  • Tricking a muskie into striking is HARD! It often takes tens of hours of dedicated casting, while simultaneously employing well thought out strategies, just to get a single fish to bite! But then you only have the mighty musky hooked! At this point you have only won half of the battle because the intense fight of the muskie is in large part what makes them so hard to catch. And a major part of the catching challenge is the netting process. Trying to net a muskie with your fishing partner takes communication, skill and determination to get the job done but netting a muskie while fishing solo.... well... now that is a different story!
    In this video I go into detail about the netting strategies and overall setup that works for me and allows me to net muskies consistently while fishing solo. Solo net jobs, especially on large muskies, are extremely difficult but with some practice and a well defined game plan you can increase your chances of ending with a touchdown!

    Phenomenal tips, this is probably the toughest thing to do in musky fishing for a variety or reasons.

      Yes Matt I would agree - probably the hardest part of the hunt is successfully netting them!

    Great video. Great information. I always have the net ready to go. I fish alone most of the time. I also have my release tools and everything else out and ready to go. I have never lost a fish netting by myself. One other thing to point out is to not lift the net too early. I see that alot when I watch other videos.

      Very true! It is easy to be tempted to go for the net too early. When I do that, I usually try to just lay it down in a safe spot.

    Definitely keep that musky low!!! I hooked into a nice low 40” fish which would have been my fourth musky and biggest musky and lost it right at the boat. I got too excited and the head came out of the water, it jumped, and I watched it disappear into the abyss.

      I have unfortunately seen that too! It is tough dude but it happens. Keeping the rod low and buried in the water is a big helper for keeping them hooked

    Thanks for the information! I can’t tell you how many times I netted the Muskie on the outside of the net. Complete chaos. I’ll train myself to hit the button. 🎣

      Rob for sure dude! I’m really glad you enjoyed this one! Yes, hitting the button has saved me on some challenging netting situations!

    Great tips, great video! Thanks, I love the educational content so much. I got my first big muskie while fishing solo this year, and the netting was definitely the biggest challenge. I did a couple of things wrong and it took 3 tries, but the couple of things that I did right that you touched on saved my day - I stayed calm and trusted that the fish was hooked well (it was, I had to cut hooks), and I had laid out the net, hook cutters, and pliers prior to making the first cast of the day, so it was all ready when the time came. Next time, I will be even better prepared and experienced.

      Dean that is SO awesome man!!! Sounds like you did an awesome job fighting and landing your first muskie!! It takes time to get better at it and there are so many different scenarios too. Really such an amazing sport!

    Been waiting for this one! Thumb on Free spool & tight line sooo important while you bend over to grab the net. Solo netting a big fish is so much harder than the fight! Finally experienced it with my PB this summer. Thanks for the educational tips Chas!

    GREAT GREAT teaching segment from a master teacher Beautiful Recon deck Bet that helps with netting. I see you don't keep a bunch of lose lures around the deck to step on or trip over as well. A lazy figherperson is a sad fisherpereson when the net activity fails. Keep em coming Love the channel

      Thanks Dave! Yes this one really is an important teaching topic for sure but it’s difficult to teach because it requires time on the water and practice to get better.

    I've actually had the best luck putting the net into the water when the fish is pointed away, that way they don't get spooked when it hits the water

    • @MuskyMastery
      @MuskyMastery  2 роки тому +1

      Yes they definitely get spooked by the net. Almost like a lot of them know they’ve “seen this before”

    I fish alone all the time because honestly I dont have friends that fish, and I have lost quite a few muskies from trying to fight and net them at the same time, its a challenge doing it solo. I seriously think it might be the hardest thing to do fishing wise.

    • @MuskyMastery
      @MuskyMastery  2 роки тому

      Rod, you are right on brother. Netting a fish solo, especially a large muskie, is incredibly hard. Many things need to go right and even though experience and making the correct moves and the right times is important, sometimes on the big dawgs you need things to go your way too. There are definitely things you learn over the years that helps to seal the deal. Thanks fro the comment!

    Great tips Chas do you ever watch how some of these guys handle these great fish so poorly? I have to bite my tongue on some of the handling techniques these guys use.

    • @MuskyMastery
      @MuskyMastery  2 роки тому +2

      Daniel yes I have seen some folks handle muskies poorly…. But I did one time when I was younger and didn’t know better. I think it is our responsibility to teach the new anglers entering our sport!

    Well done! So you're not supposed to hit the net handle on the seat and drop it into the water??
