I did it alone & with family several times on active duty…BIG risk! Be prepared to shell out thousands of dollars when they cancel a Flight 2 hours before scheduled departure. This happened when my family of 4 got to Andrews only have been mission canceled. Also, arriving at a MAC terminal isn’t at all like arriving at an airport. You may have to walk miles to get to the font gate to get a Uber. It can be fun but nerve racking
I'm a guardsman with 25 years in and on my last deployment I got hurt and am not looking at being medically retired. I will likely hit 100%. However, I'm wondering if I am medically retired will I then get an ID card that allows me and my wife and kids to travel space a?
For details see DODI 4515.13 (www.esd.whs.mil/Portals/54/Documents/DD/issuances/dodi/451513p.pdf). As far as I can tell, they don't make a distinction between the reason for a Service Member being retired. (VA Rating won't matter). The one thing that might be tricky with you is that if you DON'T get medically retired, you would have to travel as a "Grey Area Retiree".
Hill AFB has taken down a lot of their info. Historically, they have had extremely low Space A utilization (like 58 seats in a single year). It looks like the only option is a phone number 801-777-3039. But you also might try the 151st Air Refueling Wing's telephone call-in number at 801-245-2415. They operate out of Salt Lake City International Airport and might offer some seats.
Much appreciated
Glad to be of service.
Very helpful. Exactly what i was looking for
Thanks, man.

You make 2 good points. I've humped a ton of luggage for ridiculous distances just to get to a taxi.
