I just love the last part of the video where the little dude is just eating the fresh produce right from the garden and teasing and smiling for the camera, he is so precious! Love your videos
I love how he talks to his grandson! Right Boy! And it’s so gentle knowing he might have a ton of them and don’t want to mess them up! I do that to my sons, After I call them each name and then finally I get to the right one!
I actually know a guy who buys 300lbs of worm casting each year. He tops his beds with 1 1/2"-2 "high of castings all over. He does not have to mulch his beds during the winter, for weed control, moisture control or temp control around the roots. And talk about a beautiful and bountiful garden. And he has no issues with bad insects. He has inspired me to use worm castings, except i have started my own worm farm...man i was surprised at how fast worms will break everything down and how much worm poo in just a weeks time!!!
Been using home grown worm castings in my garden for 2 years now. One of the biggest reasons I use it is because of the soil life it brings into your garden soil. I even went out and purchased a microscope to see what actually was living within my worm poop. Besides the abundance of bacteria there are protozoa, beneficial nematodes and since I went to natural bedding (shredded leaves, leaf mold and compost) a healthy population of beneficial fungi. One thing people should never do is use synthetic fertilizers along with worm castings, not only is it not necessary, but the synthetic fertilizers actually kill the microbes in the soil that ultimately feed our plants. Enjoy your videos.
I so appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos. Very helpful and encouraging! Added bonus to see your family taking part as well!! Thank you Captain Matt 👏
Great video as always. Very inspiring. I grow my seedlings with my own worm casting and ready to plant them. Weather just warming up in Ontario! Thanks Captain!
Great vid Captain! I think the best wisdom from the video is the instruction on letting people know that if they can't afford enough castings, to not spread them thin over the whole thing but to instead use them at the correct ratio on a part of the garden, then compare the garden parts at the end of the season. Thanks! Also surprised you don't use Worm Tea liberally on your garden. Maybe you do at later in the growing season?
THANKS for all the information and hands on information. Wish more people would involve the family in projects, the wold would be a much better place. Be safe thank again
I look forward to your videos! Love them very much! Highly informative! I am having issues with Carpophilus dimidiatus and I have no idea how to control them! There is nothing on line about what to do. I have several thousand red wigglers and super red European wigglers! Started with maybe 1 thousand couple years ago! Building my business and want to start going to farmers markets and spread the news on the best fertilizer in the world! Thank you for all your work and God bless you and your family!
I am a vermicompost container gardener that is I vermicompost in containers and plant directly into the bins my worms are in. I have a system of bottles that I use to water the plants and a seperate bottle system that feeds my worms directly into the soil. My problem is how do i get half of the castings out of my bins which have plants in and add new soil? the bins are 18 gal totes with drainage holes that are full of worms and almost pure castings at this point.
I am a worm aholic ! I have lots of worms and lots of castings all the time . I do it for just my own use , well I did gift my sister with some castings for her garden .
I have fully embraced my vermicompost addiction. I was told to use them in the garden all year if there is no snow on the beds. I spread some in February and will use what I have left for planting in May. Does that sound right?
I do have a question. Once you put the worm casting in your garden is it ok to just water out of the water hose? We have city water so it will have chlorine etc in it. Will i be killing off the good stuff from the worm castings by using city water?
This is the video I've been looking for !! :) I have 9 raised beds and have been wondering how to go about using castings. I can hardly wait for spring to come now to implement your technique. Thanks for this one Matt. 👍🪱🪱👍
Hey Captain love your videos who would of thought you’d use that much worm castings around the plant I’m gonna try that I was wondering why don’t you take us for a ride on your boat in a video that would be fun
Do you consider your castings completely organic? I don't know where the line is when feeding worms stuff. Like farm waste that was possible sprayed when growing. Peanut hulls ect..
Once it comes out of the worm's posterior end it is 100% organic. So, even if it was sprayed, as long as it goes through the worm's digestive tract when it comes out it is by definition organic.
So what would happen if you just dump a bunch of worms in your garden? Do they survive and feed the garden all season? Or would they just destroy the garden?
They definitely will NOT destroy your garden! If you have lots of organic material in your garden bed they will hang around for a while but if the moisture isn't there and you run out of food for them (that's the organic stuff - compost, manures, etc) they will move on to somewhere else.
I love seeing Jude working align with his grandpa! He’ll have so so many good memories

Hey @brianseybert2189, I want to get a microscope for doing the same. What microscope did you get?
Thank you Captain Matt! FINALLY, someone answered my question!
Glad to help!
Jude looks like a great worker!

Watch out Allan... the worms have a way of taking over 😂

I love Captain Matt's energy ! Love It U the Man
Thanks Home On The Range... sure beats the opposite!
Great video. Thank you so much for showing ultimate use of vermicompost. Proper use of vermicast is important to justify vermicomposting.
Thank you for a tutorial on how to put worm castings in the garden. I now know how to fertilise the plant in my garden. Amazing video Captain Matt.
Cpt.Matt, Best of Luck to you and your young crew, all season long, as your garden flourishes. Thanks for all the lesson you have shared.
Thanks for the vid.. I was always curious the amount
Awww your young helpers are precious!! Just found your channel and so glad I did. Subbed too by the way. May I share your link through my channel?

Great advice 😀
Can I place my worms 🪱 and food scraps in the worm bed and let them create worm castings in the garden itself?
What kind of bags do you store your castings in?
Great video! When will you be doing a video about using worm tea?
Where do you sell the worm castings?
I am a worm aholic ! I have lots of worms and lots of castings all the time . I do it for just my own use , well I did gift my sister with some castings for her garden .
Awesome, Dee! Castings are the perfect gift!
I have fully embraced my vermicompost addiction. I was told to use them in the garden all year if there is no snow on the beds. I spread some in February and will use what I have left for planting in May. Does that sound right?
Grateful, do you sell those worm casting bags? TIA
Hey Mike... I only sell castings locally (shipping costs are prohibitive). You might be able to find a local casting producer. Where are you located?
Poor Jude. That rake looked a little heavy for him. A job well-done though. Jude
I do have a question. Once you put the worm casting in your garden is it ok to just water out of the water hose? We have city water so it will have chlorine etc in it. Will i be killing off the good stuff from the worm castings by using city water?
Not best to use city water - or at least treat before using in garden.
About how many quarts are in one of your 1 ton bags?
Fantastic garden, have you ever consider put wood chips in your pathways?
Thanks for the idea, Bob!

See you in July Capn
Hey Captain love your videos who would of thought you’d use that much worm castings around the plant I’m gonna try that I was wondering why don’t you take us for a ride on your boat in a video that would be fun
Do you use any other fertilizer besides the worm castings?
That’s all I use these days!
Do you consider your castings completely organic? I don't know where the line is when feeding worms stuff. Like farm waste that was possible sprayed when growing. Peanut hulls ect..

Does the worm castings have a shelf life?
No but try to use within 5 years
Can you use this in soil blocking?
Great idea… I’ve not tried it though
How do you get in touch to buy worms
Hey Mark. I only sell to my local community. I recommend Meme’s Worms bit.ly/34F0OW4 for buying worms if you're in the United States.
I really thought worm castings would burn the plant.
Hi Capt. i love this video can you please help me out i started growing worms last oct. in 2022 i have a little over 20,000 now .

Hi Matt, As always, excellent advice. I started making Worm Tea according to your instructions. 👩🌾👍🪱
