- I finally made up my mind and picked out the color for the Kyosho Turbo Optima so it has been completed. I really like the Revie RC undertray (eBay link below to Revive RC). Not a sponsored video, just thought it was a great product and you all might want one for yourself!
I got the mini Hotshot and the mini Lunch Box completed, both are super cool! Thank you to @theoagrc for mini Hotshot and the cool chocolates!
You guys are all awesome and I appreciate all the great comments and questions from everyone. Really enjoying talking to you all in the comments section.

Thanks Bob! I had a good time putting the little ones together, they are nice and relaxing to mess with. I am really happy with the Optima. I wanted to go red just because it looks so good on the box but I also wanted it to look different, I am glad I went with the look different route! The cobalt green looks great and the painting/masking all worked out well. I have to glue the tires so i can go out and drive it, I did forget about that!

Thank you Jeremy!! I am really happy I went with the green, it was a hard choice as the red looks so nice but it turned out great! The paint job is 80% prep and masking, 20% not rushing it and making sure not to flood it with paint!!! I love the looks of the little minis, they are so perfectly scaled down bodies on them! The studio is now feeling like it is a place to be working and recording in, finally! LOL!
The optima looks awesome. You really knocked it out the ball park with the green. You can't beat a Yorkie bar to fill that gap😂👍👍
Thanks Craig! I was a bit unsure at first with the green but I am really happy with the results. I think this kit would probably look good in almost any color, they just look good! The Yorkie bar was a nice treat!
@@AddamsPlayground Your right there Addam, the Optima would look great in any colour. I'm thinking of painting mine I. A deep red backed with gold flake to compliment the cold chassis & wheels. If you get chance you should try a double decker ( another UK treat )😀 ther really nice ( you will want more than one ) 😆😆.
The Turbo Optima looks great! I don't usually like that color of green, but it really works with all the gold and white wheels.
Thank you! I had a hard time going away from the red of the box art but I am very glad I did. It does go well with the overall look of the buggy and now it is a bit more special! I was in the hobby shop getting the reds to try and this one kind of spoke to me so I grabbed it just in case and it was a good choice! I have to glue the tires on (totally forgot I had not yet) and it will get out for a run!

First of all, oh Addam, I loved your description of the first try of the Turkish Delight! I sure wish I could have seen your face, I just knew it would surprise you!!! :P
Great to see the little rigs finished, they really do look cool and cute! As for the Optima, boy that is super-sweet! You nailed that paint job, I need to copy that colour combo on something too! Glad you put a slide show up at the end so we could have a proper look! Take care dude! :O)
LOL! It was a good mix of shock and confusion! I have never had anything like that and it was far from what I was expecting! Good though, after the first bite and my tiny little brain as able to process all that new data! I do love these little minis, it is like a little side quest of the RC fun! I was also nice to do some hand painting for a change rather than masking and spraying! I had plenty of that to do on the optima! I ditched the precut masks that came with the kit, I did use the window masks. It was easier for me to mask it all free hand and not to try and mess around with the precut stuff! You should totally paint something in this color in the future, it looks great! It goes on very quickly too, it doesn't take a whole can to get full coverage! Take care mark and next time you see it, it will be out driving around!

Thanks Wayne! I am in love with the paint on the Optima. I was having a very hard time figuring out if it was going to be red or something else. As I assumed, it came down to which one I picked up to go out and spray one the body! I am very glad I went with the cobalt green and I will be using this on other kits in the future.
The candies were good and yes, gone! I did have a bit of a sugar high going on by the time I got that little Hotshot built! I asked my shop about stocking them and I got a puzzled look from them like they never heard of them so I don't think I will be seeing any show up at mine! LOL!

We're going to phone our shop tomorrow but I'm expecting they will be puzzled, I have a feeling the mini's might take off if shops stock them, they're not expensive and look great in a collection but I could be wrong.
Hopefully next week I'll be able to get wrenching mate, we have plenty to do and catch up on 😁👍
I like the cobalt green a lot and the Tamiya JRs are very cool. You did an excellent job on the Optima. You should be proud of your work. I am interested to see how it runs. Also, your gourmet taste test of the candy was fun.
Thanks Michael! These little Tamiya Jr cars are a nice little side project here and there. I had a hard time not painting the Optima red but I am glad I went with the cobalt green, it really makes it look like a different version of the buggy or something. It turned out really nice and other than a few tiny flaws (all of them have at least one!) I am very happy with it. I have to get the tires glued on, I had forgotten until I remembered in the middle of the night! I will get it out for a run very soon, I got the track all cleaned up yesterday evening just for it! The candy was tasty but the Turkish delight did get me at first! It took a few moments for my tiny brain to figure out what was going on!

Fantastic paint job on the T Optima Addam! You gave me flash backs with that Turkish Delight bar though. That's what family and friends would give us when they visited our place here in Australia. It was our most hated chocolate bar but we were too polite to say anything so they just kept on coming.😢

I was expecting a soft center but more like a candy bar center and not the jelly that it is! I did like it but I can see as a kid being kind of grossed out by them! It is kind of funny you were cursed by a chocolate treat as a kid, not a normal childhood issue! Good job for not ruining the enjoyment of others though!
Awesome work with your Optima. The turquoise looks really refreshing. You got me envious of your hotshot jr because I totally forgot to paint the black parts on mine. And your lunchbox jr is so cute, definitely keeping an eye for that the next time I go to the Tamiya shop.
Thank Terence! I had a hard time not painting it the red like on the box but I am really glad I tried this as I love it! I was thinking the little hotshot was going to be just assemble and putting the stickers on, I was wrong! The black pain does help it look more like the big brother! I just used a brush and the Tamiya X18 paint to do mine, it called for spraying it with a TS black but I was not going to tape off all those tiny areas! much easier with the brush! The little lunchie does make me smile! It is so adorable!

Thanks Thad! I really kept wanting to play it safe and go with the red but I am very glad I tried something different. While not completely original I do like the look of it and it makes it a little special. I have to glue the tires on so I can get it out for a run (I remembered I had not in the middle of the night!) So as soon as those are done I am getting it out for a drive!
They all look great. The mini Hot Shot is cool. I’m fighting the urge to buy more of them. I love the cobalt green on the Optima. Works well on it
Thanks! I am glad I went with the green over the red. I struggle with choices, it takes forever to make up my mind, like that but I am glad it turned out so cool looking! I love the little juniors, they are fun little side projects (like I need more distractions!) and they are cheap!. I am going to try and keep them to a minimum but if I see a cool one pop up then I am gonna snag it!

Thanks Dirk! I love the way the optima turned out. I kept wanting to play it safe and stick with the red but I am glad I went with the green instead! Now I kind of want the Javelin with the mint green cage to go with it 😂!! I remembered in the middle of the night I had not glued the tires on yet so I have to do that today and then I will get it out for a run. Might be this weekend's video, I am so far behind on recording it is sad!! It will be soon though!!
@@AddamsPlayground glueing tires is essential for the Kyoshos. They have a highter gear ratio than most of Tamiya's on-roaders.
@@RCBirds Very true and usually softer compound tires as well so they are more likely to come off from both the softness and the speed! I thought I had done it but remembered last night I completely forgot to do it! At least I remembered before blowing one off the wheel out there!

Thanks Pete! I think it may be the same color that Andy runs on his cars. From the tiny can lid I was not 100% sold on it but once I got it on a bigger surface I really do like it a lot! I am happy I went with something besides the red.

Hi there Addam, I’m so glad you liked some of the iconic chocolate bars from the UK, out of the two, the Turkish Delight would have been my choice at the sweat shop. And oh boy! The Kyosho Turbo Optima in that cobalt green looks fantastic! I really like that colour choice. I think I’m going to get some for a future project. Amazing job. So wish that I can one day have a Kyosho Beetle to my collection. Best wishes to you all 😊😊
Hi John! The chocolates were both good, the TD did catch me off guard a little but once my brain processed what was going on I was good! I do love the cobalt green color, I am very happy I did not chicken out and just go with box art on it. It is nice to have something a little unique every now and then! The Beetle is a great looking kit, I am not a huge fan of it in the yellow but black with the cobalt green racing stripes would look really nice!! I hope you get one for yourself, one of the days I will too!

Thank you Mark! I am really happy with the way the optima turned out. I really had a hard time not painting it red but this color jumped out at me in the shop so I picked it up just in case. I have been staring at it for weeks trying to figure out which way to go. I went to paint and decided to not be a chicken and try it out! I am glad I did!
I liked both of the chocolates, the Turkish Delight texture got me on the first bite but after that I was good. Obviously I am a fan of the sweets so I don't find too many I don't like LOL!!!
The studio is starting to feel more at home and I will continue to work on a few things to improve it as we go along.

Thank you! It is starting to feel good down there. It has come a long way from the dark dusty corner it was!!! I love the gran on the buggy, it was a last minute call to go away from the red but I am glad I did. I should have the run video of it out very soon!

I did remember in the middle of the night last night I forgot to glue the tires so I still have to do that before I run it! I had a great time with the Hotshot Jr and it does look really nice all done! The chocolates were really cool and once I got over the first bite of the Turkish delight I enjoyed both of them a lot!
Great job! Never seen it in cobalt. Does compliment the car. The studio is looking great as well. I know what it’s like to be busy. Thank God I film in advance or I wouldn’t have had any vids up the past week.

I seem to stay just a little behind where I want to be all the time recently. That's why no video went out this weekend, I was down there working on these things to get some stuff done! One of these days I will get caught back up, I hope you get some more time as well. It is the catch 22, work pays for the toys but the work also gets in the way of playing with the toys!
Hey the Turbo Optima looks fantastic Addam. Love that colour. The little Tamiya's look very cool too. Good to see that you are carrying on the taste tests. Turkish Delight is a traditional sweet from Turkey and it isn't covered in chocolate but is dusted with icing sugar. The Turkish Delight you have there was a British sweet from the 70's (or before) where they had the great idea to chocolate coat it. I like it but many do not, a bit like Marmite 😁

It was a shock, texture wise, it was not what I was expecting! I liked it though, but then again I liked the Marmite too! LOL!

Thanks Pez! I love these little minis, they are so well done to shrink them down but retain so much detail! The Optima I am very happy with and glad I went with the different color. The Turkish Delight was a surprise! I was expecting something like a soft chewy center and not the unique jelly center. once I got past the initial bite I liked it but my little brain had a small fit trying to figure out that first bite!!

Me too! I got the track all cleaned up and ready to go. I did remember in the middle of the night I had not glued the tires on yet so I have to get that done today so I can get out with it! It is so quite and smooth on the bench, I hope that carries over to the run. It is my first belt drive car so it is new to me!

Thanks Bryan, it all seems to go together really nice and I love all the gold! The green and white I was very hesitant to do and wanted to play it safe with the box art red and white. I am glad I wet with the bolder move as I love the way it turned out!
Addam, that Yorkie is awesome... and I love Turkish Delight.. it is a very 'marmite' type 'candy'... i love it but it is far too 'floural' for some..

Thank you, I love the green and white combo with the black and gold of the chassis. I am glad I didn't play it safe and go with the red even though I did test to see which reds looked best. I made the last minute call and I think it was a good one! The chocolates were both good, the texture of it threw me off at first but once my little brain figured that out it was smooth sailing!

Ha ha the mini lunch box looks cool!! The optima looks sharp! I love my Javelin only gripe I have with it is when I ran it in the ball feild sand got inside on the belts.... I never liked belt driven RC's they always caused me problems I prefere shaft drives.. I think maybe the chain option may have been better than the belt on the kyoshos because dirt can get in on them? who knows. anyhow nice build. 👍👍
The mini kits are just too much fun! I am hopeful that with the undertray on here things will stay a lot cleaner and I won't have any issues with stuff getting inside the drivetrain. I can see it being a big issue with the Javelin as it is so exposed to everything, it does look awesome like that though! I was kind of surprised when I got this one that they give you the gears to use with the chain drive but the chain has to be purchased separately... I have to get the tires glued on (i forgot) and I will get it out for a spin. I got the track all cleaned up yesterday evening!

Thanks Paul! I am very happy I did not chicken out and just go with the box art. I like this color on it a lot! Yes, you heard a flush coming down the pipes. Problems I did not have in the garage. I cracked up when I was editing as I didn't even notice when I was recording! My wife was to blame! I am glad someone asked, nobody else said anything until now. I thought it was perfectly timed when I tilted the buggy up, it happened. It made me laugh so I kept it in there!!

It sucks that you had let that one go< i have a couple that I regret selling in the past, mainly my original Traxxas Sledgehammer! Like you said, it is life. I wouldn't be upset if you went and got a new one to build to replace it! LOL!!

The cobalt green looks incredible! Great job 👍🏼 Wish I had seen that before I bought the red paint for mine 😂 I wanted to go with something a bit different to box art but couldn’t decide on a colour so in the end went with metallic red with a base coat of pearl clear to give it a bit of a sparkle.
Thanks Richard! I was hesitant to do it in the green and was leaning towards the red box art just because it looks so nice. I am glad this color jumped out at me when looking at the paint display in the hobby shop. I really like the way it turned out! I was going to pair it with the pearl white but they did not have any and with my track record recently of buying too much extra stuff when paint shopping I decided to stay home and use what I had on hand instead of going back into the hobby shop to see if they had restocked! It seemed like a budget friendly way to go! LOL!

Awesome video Addam. Those minis came out awesome! They really look like a lot of fun to me! Your Studio is really looking great too as I noticed those shelves filling up nicely. Are all your cars, trucks and Buggys coming to the new studio? just wanted to let you know that Kyosho is amazing, truly outstanding! I do love the colors you chose for this! Another cool thing i never noticed about this car is the rear shock cut outs on the body shell. they really accentuate it think. Allways liked these Buggys, but never noticed before! Probably the white paint didn't hide it so much! LOL! Great to see Spring coming, and hopefully a little extra leisure time! That raisin chocolate bar kinda reminds me in your description of a "Chunky" bar that we have here in the states! Well, All the best to ya bro, Til next time my friend!
Thank Robby! Yeah the little Juniors are fun, make great little display pieces and a cheap little side project every now and then (prices run between $13-18 plus a maybe a paint color or two) The studio is coming along and getting a little more finished all the time. It is finally getting there! Only part of the cars are comping inside, I will rotate things around more often now to change up the look so it is not always the same stuff behind me! The Optima turned out really nice and I am glad I did not chicken out and just go with the box art, I really like the green and white! That split body design carried through a fair amount of their cars before this one, some of them more pronounced than others but the Raider, the Pegasus, the regular Optima and a few others share this trait. They finally got away from it and went to more traditional style for most of the buggies are this one. The bodies were prone to splitting around that area, same with the Tamiya Falcon. Spring is definitely here for us, the cars are covered in pollen and everything is exploding outdoors! I do remember the chunky bar and I know I have eaten one but do not remember what it tasted like. Now I am going to have to find one if they are still around! Take care bud!

Great job on the baby hot shot and lunch box..... and 10/10 on your very accurate description of a Turkish delight, you nailed it!
And, just look at that turbo optima!!
Loving the green, in fact, I actually prefer it to the red!
I've just bought a second body for mine as I split the original one on my first run of it..... may just do the new one in a similar green!
Be careful, the lexan is very weak on those shells, especially around the rear end and front body post area.... Best to try to avoid flipping them mate!
Carbon fiber upper plate and revive rc undertray are great upgrades.
I've also had to order new gold motor cover and chassis plate due to some nasty scratches..... that gold finish looks great on the shelf, but in reality isn't very practical (so good call on the undertray)
I didn't fit the driver, I found space was very limited once all the electronics were fitted.... but seeing yours it really does finish it off a treat!
You've guna love driving this thing matey, its so smooth, and handles devine. I think it will do very well on your track!

I did take it out the other day along but had issues with it (radio issues) which have now been resolved. So I will try to get it back out and finish the run video for it. It does drive amazingly well and looks and sounds great out there! I do not plan on driving this one to often but the added protection of the undertray should really help keeping in good shape! I have seen it done and I thought it looked sharp. I may have seen yours in a past video, my memory is about as long as my attention span for stuff like that! LOL! I grabbed the paint when in the hobby shop as a just in case color and I am glad I decided to do it this way, it looks great!

The optima colour is better than the red for sure . Love it . Tempted myself now . Just finished the optima and the body was a decal nightmare and it’s started to crack above the rear shock towers so maybe reinforce that area mate as this looks similar . I’ve already ordered a new body for it . 👍
Thanks! I was very hesitant to do anything but the red color since it s iconic to the car. I am glad I wet ahead and tried the cobalt green, I like it a lot! It is a very neat color and look great with the white and black of the rest of the body. The cracking at the rear is common for a lot of their bodies as they have that similar design feature to them. It was a cool look to have them so snug to the chassis and exposing the shocks but it does create a weak spot in the shell. I made sure there were not stop/start cut marks of jagged edges around that area to try and help it not begin to tear. This one won't get run too hard but it is a good thing to smooth those top arches out the best you can.

@@rc-dom-uk Yeah some E6000 or Shoe-goo and some fiber tape or just some of the Tamiya foil/fiber tape will help keep it from getting worse.

The turbo optima is gorgeous u oh d rather have that colour scheme than the iconic red , ivv B am biased though to cobalt green as i tend to use it a lot. Lovey work Addam and a beautiful buggy by kyosho.

I knew the color would get a stamp of approval from you! I know it is one of your go-to ones! The red is exactly that, iconic but I did want to do something different and I am glad I did! I just got in from the first run and it ran really well... until it didn't.... I seem to have an receiver or ESC issue I have to figure out. I will tinker with it tomorrow, to annoyed at the moment to mess with it, mostly cuz I was just starting to have fun with it and it went wonky! It happens!
There is a constant to-do list but I keep digging the hole! I think I have 5 cars to tear into and get running and then a couple to build and more on pre-order. It is good problem to have honestly but I feed it too fast sometimes!

The Yorkie is very good, a nice mix of things to be put together. The TD was shocking as I expected normal candy bar filling or something and was not expecting the jelly inside. Once my little brain understood what was going on the rest of it was fine, that first bite was very confusing! LOL!

G'day mate gee Tamiya Hotshot Jr looks heaps different to how they were back mid 80s the newer one doesn't look right thank God the 1/10 hotshot hasn't got ugly wheels like the Jr. Sorry mate not complaining about how it was built but how it was designed the older versions were a lot more realistic looking. Loved the video mate 👍👍
I did wonder why they went with a spoked wheel instead of the signature wheels of the real buggy. It still looks cool sitting on the shelf and it has a cool body! I do like the Lunchie and need to get the sides painted in silver, can't believe I missed that but its a minor thing! Take care bud!

Thank you James! I am very glad I went with the green and white instead of the red and white box art. It would have still looked good but I like the different look in the green! These can be chain drive, I have it set up for belt drive. They give you the sprockets for the chain drive to put on the diffs but the chain itself is a hop up part. I didn't understand that at all but would have probably gone with the belt anyways for the ease of maintenance and the quite, smooth running of the belt.
@@AddamsPlayground Those were originally chain drive. I guess they gave the rere a belt, because it's much more reliable.
@@rcinhand9671 yeah, still odd you get the drive sprockets in the kit but have to buy the chain separate. Seems silly to give you half of an option! 😂
Addam don't get involved in the jr mini 4wds is my advice! They become very addictive! Iol sold mine now to just feed money into the main hobby! I had a big collection of then in the end.

LOL! Fair, I can see where you can really dive into a rabbit hole with the little ones. I am just going to get the ones of the classics and other popular kits as I see them. I promise no hunting on eBay or paying more than base retail pricing for them! I am really happy with the Optima, I am glad I went with the different color choice. I really wanted to go red since it looks so good on the box but also want this one to be unique, well as unique as it can be in a Tamiya color! I know they have been done like this but this one is mine so it is special to me! LOL! Thanks as always and and take care James!

Optima looks bigger without body.
It is probably since the chassis is so narrow that the suspension arms sticking out so far make it look bigger without the body. It is a very sleek and compact thing overall.
Quick question: why do people put their RCs on little stands or racks and not just rest on the wheels?
Since I have so many of them they tend to sit in one place for long periods of time in between me driving them around. This prevents flat spots from forming on the tires. If you run them often it is not something you should have to worry about but there are some I have not run in a year or more so sitting that long in one spot can ruin the tires from the weight slowly smooshing them flat. I know some folks that have a routine of rotating the tires monthly to prevent them, I am not great at doing stuff like that so this works better as I don't have to remember to rotate tires.

I almost painted it box art but wanted something different. I get bored of doing everything box art all the time so a change happens from time to time. It is nice to have something more unique than the same one everyone else has. But the red is really nice.
