BOSS ES-5 has trails options, input for one expression pedal which can be assigned to each loop as needed, or access to their Internal virtual expression pedal for swells or as a tremolo, assign it to an existing switch or to one of the 2 additional external foot-switch inputs… if you have a rig where you really like your pedals it’s a great option. I sold mine and just use an Hx Stomp due to its form factor.
maybe a little late to this video but Hotone has pedals to do this, vowpress is volume/wah in the same unit, they have another pedal soul press which is volume/expression
Nice video! My expression pedal is only expression (m-audio). I installed a toe switch in it, and now I can switch between wah and volume (or whatever) just be pressing down on the toe switch, which I find more convenient than hitting a button on the Stomp. It does consume both "devices" that are available through the aux jack, but it also leaves all 3 footswitches on the Stomp available for other uses. Also, you noted that you can save a block by manipulating the channel volume of your amp. Another block saving alternative would be to manipulate the volume parameter in the Output block. Since this one is at the end of the chain, it truly has no impact on your tone, where using channel volume might impact any effects that come later in the signal chain.

I need to be able to have two expression pedals - one for volume swells and the other to control various other parameters on the fly with my feet. How do you connect two different expression pedals and get them too work ( or will this only work of they are the same?) I have an M-audio expression pedal I have an Line 6 ex1 I have an Ernie ball volume pedal jr If I connect any one of these to the expression jack and assign them to expression pedal 2 any one of them works.
If I connect any two of these to the expression jack with a stereo TRS y cable - they either dont work anymore or one of them works but not as expected. I tried playing around in global settings with the inversion of the tip or sleeve. What am I missing? (Thanks for making theses tutorials, can be a huge time saver for new users)
Yes...mine was doing that too at first...if you have this same pedal, take off the back panel and make sure the bottom toggle switch is on "ring" not "Tip"
I just purchased a Jet MCX MIDI pedal and this same volume pedal and will be running a similar board setup. Question though. In another video about the MCX, I saw you mention that you can assign preset bank up and down on the JET MCX by going through FS4 & FS5 on the Stomp. Can I do that AND assign/run the Dunlop volume/expression through the expression input in the back of the Stomp? Just trying to figure out how to best setup the Jet MIDI and the volume/expression at the same time. Thanks and love the content!
Hello and thank you for video. I noticed that your expression pedal is controlling both EXP1 and EXP2. I have the same problem here. I thought something is wrong with HX Stomp setup. Basically one expression pedal should only control one of EXPs? Am I right? In your preset, expression pedal controls both volume and wah! Is there a way to disable one of the expressions in HX Stomp? Thanks.
I was using a TRS cable and had Tip to EXP 1 and Ring to EXP 2. You can set them to whatever you want in the global settings. 6:52 in the video is where I walk through how I have it.
In minute 5.00 you mention that you had problem with inconsistent expression pedal value between full heels and full toe, from 0 to 100 back to 0 again. I face same problem here. I already set the dip switch as yours but it keep happens. I use eventide H9 btw, with TS cable. Appreciate if you can suggest something on this, thank you
Great video! only thing i don't understand is the last part, I mean: you set different parameters for EXP1 and EXP2, does it mean that if only 1 expression pedal is connected with a TRS it's seen by the HX Stomp as 2 expression pedal with the exact same setting? (so also in the presets i can use exp1 or exp2 in the same way as they're the same actual pedal?) Otherwise I don't get the "exp1" and "exp2" labels in the Command Center, and moreover I don't get how could work 2 expression pedals connected with an Y cable :D
Yes! The HX Stomp sees it as 2 expression pedals...you just can't do both at the same time....meaning if you set one to be volume, you'll lose whatever the second feature is when the heel is down. If you use a spilt cable with 2 exp pedals, you just send commands to each pedal independently

Ok I love this! This is exactly what I have been wanting to do... Now small question.... Can I control the x mini and a single switch with a y cable? Considering I only need 1 exp for wah.. that should leave exp2 to be used for another stomp or some other parameter.. Esp when I incorporate a lol Robbie for my tap tuner/ snapshots. Any info would he awesome...
Nice video, bro! thaks for your job! I have quastion about latency. Can you feel difference between using volume pedal by regular analog way and as volume block at hx stomp?
that's a great question...I have not noticed. The sweep took a little getting used...plus I went from a larger Ernie Ball VPJR, down to the smaller Dunlop...so some of the difference was probably in the pedal itself.
I'm having a weird issue where the pedal works, but it doesn't register until halfway to heel down, then 0-100% occurs between that halfway point and all the way heel down. Any suggestions?
TRS Cable had the issue of being 0-100 by only moving the pedal half its total distance. When I used a TS Cable it worked fine: 0-100 hell to toe. I just had to invert the polarity of the tip. This was done by going to Global Settings > Preferences > Page 2 > Tip Polarity = Inverted. I did initially open the pedal and change the dip switch to Expression/Ring as indicated in this video.
is it possible to determine min and max values for parameters on the line6 hx one to control with an expression pedal? just like you control the bar underneath the knobs on the eventide h9
@@HeyWorshipLeader thats the most important thing that i want to know/learn how to do, another thing is just a personal taste id like to see how i can get metallic sounds with the delay, ping pong delay and reverb, everything on stereo, id like to use this pedal as an fx unit on a dj set on send/return
I just got a different brand of Expression pedal and man HX stomp is picky. I found using TRS with it, it had half the throw be EXP1 and the other half EXP2. The only way for me to fix this was to use a regular patch cable and ensure the expression out is ONLY set for exp1 and 2, no FS or preset or it triggers them endlessly. I am actually pretty upset as they declare its supported yet it really isnt. I knew I should have just invested in a mission pedal cause this is so much of a headache to get to work correctly. bah.
well since resolved my issue! Line 6 isn't really specific in that you should connect a pedal with TS ideally unless it is specifically supported. My pedal CLAIMS to use TRS or it wont work but that is false, I am able to get it to work 100% on a single regular patch cable and that is great cause that means I can use a splitter and have an extra dedicated switch no problem. Glad I was able to work out the kinks cause this is the smallest all metal expression I could get other then the DOD one.
I’m interested in the hx stomp to upgrade my worship rig but have a question if anyone could answer. Would I be able to use a mini 3 button foot switch to have 6 total buttons with the 3 on the stomp plus use my volume pedal plus some drive pedals and a mini midi control foot switch and then go direct out?
Question: which mini midi controller would you be using...because you could def cut out the 3 button foot switch. But to answer you're question...no. You can have a 2 button foot switch using FS4 and FS5, and run your volume pedal before or after your drives (not in the Stomp at all, or in the fx loop if you needed that for some reason) and then your midi controller via the midi in (and thru if you'll be sending midi signals out)

is it possible to determine min and max values for parameters on the line6 hx one to control with an expression pedal? just like you control the bar underneath the knobs on the eventide h9
Yes...And I just got another HX One of my own...and I want to do some tutorials...so let me know anything else you'd like to see as well!
Great video -- thank you. The background music is a distraction :)
Thanks! and noted
I need some hx stomp routing help. How can I reach out to you?
Sorry...just now getting to this. email me jimmy@heyworshipleader.com
Glad I was able to work out the kinks cause this is the smallest all metal expression I could get other then the DOD one.
glad you got it worked out man...I know it was frustrating for me at first too!
You can have a 2 button foot switch using FS4 and FS5, and run your volume pedal before or after your drives (not in the Stomp at all, or in the fx loop if you needed that for some reason) and then your midi controller via the midi in (and thru if you'll be sending midi signals out)
@@HeyWorshipLeader I’ve watched a ton of videos mainly yours and I think the jet micro the pre mapped one looks like the ticket for me! I’ve never done anything midi so this will be a new experience
Is anyone having issues with running a volume into the effects loop?
My volume goes from almost zero
anywhere in heel to almost toe.
Then there’s a sudden and loud rise in volume when I’m all the way to toe.
Sounds like you need to invert the polarity. Which vp do you have?
@@HeyWorshipLeader thank you so much for replying! I have the Dunlop mini (DVP4)
Thanks bro. This video help me a lot!!!
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching!
Very helpful. Thanks!
Спасибо!
Glad to help!
See the new Blackstar live logic midi controller.
will do
Great video! I learned a lot. Thank you man
That's great! Glad to help!
I'm an atheist and your video helped me out. Checkmate.
Pretty cool 😎,i think it’s going to help ,see I’m in a tight spot,my main goto amp is taking a dump ,well the tubes are i think god I hope otherwise that means something really bad has happened, anyways,it’s a line6 spider valve hk 2 hd 100 ,it’s kinda old but compared to a lot of !,! No Make it compared to everything else line6 has made in the last 20 years it completely blows the doors off and it makes me wonder O why o why did you guys stop making this it’s a 100 watt tube head with all the modulation built in,Plus my FBV foot controller station and yes it’s really a station has more control buttons on it than i could ever imagine using every single one, So what im getting at besides that and my 4x12 and the hx stomp I had way more modulation than I would ever need but now with my backup,A peavey valve king royal 8 that absolutely none of the connections ins and outs my line6 does I have totally rearranged everything from the ground up,and I use a vol, whammy, and pitch shifter ,was going to sacrifice the vol but after watching your video I may give that a shot ,I just know ,well I’m pretty positive the FBV floor control is not going to work, the cord that hooks up to that looks exactly like the one going into your Wi-Fi router,I will look into it but I’m pretty certain no way , anyways if you got any ideas on how I could lighten my load with the stomp it would be greatly helpful, thanks, great vid btw
I bet that FBV hook up is a printer USB connection and will work with the HX stomp. The Stomp is a great solution for sure
I like the content of this alot but you are setting a bad example with the over powered drill, In fact you don’t even say screwdriver before you take a drill to it you just say OK good thing I’ve got a drill some people might not be very technical and this is extremely bad example to show them
I admit that's true...next time I'll redeem myself!
