I'm about... 21 months late to the D12 party, but what a party! I've never felt so good wrenching on such a cheap kit! The mods arrive daily, the paint's drying, lipos charging - but thanks to this video, I know it won't be done until: Weather-stripping, rubber bumpers for the bed, and headlight buckets get some love. Thanks for all you do!

Cool vid. Nice upgrades. I bought one of these for my niece and nephew to play with, they love it. It's copped quite a bashing and looks a little rough but is still going strong.

Many years a go, suzuki and vauxhall created a van version called the Bedford Rascal. I drove one and it was let's say entertaining, frustrating and scary. But... I fell in love with it. The tyre part reminded me of the ones on the van, and they were Goodyear Grand Prix S heavy duty. I think they were a 13x175 size. I love these little vans and currently am without work due to covid, but I may partake in one when I have money. Keep on going with it, its great.

a few rounds of paper tape on the rear wheels makes it pretty slippery but still fast and i got pretty good at drifting it around its so fun
Yeah that makes them a lot more drift-able! I seem to go the other way and make them more grippy but the way it can slide is still so cool.

You are the first one that cleverly used that port to power all the other LED's. I was really wondering if there would be sufficient current to power them all. If possible, just let us know if it affects battery time.

Great! Do you use a primer first, to paint on the plastic or use normal model kit paint?
I always use primer with enamels but paint right onto the plastic with lacquers.

I coat the backs in liquid electric tape. i show that in E33....its my secret weapon lol

@AMpro engineering can you explain further about what LEDs and stuff was used to to wire the lights up? What kind of paint for the gaskets?
Check out episode 33 for LED info. I cover it all there. In fact, I was supposed to insert a card! As for paint, all I use is testors. For the gaskets it was Testors flat black. Really good stuff.

The Wheels shouldn't be hard for you to fix. The Tires are a GREAT idea!!
I have a few but this is pretty good out of the box.
budget fast: a 2 dollar 280 motor with a 9t 0.5 modulus pinion to omit the first counter gear in the drive. its about 40% higher gear ratio, the 280 is about 20% more rpm and 75% more torque than the stock 260. its pretty nice for drift, nice for speed with traction tires.
did you know? 1/12 scale foam donuts fit Fayee rims with the tire beads ground off.
(did away with the outer 3 with last bead left to push the tire up against)
result = on road tires that "poke" about 6 mm, about 1/2" wider total, very high traction with Jaco red compound front donuts for all 4. recommend a JJRC rear axle with a differential if going the on road car style, it'll corner much better, the live axle can cause tire chatter when you have traction cornering.
just the 280 motor using all the gears is quicker by itself, the torque can spin traction tires pretty easily. with 1st counter gear omitted its faster and not breaking loose so easily. the one here is set up to drift, 280 with gear omitted, full body kit, front torsion wires un-pinned, some camber and toe out, the taller gearing lets it drift longer sweeps on a smooth surface.
there are "52,000 rpm BLACK motor" they charge a lot for, the inexpensive neutral brush timing 280 with the counter gear out is plenty fast enough without pulling a ton of current through the stock ESC it came with.

Wow that would be something! This thing does lack torque for sure....it seems to hate big inclines. More juice would be good.
Eyeballing the straight lines is pretty amazing but if you eyeballed the angled pieces, then my mind is blown

Great question. Even though this is a 1/10 and should fit a 6", they are way too hard to squeeze in there. Go for a 5" and it will be much easier.
Have you had a look at those unlocked diffs yet? Interested to know how it affects the handling

yup, older JJRC axle will slip right in for easier cornering.

The little frog is from a vending machine in Korea. The transmitter will be on shapeways soon!

Those are metal and usually painted white according to images.

For the set I made, yes. It seems that unless WPL makes a kit for this then you will need to solder something.

NEED HELP WITH MY D12: I upgraded my D12 to all metal chassis, 370 motor and metal trans and upgraded suspension. If I put any kind of load on the motor, either the radio completely loses its signal to the truck (headlights flash) until I re-bind OR the truck suddenly loses signal until I stop the load w/o making me re-bind It does not do this at all if I have no load on the truck by holding it off the ground. This is real annoying and I'm wondering if I was supposed the remove the capacitor off the old 260 motor and solder it onto the 370? Any ideas why it's doing this? BTW... I'm asking this question on several D12 videos so sorry if you see my question elsewhere. I'll try to remove it when this issue is resolved.
So for me, this happens under a high load or low battery. First, if there is excessive drag in the system, the current draw will spike and the system will use the cut out to prevent damage to the electrical. Secondly can you confirm the battery is charged or even good anymore? If the battery is bad, it wont have the current/voltage needed and the esc will think the battery is dying. Less likely is a bad motor. You can take the motor out and see if it works without being attached to a gear box to test it out. Changing the cap wont do anything but you could unsolder one side to, once again, make sure that the cap isnt a dead short or something. Hope it helps.

Such a kool truck but I would love to put off road tires. But it’s not an off road truck. Even being a trail truck would be kool. But the D-12 is a on road drift truck.😢. But for the money it’s soooo worth getting. It’s so popular.
You can put this body on the C24 chassis but you needs to adapt it.
