  • A cooler than normal early-summer period can have muskie anglers scratching their heads and searching in all directions for hot bite but the answer to finding a "tight line" might surprise you! When water temperatures are cold for muskies (60's) I have found that a larger percentage of adult muskies take up residence in thick, slop, weed cover. So now we have the location figured out but.....what lure to throw in these snag-ridden places? A great lure to begin traversing slop cover would be a safety pin spinnerbait like JBO's Slopmaster.
I lean heavily on these lures as a tool to get into super-thick cover and present a lure to a hungry musky that otherwise will not get casted at. There are of course some tricks to correctly fishing spinnerbaits in thick slop weed cover - and that is precisely what this quick tips video is all about. I hope you learn something here and that you enjoy this video. Thank you for watching!

Speak of the devil ! So true, my brother just caugh one under similar circumstances in the cabbage weeds. A spectacular smash by the canoe. My net job could have been smoother but we got her.
    Great wisdom/solid content.

Great tips Chaz. Slop Master has been a great bait in smaller shallow rivers as well, as they become weed choked, as the season progresses. Thanks for sharing.

Got some nice pike hits on the Christmas tree tinsel slop master this year. Had a possibly pb rail it in front of me and when i set the hook, the lure flew out of its mouth sadly

I am sorry to hear that but at least you put yourself in position! You loose a little hookability with single hook lures...

@@MuskyMastery that trailer hook might have been the game changer there! My luck with bigger pike has been really bad though for years. Mostly a bass guy who sometimes throws out them ole bucher 500/700 inlines, slop spinners and top raiders when I'm on a musky lake or just going for a big gator:)
