The song, in my perspective, is about how we sometimes dream of a life or a world we want to live in or experience and how that brings us far apart from the real world. The protagonist is infactuated with the white haired girl and the world she comes from, and is slowly being consumed by it ( like how his hair changes from red to white at the end). He is dreaming of a life he wants to live in his imagination while living the actual life emptily, without having any purpose in the real world.
This is something normal in our lives too. We always imagine a life we want to live and almost die in the present. Thus the titular "living idly and dying as if dreaming".
Few of my favourite lines were
"Likes and dislikes aren't enough if my disposition can't be helped" and
"Seemingly dazzling individuals I cannot bear to look at"
Humans are distinguished and identified by qualities such as likes, dislikes, interests, hobbies, etc. So the protagonist saying likes and dislikes aren't enough is maybe because he isn't skilled or talented in anything and cannot compete in the real world; and the "seemingly dazzling individuals" are the people ahead of him, those who are ambiguous and have left him behind.

The Art. It looks so real and has this beautiful ambience to it. Every scene looks like it’s been dripped in gold. The animation is unbelievably smooth and detailed. From lighting to colors, to the fluidity. The music accompanies it perfectly. Like what the sky would feel like if I could grab it, silky and light. So much heart went into this.

“i fell in love in a world that no one knows of, going towards the story of that day i wished for”, i think it resumes a recurring topic of his lyrics. he’s often talked about locking himself up in his own “space”, either for avoiding not to get hurt in the real world or because he struggles to fully live life and be present in the moment (this song is literally about living life as if dreaming). tho he’s unable to experiment strong emotions in the real world, his dream gives him what he’s lacking (therefore falling in love in/with a world unknown to others). either way he always shows hope for the future, therefore waiting for the day he’ll finally be able to live fully even outside of his dream - a dream he created to compensate all the things he’s missing. i recall another song of his going “the best day is waiting for me” and many other verses along these lines. and in this video too, it’s clear that living in a dream is also comforting cause it allows him to be the protagonist of his own world, which he’s unable to traspose in the real one. this is another recurring topic of his lyrics (ambivalent: “when i was a kid i used to picture myself as the protagonist of this world; i started to get embarrassed so i turned my eyes away”, but he still fulfills his wish in his dreamlike-world). aaa i’m sorry this sounds like a mess i just really love his songs and the way they still intertwine with each other even after all these years.
It also shows in the videos. The ones about events that happen to him are brightly colored, even if the event is bad (e.g. The Secret About That Girl), but the introspective ones are darkly colored.
I feel like after reading this that the red haired character and the dancing lady are the dream versions of the white haired boy and the lady in the field with the crescent moon on her dress who exist in real life

I keep coming back to this. It's the only thing that's really spoken to me in a long time. It feels like someone actually understands how I feel about wishing to live in fantasy worlds my mind has created but being apprehensive about staying stuck in daydreams and maybe not really "living". It also speaks to me about how I am afraid to share my fantasy worlds through my art due to fear of them not being understood or good enough. So I stay stuck in my mind and live "idly dying". There is so much meaning behind this video and the lyrics.

This is how I interpret the song : Fall in love with the world inside his head (dream) & knowing that it isn’t real. Always go to his world as a coping mechanism. Sometimes can’t even tell what’s the reality anymore. So he just keep his head and live this life apathetically, contemplating whether he should give up or not (whether it is giving up his dream or his life). Or maybe that’s just what I feel when I listen to this song

3:14 captivated by this mirage, you are to the extent of being dazzling - i interpret this as him portraying himself as a hero in his imaginary world. maybe its tying back to the earlier lines seemingly dazzling people, even though its not real hes telling himself hes just as good.
the last line going towards the story of that day i wished for - this is a bit of a stretch but maybe he lost someone close to him and in his world hes telling a story where they had a different ending? since there was also a flash of who im assuming is that person that he lost. or something along those lines
edit: 1:24 lets vow to reunite, i dont want to look at just me in this moment - you can see someone in the meadow, presumably the same one mentioned in the last line. not sure what the i dont want to part means though. might be he doesnt want to be alone in his imaginary world
edit 2: 1:31 ive fallen in love, if i dye it in lightheartedness - again, something mightve happened on that day to the person in the meadow and in his imagination hes recreating a better version of it
edit 3: there seems to be 2 or 3 characters in the mv - the red haired boy, the white haired one and the dancer. at 2:44 you can see for a split second the white haired boy turns into the dancer. seeing as the red haired boy covers the white haired boy’s eyes, which might be him “going into” his imaginary world, the red haired boy is probably him in that world, and the white haired is him in real life. i have no idea what the dancer has to do with this.

Is it just me first time noticing it, or eve Subtitles just got way better
Agreed, the English translations got updated for sure. Same total idea, but a whole lot of the wording is different
The music this time is really interesting with all the old sounding drums utilized and the general pacing of it. With the vocalizing sections it really gives a traditional vibe.
Meanwhile, the video also obviously is saying something about that. All this juxtaposition between modern Japan and some old crumbled Japan full of nature, spirits and gods makes it clear there's some theme to it.
Also, like many of Eve's music videos, they focus on transformation of the self in a really neat way through that shifting pattern on the character. This one, like Tokyo Ghetto, seems to relate that change into some kind of relationship with a feminine figure, with the lyrics also tying into this idea of love changing someone. Though, again like Tokyo Ghetto, I almost wonder if the relationship is meant to be a literal or figurative thing. The way they play with the character transforming throughout the song while only getting small glimpses of the other "person" could just be from a lack of connection and searching for them literally, or it could be a metaphor for some kind of internal desire or love that causes changes.
The metaphorical reading could also explain the ending with the large god-like being, with the character achieving some kind of recognition or oneness as they complete this transformation before waking back in their real world (the first person stuff).
I love how there's always so much that could be read into in these music videos.

Well you could get something close to that; Eve also makes a manga that has a lot of characters from his vids and they tie into each other, with the manga explaining the lore more (because it’s a manga and not a music vid). The name is Kara no Kioku
Now this is my personal interpretation, but I think this is the story about a guy who is looking for his deceased girlfriend in the realms of dreams and realms of spirits. And MV basically ends with him discovering death spirit that promises to reunite him with her. Hence why wants to show no weakness and has his life flash in front of his eyes.

I feel this is very much intentional. The title more or less means 'Wandering in life, dreaming of death'. Life doesn't have a repeating chorus, it's just segments of different themes flowing into one another. The song makes you feel like you're wandering aimlessly in a dreamlike world, while carrying an indescribable melancholy in your heart. It's beautiful.

This song is so mystic sounding and absolutely beautiful. There has not been one time that I've listened to it and not gotten chills. The animation in it is also beyond stunning. I love pretty much everything about it. I want to know more of these characters, I'd love to see more. The song makes me feel happy, nostalgic, and melancholic all at the same time. i find it very interesting how at 0:54,, the lyrics said “the backchanneling doesnt seem to repeat” and at 0:55 when hes looking at the piano sheet,, we can see the : || symbol which in music pieces it represents a repetition¿ so basically whenever we see that symbol it means we have to repeat the piece from the beginning of the symbol which looks like ||: until the end of the symbol which looks like :||. therefore i think what theyre trying to say is that hes been repeating his actions, has came to the end and will start moving onto a new life/story
