Ranking WOW Cataclysm Tanks From Best to Worst

- While all tanks are viable to clear all the content in the game in Cataclysm Classic, there are huge differences both in performance and the type of role the tanks will be looking to fill.
With a clear choice of the main tank, guilds will need to figure out what they want to bring as off-tank.
As we start getting access to the Cataclysm Beta, we'll know more about how Blizzard decides to handle the tuning of block classes. But for now, this is how the tanks currently rank and I have a hard time seeing that changing anytime soon.

People ALWAYS forget the divine protection glyph that makes it 40% reduced magic damage instead of 20% all damage.
I used that on many fights and it helped so much to with solo tank cheese strats.
Hey man, nice videos - keep it up! Small note; Vengeance caps at a number equal to Stamina plus 10% of base health, which is lower than 10% of health. The tooltip can be misleading and was written that way to keep it simple. There exists a bluepost from 2011 when searching for "wow cataclysm vengeance calculation".

Blood DK S Tier MT, Feral Druid S Tier OT, Paladin A, Warrior B that is what I remember
Pretty much -- OT will depend on fight. Want extra dps + movement? Druid. Want extra defensives and utility for the raid + strong personal defensives to offload MT? Paladin.
Overall my go-to recommendation would be DK MT and Druid OT, especially for 10m raiding.
Still realt hoping they end up doing at least SOME tuning for the less desireable classes. Ill struggle through cata as a prot warrior if i have to, but id rather be at least closer to the others. Im not independant enough for DK and my brain doesnt process enough information quickly for all the utility of pally. ONLY ZUG!

I raid tanked with every plate class during Cata, and Blood is particularly OP if you know what you’re doing. Paladin is pretty strong, though not on the level it was during WotLK, and Warrior is definitely the weakest of the three, though still perfectly viable. I dungeon tanked as a Druid, and they’re pretty strong too, especially since they have the best damage as an OT.
You don’t really have to even know what you’re doing.
paladin with glyph of daze for avenger's shield is what makes them superior. Can slow 3 mobs as your team finishes them off while you run to the next pack.
Surely "dead on arrival" is a bit of a stretch right? I do agree with weakest in terms of mitigation but surely viable
A bit hyperbolic- initially made these to be focused at the high end of raiding. But yeah, you can definitely clear the content as any tank.
Been leveling my dk in preparation for Cata. Blood tanking is hella fun. Who needs a healer when youve got a BDk.
I kinda hope they tune warriors and pallys up tho just because i feel bad for people playing them 😂
Why ask for heals when you can become the healer.
This is further expanded upon when you remember there was a group of 25 blood dks doing dragon soul heroic and actually killing bosses. Video is still on youtube if u wanna see for yourself.

I main prot warrior currently and just recently started tanking 5 man heroics. in some heroics i feel pretty damn tanky, in others it can get pretty sketchy staying up. i've commited to gearing as prot though and even crafted myself the epic tank shield with blacksmithing! It's been a lot of fun though

Huge problem with magic dealers, massive damage if you stand in stuff that we can't negate. But tanking usually takes knowledge over classes but sometimes you just can't tank it like bdk

I think people dont realize how broken BDK is. If BDK is S tier every other tank is C tier and prot warrior D tier. There are many many many bosses that can be solo tanked only by BDK. Few bosses first tier and litteraly all of Firelands (even the spider boss with some cheesing)

I cleared all the heroic raids as a prot warr just fine in og cata idk why people act like these tier lists are viability lists.

I know it might sound weird. But i like to solo content as tank, so i need big numbers. On WOTLK Prot Pal was king, what about Cata?
some of the biggest numbers are going to be druid and warrior as far as damage is concerned. Especially on multi target fights. Druid berserk spam not only can make you top damage meters on fights with 2-3 enemies for how strong it is, the nature of how 'savage defense' works gives you extra chances to proc it so you're almost always with that shield up
The problem with warrior is that their lacking defensive utility and their mastery in this expansion is almost useless.
DKs are still the biggest pumpers. On most fights you're beating DPS on the meters, not to mention the self sustain.

I dunno, balancing was a little off then too, haha. If anything, 4.3.4 balancing but mastery adjusted to follow patch cycles.
amazing to me that basically every content creator is giving druid best OT over warrior, seems none of them are considering the amazing utility of the intervene talent, basically give the MT a mini pain supression every 30 seconds. Combined with things like vigilance giving you instant taunt CD on spider boss among others warrior provides a ton of unique ways to deal with mechanics as the offtank.
druid also has tranq + innervate as utility.
tranq is limited value, but innervate is good stuff for sure

Everyone will be playing blood dk because it simply out performs everyone by miles. feral is nice for off-tanking :)

I do remember blood dk's being absolutely insane. I'd also like to say I am excited for Cata but it's definitely a different game than the first 3 versions of the game. I wish we would've gotten an Era version for BC and Wrath, thousands of us still want it and are all over the forums. It's not too late, if you want an Era BC or Wrath server let your voice be heard! All in all I am still excited for Cata and would love an Era version for Cata as well, after that MoP had it's greatness in PvP but I didn't enjoy the xpac. at all. It would be fine with me to stop after Cata imo.
Although the commentary is nice, I found it difficult to actually watch though? What was with that ADHD screen movements throughout? And then you sped it up effectively creating a seizure inducing amount of screen wobbling? Please have more pleasing visuals, because the information you provide is actually valuable.
Thanks for the feedback! This was one of the first videos I made and if I would’ve remade the video, there would’ve been a lot of things I would’ve changed. Learning a lot and hopefully it translates to future videos.

If less people have an raid wide DR, it becomes better, not worse.
If DK is the best, then why there was a consensus in the US forum that he was too weak 10 years ago? And why the DK received a buff? => The 6 % damage reduction when the blood runes are on cooldown became a passive talent.
Because we're playing on 4.3.4 tuning; they were not that strong in OG cata
@@Riyaniwow Yes, but even with that buff the DK is not the best one. Remember: DK got an increase of armorbonus from 30 to 55 % in blood presence while the bear raised from 60 to 120 %! Also their endurance bonus raised from 10 to 20 %.

Druid / DK / paladin these 3 are god tier but Warrior is not that good in cataclysm first 2 tiers :D

Cata has amazing raiding, so I think it'll become a raidlogging expansion very quickly.
Idk man, the raids and dungeons are infinitely better than wrath and we're back to the old world, though changed of course. To me cata is closer to vanilla than wrath is.

it doesnt matter how good a class is in the teir list if the person playing them cant play the class efficiently. everything looks so good on paper until its put into action and you realize your super S tier tank in your raid group sucks.
There'll definitely be quite a few flavor-of-the-month blood DKs dying like flies because they don't know how to utilize their skillset for sure.
Personally, I still think warriors are the most fun to play :)

best healer rank
Best or most fun? All healers are really good, kinda hard to actually make a list for them. My list for most fun to least fun would be:
Druid, then tied for second is disc(atonement) priest and shaman, holy priest and non atonement disc being 3rd with pally being the least fun. At least for me personally. Leveled all healers up and did a couple firelands with each on a private server.
Paladin and DIsc priest top healers at all phases
Will definitely be making a video on healer ranking along with commentary before release!

Poor prot warrs in the C tier when nobody is even in the B tier. Prot wars really got it dirty for the majority of WoW's lifespan

Bro ✋ some people have to work 12 hrs and have 5 kids. I don’t have time to grind gold, I spend every day i work either working or sleeping. If I want to compete I need to use my hard earned money to play. If you can play 8+hrs a day and don’t have to work 10-12 then kudos to you. However not everyone can be a stay at home dad or a 30 yo virgin in their parents house.
For pure utility and ass saving moments I would place Pally over DK's there will be more bad DK tanks than Pally Tanks

Really? Feral has like 2 buttons when tanking? DK has a lot of stuff going on and does some of the best damage of all tanks.
I was playing on a private server for 8 months and DK is by far the most fun of all tanks(played every tank and healer up to firelands). Pallys are the most boring tanks and healers.

Just because every tank can clear content doesn't mean their performance is the same. DK is the best tank by far in cata, and warrior is the worst. It's not up for debate.

Allegedly blizzard has stated that, if there was ever enough lashback and desire for a wrath Era server, they have a plenty of resources to do so. With the infrastructure they have, releasing old content over again is nearly zero cost. This has already been addressed according to the buzzings I've heard around discussion posts. Something that boils down to "we already did this, we have the backups, and you idiots keep paying for something that doesn't cost us a penny to maintain indefinitely"- my own words
