Zapata is a Colombian and he only gave VEN and CO perfect scores (while underscoring every other delegate), whereas Grudt is a Norwegian who gave high scores to an Asian (IN), a European (GR) and a girl from the Americas (USA). It's not the same thing, no matter how hard some fans are trying to present it this way. I'm really happy Zapata's plan failed.
Miss India took a wise decision choosing this gown for semi finals. Had she wore her preliminary gown in the finals, it would have made her ascent to the Crown more tedious!!!
After the craziness and excesses of the 80's, the 90's gowns took a well deserved break with cleaner lines and stripped back silhouettes. Remember, grunge was forcing fashion to reevaluate its questionable 80's choices. Italy's is still among the most iconic MU history.

I'm from the USA, and even though Shusmita made a great Miss Universe, Carolina Gomez is the contestant in all of Miss Universe history that I am most heartbroken that she will never get to be Miss Universe. There are so many winners....just in the 90s alone....that she is better than. I adored her.
Italy has beautiful blond hair and yet she chose to cover it up with a head scarf which was supposed to be part of her evening gown. Actually, other than the head covering part, the design of the rest of her gown is nothing special. In fact, head covering part reminds me of those head scarves worn by widows at their husbands’ funerals. Thank goodness that this design never became popular as it just covers too much. On a separate note, it is interesting to note that not one judge gave Italy a 9.9 score. Even Greece and Sweden who finished at the bottom rank received at least one or two 9.9 scores.
