Captain Matt is the purest person in the world!! I’m starting a worm compost system next week and I’ve been absorbing all this channel has to offer! Thank you for the help 😊😊
Captain Mat, thank you for sharing and teaching us, the younger worm generation. I have been watching, learning and practicing your methods over the last few months and my worm population is thriving!!!! I've just built my 1st bulk bin, my breeder buckets are prepped and I'm very excited. I still have a way to go but I'm super excited and without your channel I probably would not have had such good progress or enthusiasm. So, all the way from South Africa, thank you sir!! 🇿🇦 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
My homeboy 🇿🇦🇿🇦
Can I ask you what original worm bedding you use?
I absolutely love these videos. Doesn't take any level of genius to see that you are probably a really good person. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us who didn't have a Captain Matt in our family. Your family should be proud, the substance in your videos is off the charts. Thanks a million.
His heart felt goodness is bringing smile to me
Thank you for sharing this wonderful information - I’m following along and learning a LOT! We are in the process of building our worm box according to your instructions, and are eager to get started making our castings. We have a small sheep farm, and a campground, and are always looking for new ways to improve our walk with the land. Thank you, Captain, for sharing your knowledge, and for being such an excellent and engaging teacher!
Thanks for sharing your story! Great to hear. You’re welcome!
I just bread worms in 7.5 x 17.5 x 5.5 plastic container last month i performed a experiment i added on 23 april i i added 144 adult wiggler and 42+ juvenile and pre adult worms added after exact one month later i harvested 450 cocoons by hand and and then i stopped counting and left some cocoons with wigglers of course i was tired..
Whoa! That’s a lot of counting. Success!
What's the bedding used?
@@NalamPenu i just added cow mamure which was 10 days old and i cooled 4 days by adding water in morning and and evening this method cools down the whole manure.
Thanks for the demo - great to see what's done behind the scenes 👍🏻
I love the information and the family setting. Its endearing.💕
Captain Matt, I think you have the BEST job / business on Earth!! I wish you the best and endless blessings!

Hi captain Matt, I have started my worm farm to go with my tree farm, thank you! Great info, I hope to start breeding when temps drop a bit. I have been a huge composted for years, you have helped me to the next step, and for that I am grateful!

Hello Aa Frimpong - glad to help!
Thank you very much .
I remember years and years ago, like 42 years, my stepdad and I were putting together a nightcrawler farm. We put hardware cloth on the bottom, but it wasn't fine enough and all the worms headed for greener pastures. 😮
Thank you
Thank you Sir, So much for your time and giving back to the trade. I have a question. What is the best way to keep castings fresh?
Thank you captain Matt!
Really like how you threw all that worm knowledge out there. With organic live soil farming only picking up in popularity, these methods are great for keeping that soil web moving! Thank you so much!
Glad it resonated! Yes… sharing is important. Guarding information should not be how we make a living. The world is much too precious for that behavior!
Great info once again. I will try this soon!
Thanks so much for sharing all this information Captain Matt. 😊
My pleasure!
Thanks!!

Its like a living painting behind you 😍
What a beautiful view from the front of your house!
Thanks, outdoorguy90 ... good old Hudson River in upstate NY. Sometimes I just stop and take it in for a while.
Nice Honda, I use to have a Civic Coupe just like that one. You sir have good taste. Love your videos. Really makes me want to start a little little worm bin in my apartment
Only found this today and man it’s amazing thanks
Tomorrow I start a breeder bucket. But think as I already have a smaller bucket… I will use only 100 worms to start it, less if I can’t find 100 in the bin that are breakers. And we will go from there. It’s more the caccons I’m after as want to build my numbers up.
Thanks for this
Again thank you for your knowledge I'm really going to try and use the knowledge you shared to help my families little ranch down in Texas. Wish me luck and god bless.
You’re welcome, Troy! I look forward to hearing of your success!
Thanks again Captain.
I love your videos and your family!
Amazing thank you

You have a lovely family and I love your videos! Thanks for sharing. I’m new to vermicomposting and I was wondering what exactly, in your opinion, is the best bedding to use for a vermihut stackable composter? Thanks!
Thks so much i appreciate your videos
You are so welcome Jacqui!
Great video!!! Live to see what you do with the cocoons.
Thanks, Gregory. Looking forward to sharing!
Thank you! 1st year composting. I'm obsessed. Now worms! My first 100 worms are surviving my bin -think I'm ready to buy 1,000!
Awesome. Seems like it’s time, Eric!
@@CaptainMattsWorms Thanks! Built a 2x4, 12" deep now. How long do you think it will take w/ 1,100 to see castings out the bottom?
I like this guy. Thanks for the videos
Thank you very good content
You’re welcome, David. Glad it’s helpful to you!
Awesome 👌
Thank you for the great video as usual. Do you count or have idea of increase in the worm population from the 250 worms you put in the breeder bucket?
Thanks for sharing your operation.
Would have been interesting to actually see the results of your sifting comparing the bins with mostly just castings with the bins which are supposed to have higher numbers of eggs.
It would just be castings, worms, and cocoons.
All the best
Captain, I love the info! You are amazing my friend...all this info will improve my life...and I love my dogs just like you do, but man they are audio hogs, and they are really good at talking over us! Be good Cap, and thanx again!!
Good to hear. Thanks for the feedback Icculus... we'll work on that!
piper piper the red red worm!
awesome
Great video. (Though I'm pleasantly distracted by the amazing view behind you - the lovely dog, the lake, wow! 😊)
Thanks! That's the Hudson River. Morgan's a great dog (he's my grandson's) but he tries to herd the kids and talks a lot when he's at our place.
I love your videos 🤗 this is Vee by the way, watching from my other worm channel 😊

This is a big help. We are just getting started. This is such an important skill set to learn because the food we eat from the stores has lost the nutrients because of chemical fertilizer and pesticides that kill all the living organisms and enzymes we need to grow healthy food.
With the coming food shortage, every family needs to learn to grow healthy foods indoors hydroponics. We make a tea from the castings and feed the plants. Kratky is a way to grow hydroponics without electricity. They will start rationing electric like they do now in Puertorico. Their goal is to reduce the world population by 50% by 2025. So we all need to take responsibility and feed our families and help others as you are doing. Thnx friend, God bless. Proverbs 10:22, Deuteronomy 8:18 and 3 John 1:2…prosper and be in health…

I'd like to see information on breeder buckets for African night cralers. I really enjoy your videos!
Great content, got to do something with the dog while recording!
Hello Cpt. Matt great video. Thank you for taking the time to teach us. One question I have is whether the breeding buckets have holes in them underneath or in the sides? Thank you
Hey Pawel… no holes. Ventilation is enough from the open top. Moisture level is optimized for their 2 week stay - so no drainage needed.
Your the best, and youve been a singing around I can tell!
Ha! The kids like to catch me singing!
Great video. I am currently in Colombia looking to buy a hobby farm and l hope to do this on my farm.
Sounds like an amazing adventure, Gioknows! Keep us posted on your progress over at discuss.wormpeople.com/
I wonder, if you adjust the slope of the sifter to something closer to level, would that alleviate the need to push the compost back up into place as much? Maybe less wear and tear on the worms as well as you.
Ill have to finish one a bit later when my dogs arent around. They heard yours barking and went nuts
I am like you, in that I think buckets are easier to manage than trays. Trays are also expensive, while buckets are free.
Exactly, Sam!
Hey captain Matt
I bought one pound of worms. I made a bid like you showed in a black Home Depot bin. I used peat moss base and added brown and green then about a cup of ground egg shells. They did good for about a week I fed again after they ate and about 4 days later most of all my worms wore non existent. I did not see dead worms, just no worms. Any comments on what May have happened?
You are a great teacher sir. I am a worm farmer in Kenya and I can confess you have educated me new tricks I never knew before on the two-week cocoon cycle. However I wonder if you feed the 250 worms for that period or starve them?
By your great inspirational clips I have subscribed to support you sir.
He top feeds them during the 2 weeks. Best of luck!
Hi there. I'm having trouble with the little flies that are coming from the bedding. Please any tips would be great. I'm a first timer. Thank you. Please keep the videos coming. I love the family interaction.
Hey John! We just discussed this topic in “Just Worming Up - Episode 2” ua-cam.com/video/gc4OhiT1F0Y/v-deo.html
Hey Captain Matt!
Thanks for the video! What's in the bedding for the breeder bins?
Thank you I will start with 5 gallon bucket.
Been watching your vids and I must say you have a great operation and I've learned quite a lot so thank you Captain. Started growing wheat grass mats and I've done it with peas as well. I'm probably somewhere around where Cap was at when he did it for his own use which I do for my garden. I'm small time and don't have the equipment that Cap has but with 2 to 3 bins going, I really don't want to invest in equipment. What I do want is a great garden. Last season I produced 30 gallons give or take and this coming season I would like to double that or better. You can never have enough casting.
That's awesome. Right... I'm the same way - it's all about the garden. I'd love to see what the pea sprouts look like - shoot me a photo if you get a chance to matt@captainmattsworms.com
@@CaptainMattsWorms Ok Cap, give me a bit. I will tell you that my experimental pea mat turned out to be wonderful. The peas are almost as fast as my wheat grass in developing and created a wonderful mat actually thicker in vegetation than even the wheat. I stuck my pea mat into one of my bins about a week ago and the worms are showing lots of interest. I'm fellow old dude like you, turning 75 tomorrow and like you, I try to stay relevant and productive. My appreciation for wigglers knows no end.
@@itsopinion7430 That's awesome. Seems like we're cut from the same cloth!
I just picked up your channel and learned so much just watching this one episode. I had European Crawlers but winter in the garaged doesn't do them any good. I'm in Pennsylvania and they freeze out. Any suggestions?
I like the sifter. Where did you get this and what is the approximate cost? Thanks
Thank you! Love the real time production. Did you build the sifter?
Scratch that. I see the link. Thank you!
You are amazing!!! Do you sell castings and soil? I started my own compost pile/ warm farm because of you!!
So cool to hear, Chris! Right now, I only sell castings locally in the Albany, NY area.
What do you do with the worm castings
Nice job,
What temp.
Ranges can the worms survive while living and breeding.?
Just found your channel, Thanks for sharing, I'm wondering what the bedding media that is used
