passionate about social welfare. However, I concur that child pornography laws NEED to be in place in terms of unlawful distribution. For example, in my high school, a couple got into a fight that ended with the boy posting naked pictures of the girl on his twitter page. THAT should be a punishable offense. I do see where you are coming. The safe practice of sexting, between two people, should bare no punishment just like the process of teenage sex shouldn't. But we you start distributing pictures of a naked teenage girl, there should be a price to pay.

    • @cocohorsey
      @cocohorsey 10 років тому +6

      Hi, just to clarify, she meant that teenagers under a certain age could be charged for a felony for sending the picture in the first place. For example, in many states, if a girl is, say, 15 years old and sending the picture, then she could be charged for distributing child pornography and the person to whom she sends it would be charged as well because, well, it counts as child pornography even if everything going on is consensual, so what she is saying is that those actions should not be dealt with as felonies that could register teenagers as sex offenders because they're part of cyberculture and it doesn't make sense.
      I hope what I said clears that up.

    After all my years as kid and teen being victim of bullying, I can say a photo can make a lot of damage... that time internet was something new and not like that and still a photo could be bad...
    That is why I will never sext... I had a partner who asked me several times and I said no (he got angry with me)... is not that I don't believe in him... but now I'm happy I didn't do it... his new girlfriend found all his photos of his exes and you won't believe what she did with these photos...
    Lesson learned... prefer do not send one of these... and if I send it it will be faceless!!!

      Dominique Thomas Although that's society's problem, not a specific person's view... Shaming female bodies so bad is not something that's normal. It took centuries of patriarchy to make women into sex objects, to the point that now even showing a piece of skin can be reason enough to slut-shame you, harass you, and even justify rape against you. Apparently, this NEVER happens to boys. So, the problem here is not the nude pictures (or nude in general), it's our rotten misogynistic culture.

    • @BadgerCheese94
      @BadgerCheese94 9 років тому +1

      Msl LogYt "This never happens to boys" I'm sorry, what? I'm pretty sure 99% of boys don't want nude pictures of them leaked.
      In my past, I've sent nude pictures of myself to guys AND girls, something I am not proud of. If I find out that one of those people showed those naked pictures of myself to friends or posted them online, I would feel horrible. I'm a guy btw, not a girl. Men are objectified sexually too by gay men and straight women. Stop making everything about "women's issues." My mom saw a picture that I sent of myself in underwear (not naked thank God) to this guy who was 19 when I was 17. How do you think I felt about that? How do you think SHE felt? My own father even told me "I think it's wrong that you do this, whether you send it to a man or a woman." No guy wants his sexts to be seen by anyone either. You think I want my family or friends to see naked pictures I sent when I was 17 and horny and stupid? Fuck no!

      What we know is that the world can be cruel... more now where there are several generations known as the most egoistical ever!!!
      And about men, they are shamed less than a woman except if they are what people call nerd... I know men who sent photos of their penis and when show in public they show happy people see their penis (happened to a friend)...
      Men and women can be shamed about their bodies, but is more true of a woman... look these revenge porn sites!!!
      And the owner of one of them is asking Google to delete all information about him and his trial in court...
      Normally men are not that shamed about their bodies but yes about reputation... want to hurt a man, doubt his masculinity (even gay hate that), destroy his reputation (what ever is the reputation he is proud of it), Men are naturally proud creatures, there is always something they are proud, be positive or negative... attack that and it will hurt them, and a lot!!!
      Women are also proud creatures, but different than men... also, we have millennium or being considered second hand humans, being men possessions, that men say that every bad thing in the world is our cause, that we are guilty of any bad thing that men do to use or to others, etc...
      So for the society is normal to shame a woman for everything!!! Many moms educate their daughters to not listen to this shaming... other teach their daughters to shame other women...
      Also, if people see the naked body of a man, after some months is forgotten... the naked body of a woman can take years to be forgotten, worse if she is famous...
      And many women were victims of revenge porn, where all their personal information were displayed, they received treats, they lost their job, and everybody say is their fault while the men behind the revenge porn are safe (well, no anymore, thanks to some victims that stalked the police and authorities to do something)...
      I know people who have naked photos of themselves and never shared, but a hacker took them and now they are shamed everywhere!!!
      And all say is the woman fault... no one say about the hacker, the man or woman that shared another woman's naked photos, no one say nothing about them... and they are even seeing as heroes for many people...
      Look 4chan... I stopped going to that webpage because I began to be scared of many things people say and post there... is like internet is a free way to let all the psychotics parts of the people get out!!!
      Read "Why internet hates women"... many times men don't accept women in internet, many think it is only for men... and no one defend women...
      Where were Anonymous when many women began to be victims of revenge porn??? Aren't they the super heroes of internet?
      Or all these hackers that call themselves defenders of the internet... Where are they when women need to be defended in internet???
      Also internet have people from different cultures and countries, in many of these countries they still see women as a thing, as an object, as a baby machine, as the cause of all evil in this world!!!
      Men and women can be victims... but for every man victim of body shame, there are thousands of women being body shamed!!!

  • @GiveMeAllTheSpace
    @GiveMeAllTheSpace 10 років тому +2

    As a mother the first thing I think about when I hear of teens sexting is "Slut shaming" Teenagers are horrible to each other especially on line, My personal advice. Don't sext if your under the age of 18. Its really not worth the risk. Even snap chat isn't safe. Don't under estimate the person you sent it to. They could have multiple camera devices to take a picture of that snap chat before it disappears. Or they could be with other people and show it off. Than their is that stupid child pornography law that makes even having a naked picture of yourself as a teen on your own phone a felony. Also are you sure that chick who sent you that hot naked photo of her self is 18 or older? "She said she was 18!" doesn't matter you still have the pic on your phone.

      Oh, no, no, no, she is NOT kidding. Kids around me that I know have bragged about shit like this. My friend's cousin, at nine years old, is bragging about having had sex with a boy, and brags a roster of ten or twelve or maybe more boyfriends.
      These things happen all the time. Little kids setting up Facebook profiles and getting hit on and asked for sex by teen boys and grown men, who often won't even stop is a nine-year-old tells them she's nine. It's terrifying.

    @jhmartin180 Sorry you were disappointed! However, I have no remorse. I don't feel I encouraged or discouraged it, just gave the facts. Further, this is not in place to tell people what to do with their lives or bodies, especially teens (who are oft robbed of their autonomy, furthering risky behavior and isolation). It's tell them both sides of the issue and to let them choose for themselves. I am NOT a parent and users' personal decisions should be kept just that...personal.

    @FeelFreeToArgue (contd) concerns for them--at any age. Of course, this requires prior lines of communication to work. Depending on the situation, taking away the phone might break lines of trust between parent & child which can jeopardize communication and perpetuate further risky behaviors. Unsubscribing from p-mail might be less extreme. Either way, tough call that prob has to be tailored to each individual teen! :(

  • @lacigreen
    @lacigreen  14 років тому

    @FeelFreeToArgue Hmmm, I totally understand your concern. Personally I think it's more realistic to make an assessment on a case-by-case basis. Parents are responsible for communicating with, protecting, and educating their kids. Realistically though, the decisions they make are theirs and are difficult to stop without risking much more important things. If it was my kid, I think I would initiate a conversation about it to fully understand their reasoning and then explain my own (contd)

  • @lacigreen
    @lacigreen  14 років тому

    @davism97 Thank you! And I totally agree. I think some parents hestitate to open lines of communication about bodies, body image, sexuality, and relationships from the start and then expect to sit down at 14 and have it be totally comfortable and normal (my parents--ha!). Gotta open those lines way ahead to nurture a safe, healthy future & relationship with them :P

    everything legally of what laci said is true. we have a lot of sex offender laws that shouldn't exist and radical feminism has been most instrumental in this in the governments war on sex. for example, do you think that a person who gets caught urinating in public should get the life time tag of being a sex offender? By the way, I ain't jiving you about this. In California you really can get a tag put on you for this.
    Is there anything we can do to change this shit about government? nope, you're pretty much in the same position as many of my gangster friends. you're going to have to find way to outsmart them. And hoping that our government gets overthrown someday and soon because of bullshit like this? optional as so many say it and nobody does it.
    now, if you're a woman, and thanks to both feminism and government you will probably be blamed for what radical feminists do when you didn't do shit. So, on top of the usual fucked up thing of revenge porn you also got to watch out for men that will set you up to post your body on the internet just out of hatred for feminism, especially if the target is a known feminist. I don't agree with this shit but I do understand how it was brought about.
    Now, here's a totally gangster way to sext without consequences. I recommend this for exhibitionists get off on this as well as women attempting to please their boyfriends and yet gets fucked over for it due to blockbuster break ups.
    1. hide your face. wear a mask. or anything that would conceal you're facial identity. Basically, dress up your face like middle East terrorists do.
    2. put fake tatoos on visible parts of your body such as your arms, chest, etc. this will further conceal your identity. you can even film yourself self pleasuring at night in a public place and if you got away with it and post it on the internet nobody will know who you are. these two steps alone is all the exhibitionist needs to enjoy what they do and I wish them good luck at this point. otherwise, for those doing this deliciously sexy shit to their boyfriends, we're not done yet.
    Step 3. before sending dirty pictures of yourself to your boyfriend, print them, put them in an envelope, mail it to yourself to get the post office date that is stamped on and hold on to that motherfucker as, congratulations, you have just copy writed your photos. beyond this, if any bullshit happens where your ex wants to do revenge porn you can take his ass to court and Sue him for fucking with your copy writed material which could get you good money.
    I call the above, Anonymous porn and I hope someday that it replaces any need of a porn industry and reduce the war among the sexes quite significantly. wella. I'll fuck with you people later as I gotta smoke a joint. take care and I hope the above helps everybody out.

    sexting is the act of cybering via text or basically creating a sexual scenario and both parties describing their actions in such a scenario. however much of the same discretion is required, ALWAYS double check who you are sending it to, last thing you want is to send it to your mom, make sure you trust the person, or even better do not know them in real life so there is no way it can make it back to haunt you, hopefully

And said foolish person should not be arrested, charged and possibly tried for such a foolish act. Nor should they be on a sexual predator list for the rest of their lives. I say toss out all nudity laws and let people be as naked as they wish.

    There was one guy who noticed that every single child in jail read comics (he failed to check if children OUT of jail also read comics, or if adults convicts read comics) This lead to much tamer comics, which lead to the Batman TV series, which lead to Batman and Robin. Taking a consenting picture of yourself should not a be a crime. Regardless of your age. It may not be smart but it shouldn't be illegal.

    I know many people have have been in strong healthy relationship's who chose to start sexting their partner. They are told me the same stories that the relationship slowly began to distant away from trust, honesty and respect and the sexting demand became obsessive/addicting with both or one individual/'s in the relationship where it got to the point where he/she only wanted to see PICTURES of their body... not the actual thing

  • @zeddyhead
    @zeddyhead 12 років тому

    Well if were just talking opinions and preference, I find it disrespectful in MY relationships because #1(lack of respect in myself) TO ME it shows the need to prove one's affection in only a matter of showcasing their body to their partner. And #2(lack of respect from partner) because it shows me my partner needs "my body" in order to feel satisfied in the relationship. In other words, I believe sexting could possibly detach the relationship emotionally and turn it into just a physical one.

    @acidrazor, I will agree with you in part, although the first responsibility of the communication process is on the parent side, the school as a social ground has to be “ A Must”, they are a way of grasping the kids understanding of the surrounding. Even if the pedophile logs to the minor, the sending of a picture means that there must had been a first encounter, so in my point of view I don’t think it is that simple… have you seen “catch a predator” :p

    On the subject of sexting, the reason I just don't think its a good idea at all, is because even between people who love and trust each other... You never know what the future holds. You could get in a fight and breakup later, and if the breakup is nasty, they might use your pictures to get back at you. Like post them online, or send them to your new lover, claiming you're fooling around. Your new lover will know your body parts... And again, kids/teens phones shoudln't have cams.

  • @RichMenAreEvil
    @RichMenAreEvil 14 років тому

    A lot of parents give their kids cell phones to keep track of them. But they're not as useful as you might think in that sense. Most kids don't answer when its their parents calling anyway. BUT if your kid ever gets lost, or stuck somewhere with no ride, then they can call you. Or if its an emergency, you can leave them a voicemail or text them. So in that sense, cell phones are a good idea. HOWEVER, its not necessary for a kid/teen's phone to have a camera. Its cheaper without a cam, actually.

    That is just the point, technicality it is under the law. The laws make no distinction, at this point, as to the person taking the picture, including the person themselves. If the photo is of someone who is naked and under the countries age of consent for sexual activities, then is is under-aged porn.
    One of the ironies is that in many countries if there is less then a 1 year age difference then actual sexual intercourse is ok ... as long as you don't record or photograph it.

    Pt2
    Laws do not change unless forced to do so. The best way is for the public to petition for the laws to be updated, changed, or otherwise modified so as to remain fair and equitable for all. The same laws that can put a teen on a sex register can also put parents on the register for sending a picture of their baby child to the grandparents, relatives and so on.
    Sometime you have to view take a law to the extreme and see if it is still fair, and doing as it was intended to do.

  • @Knightyme
    @Knightyme 14 років тому

    On the should sending nudes be illegal? Not if it is a photo of you that you took.
    If you have taken a photo of yourself and have been caught and are now on your local sex registry, and feel like giving the legal system a headache? Apply to have the sex offender put onto a restraining order, or it's equivalent. I would love to see a judge battle with restrain you from being within 200 meters of you.
    Does your area have a victims of crime fund? Apply for that as well.
    And yes I'm serious.

    @kkgemini86 If the parent was accepting, and the child could talk with them about things like this, and the parent could accept what like i say is natural, then of course the child could learn from the parent. Punishing your children without explanation will just lead to them rebelling, because they have certain urges, and you never explained to them why it was wrong, you just....ya know, punished them.

  • @pjnlsn
    @pjnlsn 14 років тому

    @kkgemini86 Teenagers will act sexually, all you can do is guide them, and be accepting of what is only natural. To completely control their environment and actions will just leave them unable to deal with their own lives, when they do need to act on their own.
    Of course you wish to prevent some predator from, say, tricking the child and, say, being allowed to 'prey' upon them...

    @kkgemini86 So what, you believe the world is a dangerous place, so people should have restrictions placed on them, so they don't ever meet up with the danger?
    Well I don't believe that, I believe that in a dangerous world. people should be thrown into the danger and be forced to adapt, or at least given the tools to deal with the danger, or avoid it, but that it should be the person them self who is aware of and knows how to be safe, rather than just being protected by some 'invisible hand.'

    I get that teenagers are sexual, heck if we had picture phones when I was that age my bill would have been through the roof. I just think there seems to be a lot of presure for kids to be openly sexual much earlier these days and things like mobile phones, webcams and sites like dailybooth and stickam seem to promote, not openly mind, the idea that if you are not showing off your body then you are not attractive. Sex Ed in schools needs to get with the 21st century and include these things.

    Teens(and pre) do what they've always done, only now its on the internet. ;)
    The sex offender thing is funny, but I seriously doubt they'd charge a chick with it, you just need to warn the boys about that.
    Good story: a friend's 22 yo F relative got knocked up by a 16 yo M, State was not interested in sex offender charges, they try to prosecute the 16yo for child support, lol. Parents are wha?? so they start the sex offender charges against the girl. Epic. :)

    @FeelFreeToArgue Just to clarify a little - I think it's awesome that confident young people share naked pictures of themselves. What I hate is that there are lots of rude assholes who pressure young people into giving them pictures and then violate that trust by posting them. This also has a good chance of damaging the self-confidence that allowed the sexter to take the picture in the first place. It's hard to tell when kids understand the consequences of what they're doing well enough.

    I fully support sexting and I don't think a couple of pictures sent between two 16 year olds should be considered the distribution of child porn. I also have an extremely strong moral rule that I will NEVER send a compromising picture of someone who has trusted me in that way. Everything is completely private, I don't care how awful they are to me and how bad a breakup is.

    We may not speak again, but I really don't understand how you think, in my defense.

    @kkgemini86 I wasn't trying to make unimportant what you've gone through. I was just talking about online, texting, facebook, w.e, really.
    The danger represented by a stranger in public is dealt with differently. If a so called teenage child is sexting or communicating over facebook and such, this wouldn't necessarily put them at any risk.
