I think this has been one of the highest rated miss universe evening gown competition since the lowest score is 9.618, that's good compared with the currently miss universe evening gown scores, and I also think this is the fairest score to every contestant since the most beautiful and stunning women were: Colombia, Venezuela and Phillipines as well as India.

Greece was one of my favorite that year. Too bad it all came crashing on her during finals night especially when she topped both evening gown and swimsuit segment during the prelims.

And here comes the best part.....I think I'm going to cry again......while I was constantly repeating the part from 1:36 I was trying to see what country was written on her sash. First I thought I saw Bulgaria or Sri Lanka, but while I was watching it all over again.....I saw that it was.........Suriname. And that's the best part...........I am from Suriname.

Too bad for Ms. Colombia. She consistently topped the semifinals but in the end it was the wit of India that outshone her. I like her to win though. :)

I think miss venezuelas gown is the best as it can crfoss all eras of fashion in pageant from the late 80s to now it is a gown that is very beautiful and she is in a league of her own in the sense that she is statuesque very tall and the look of today i think she was robbed definetly

An educated person would not try to imply any form of bias when there isn't. Noted that the lowest score Mona Grudt gave to was also a European. It is telling that you didn't point out that Zapata consistently gave the highest scores to the Latinas. I guess THAT is ok, huh?

This one happens only in the Philippines.The candidates seems to be friendly to children. I am proud to be a filipino. I never saw again such thing in the Miss Universe pageant! the Pageant in the Philippines is the most memorable one.
Did everyone noticed that colors of gowns the candidates wore had 2 of each? If the host called Philippines first before slovak republic, you would notice the arrangement of the candidates according to the color of the gowns they wore. Just an observation.

Basta ver el rostro de la niña que la entrega la flor, sabe que está ante la más bella. Un comentario adicional, la señorita Italia tiene uno de los trajes de gala más originales y bellos de toda la historia, Arianna David debió quedar en el podio de las 5. 1-Miss Grecia por lo que parece, quiso hacer honor a su antiguo imperio griego, pues se peinó como las mujeres griegas de la antigüedad ¡¡¡ aunque hoy en día queda horroroso y la desmejoró totalmente!!2-Miss Venezuela muy elegante con este diseño blanco, estaba muy favorecida. 3-Miss Colombia es muy elegante el traje, pero creo que su puntuación estuvo sobrevalorada , por cierto este modelo fue copiado idénticamente de un modelo de las actrices de los años 40 en Hollywood (lo ví en una revista de cine de la época). 4-Miss Italia llevaba un diseño del famoso diseñador Valentino, muy elegante aunque la miss al no ser alta se veía bastante enana. (por cierto Carlos Arturo Zapata le dio un 9;00 raso ¿sería porque era un Valentino de Alta Costura...y ser competencia....?

i a hundred percent agree that the miss universe 1994 was one of the best in history of beauty pageants. it was a headachelike and hard decision to evaluate ten semi-finalists. now that i've watched the show 13years ago, they are still beautiful with even the old fashioned costume.

anyone noticed that this is THE FIRST TIME during the evening gown segment that the delegates did NOT wear their sash? By 1998, they didn't wear their sash on both swimsuit and evening gown competitions. In 2001, it would be worn only during the interview segments and finalists' segments.
This year was special as all the top 3 finalist Miss India, Venezuala and Columbia were the top 10 highest scorer in Miss Universe history making it the toughest competition in miss universe ever.
Well I can't say that everyone should agree that it's bad, as everyone is entitled to their opinion. Just to correct your word of veil, I know you meant hood, not being nasty, but just so our conversation flows as others read. I don't feel a dress is a gown when there's a hood attached. Think of Spain's dress the year before (93), it was an evening gown, but looked more like it belonged on a fashion show in paris. That's the best example I can give, and Spain did get killed in scoring for it
But the dress wasn't good either. It's the hood that's bad. This isn't a fashion show in Paris. I don't think a Venezuelan or Filipino candidate would ever wear it. Quiambao's dress in 99 was one of the best I've ever seen (top 3 in 23 years of watching). Venezuela almost always wears blue or white, and the dress was black. There was nothing wrong with Colombia's dress, it was elegant, it was an evening gown. It covered most of her body, unlike todays choices, and it fit her personality.
India: way to high, Venezuela: Also way to high, Greece: about right, Switzerland: maybe a tad lower, USA: about right, Italy: way to high (awful dress and to much catwalk), Sweden: about .3 to high, Slovak Rep: should be .1 higher, Phillippeans: .1 lower, Colombia: Right on the money
Boy, you are nuts. I mean it's one thing to argue for Italy, but Sweden?? I mean come on, this was one of their countries worst dresses. Italy was also acting to much like she was on the runway, and I think that's what actually earned her such a low score.
You know that really is a good analogy that you use. though boner may be a bit crude, it's still right on the money. Back then it was about falling in love, now it's about lusting over.
If you see the scores that Mona gave to miss Colombia they were extremely low compared to the other judges' who seem to have a positive opinion about miss Colombia....that makes me wonder

SI OBSERVAN BIEN, CAROLINA GOMEZ MISS COLOMBIA 1994 estuvo muy cerca de llegar al umbral de los 9.9... lastima que la Grudt le haya dado ese 9.3 que le bajo mucho el promedio. QUE CONTRADICTORIO ESTE JURADO, a Miss India todos le dieron calificaciones bajas mientras que la Grudt le dio un 9.9, y a la Miss Colombia le da uno bajo, que triste que toda una exmiss univeso no haya visto bien la belleza de la Gomez!!
LOS INTERESES POLITICOS PRIMARAN MÁS QUE LOS PARAMETROS DEL CONCURSO... Miss Colombia era la mas bella, la mas preparada, la mejor... pero mas que a la percepcion de elegir mujeres bellas debemos reconocer que Trump y su imperio empresarial busca siempre elegir las representantes de países dodne sus mercados puedan abrirsen (India y Asia) o en los cuales esten en riesgo de ser suprimidos por dictadores comunistas (Chavez en Venezuela). Colombia nunca tandra MU, y eso es una realidad!
A pesar de haber tenido un performance a destacar en toda la historia de MU, no debe resaltarse que Carolina obtuvo el mejor puntaje de Evening Gown en la historia, simplemente xq los jueces son distintos cada año! Es muy simple...De cualquier manera sí fué una elección que aún da rabia, pues ella debió ser la ganadora...Grudt y Zapata mostraron inequidad como jueces, pero los otros tampoco demostraron con claridad su juicio en los puntajes dando #s tan altos a todas

Sushmita Sen is really adorable. I watched the pageant at PICC and I got to see her in person not only during the competition but also during the post pageant breakfast party. Just put it this was, she edged over Aiswarya during the Femina Miss India then finally wins over Carolina Gomez in Miss U.

I agree, Miss universe nowdays it is just a catwalk. Just beautiful girls without a little brain. Miss universe 1994 was full of gorgeous and smart girls. The semifinals were really beauty. I think this is one of the best miss universe edition. India, Colombia and Venezuela were very closed in competition. India answered the question a little better than Colombia, this was the reason of her success
Miss India-Beautiful Gown and Stage presence; Venezuela-Classy; Greece-too young and I didn't like the gown; Switzerland-lovely; USA-Nice; Italy - Original; Sweden - No, looked like she was wearing drapery fabric; Slovak Rep. - Don't like her; Phillipines - O.k., nothing special...bad hair day; Colombia - Gorgeous lady, don't like the striped gown but she has the X factor that made it work....that's why she scored the highest!
Nevertheless Carolina Gomez's performance at eve gown compet is remarkable, it's not fair to ressemble it as the best in MU history, simply 'cause judges are different every year! Anyway, she totally deserved to win, it's still hard to understand why she didn´t. Grudt and Zapata did so wrong as judges, showing inequity; other judges did't make any difference, were all plain giving so high scores to all semifinalists

U.S.A. tenía uno de los rostros menos bellos y su vestido no estaba acorde con su figura sin embargo obtuvo un puntaje considerable a unos pocos puntos de VENEZUELA, INDIA Y COLOMBIA quienes optaron por llevar diseños más sueltos y estilizados.

Soy filipino y vi el concurso. La ganadora era Colombia por encima de la Miss India, una mujer sin nada memorable que recordar.

Too bad for Ms. Colombia. She consistently topped the semifinals but in the end it was the wit of India that outshone her. I like her to win though. :)

An educated person would not try to imply any form of bias when there isn't. Noted that the lowest score Mona Grudt gave to was also a European. It is telling that you didn't point out that Zapata consistently gave the highest scores to the Latinas. I guess THAT is ok, huh?

1-Miss Grecia por lo que parece, quiso hacer honor a su antiguo imperio griego, pues se peinó como las mujeres griegas de la antigüedad ¡¡¡ aunque hoy en día queda horroroso y la desmejoró totalmente!!2-Miss Venezuela muy elegante con este diseño blanco, estaba muy favorecida. 3-Miss Colombia es muy elegante el traje, pero creo que su puntuación estuvo sobrevalorada , por cierto este modelo fue copiado idénticamente de un modelo de las actrices de los años 40 en Hollywood (lo ví en una revista de cine de la época). 4-Miss Italia llevaba un diseño del famoso diseñador Valentino, muy elegante aunque la miss al no ser alta se veía bastante enana. (por cierto Carlos Arturo Zapata le dio un 9;00 raso ¿sería porque era un Valentino de Alta Costura...y ser competencia....?

i a hundred percent agree that the miss universe 1994 was one of the best in history of beauty pageants. it was a headachelike and hard decision to evaluate ten semi-finalists. now that i've watched the show 13years ago, they are still beautiful with even the old fashioned costume.

anyone noticed that this is THE FIRST TIME during the evening gown segment that the delegates did NOT wear their sash? By 1998, they didn't wear their sash on both swimsuit and evening gown competitions. In 2001, it would be worn only during the interview segments and finalists' segments.
This year was special as all the top 3 finalist Miss India, Venezuala and Columbia were the top 10 highest scorer in Miss Universe history making it the toughest competition in miss universe ever.

Well I can't say that everyone should agree that it's bad, as everyone is entitled to their opinion. Just to correct your word of veil, I know you meant hood, not being nasty, but just so our conversation flows as others read. I don't feel a dress is a gown when there's a hood attached. Think of Spain's dress the year before (93), it was an evening gown, but looked more like it belonged on a fashion show in paris. That's the best example I can give, and Spain did get killed in scoring for it
But the dress wasn't good either. It's the hood that's bad. This isn't a fashion show in Paris. I don't think a Venezuelan or Filipino candidate would ever wear it. Quiambao's dress in 99 was one of the best I've ever seen (top 3 in 23 years of watching). Venezuela almost always wears blue or white, and the dress was black. There was nothing wrong with Colombia's dress, it was elegant, it was an evening gown. It covered most of her body, unlike todays choices, and it fit her personality.

India: way to high, Venezuela: Also way to high, Greece: about right, Switzerland: maybe a tad lower, USA: about right, Italy: way to high (awful dress and to much catwalk), Sweden: about .3 to high, Slovak Rep: should be .1 higher, Phillippeans: .1 lower, Colombia: Right on the money

Boy, you are nuts. I mean it's one thing to argue for Italy, but Sweden?? I mean come on, this was one of their countries worst dresses. Italy was also acting to much like she was on the runway, and I think that's what actually earned her such a low score.

vaya, impresionante evening gown, todas eran unas verdaderas princesas, mi favorita en el desfile fue Venezuela, la mas bella de la competencia, la mas elegante y ese vestido, wooow!!! fabuloso, ni mas que decir, en lo que a Sushmita respecta, estuvo muy bella, magiifica, el vestido sensacional y buena actitud, felicidades Sushmita.
SI OBSERVAN BIEN, CAROLINA GOMEZ MISS COLOMBIA 1994 estuvo muy cerca de llegar al umbral de los 9.9... lastima que la Grudt le haya dado ese 9.3 que le bajo mucho el promedio. QUE CONTRADICTORIO ESTE JURADO, a Miss India todos le dieron calificaciones bajas mientras que la Grudt le dio un 9.9, y a la Miss Colombia le da uno bajo, que triste que toda una exmiss univeso no haya visto bien la belleza de la Gomez!!
LOS INTERESES POLITICOS PRIMARAN MÁS QUE LOS PARAMETROS DEL CONCURSO... Miss Colombia era la mas bella, la mas preparada, la mejor... pero mas que a la percepcion de elegir mujeres bellas debemos reconocer que Trump y su imperio empresarial busca siempre elegir las representantes de países dodne sus mercados puedan abrirsen (India y Asia) o en los cuales esten en riesgo de ser suprimidos por dictadores comunistas (Chavez en Venezuela). Colombia nunca tandra MU, y eso es una realidad!
A pesar de haber tenido un performance a destacar en toda la historia de MU, no debe resaltarse que Carolina obtuvo el mejor puntaje de Evening Gown en la historia, simplemente xq los jueces son distintos cada año! Es muy simple...De cualquier manera sí fué una elección que aún da rabia, pues ella debió ser la ganadora...Grudt y Zapata mostraron inequidad como jueces, pero los otros tampoco demostraron con claridad su juicio en los puntajes dando #s tan altos a todas

Sushmita Sen is really adorable. I watched the pageant at PICC and I got to see her in person not only during the competition but also during the post pageant breakfast party. Just put it this was, she edged over Aiswarya during the Femina Miss India then finally wins over Carolina Gomez in Miss U.

I agree, Miss universe nowdays it is just a catwalk. Just beautiful girls without a little brain. Miss universe 1994 was full of gorgeous and smart girls. The semifinals were really beauty. I think this is one of the best miss universe edition. India, Colombia and Venezuela were very closed in competition. India answered the question a little better than Colombia, this was the reason of her success
Miss India-Beautiful Gown and Stage presence; Venezuela-Classy; Greece-too young and I didn't like the gown; Switzerland-lovely; USA-Nice; Italy - Original; Sweden - No, looked like she was wearing drapery fabric; Slovak Rep. - Don't like her; Phillipines - O.k., nothing special...bad hair day; Colombia - Gorgeous lady, don't like the striped gown but she has the X factor that made it work....that's why she scored the highest!
Nevertheless Carolina Gomez's performance at eve gown compet is remarkable, it's not fair to ressemble it as the best in MU history, simply 'cause judges are different every year! Anyway, she totally deserved to win, it's still hard to understand why she didn´t. Grudt and Zapata did so wrong as judges, showing inequity; other judges did't make any difference, were all plain giving so high scores to all semifinalists
