I'm a newby sewing with industrial sewing machines. You cleared up the bobbin placement and thread direction for me. Thank you very much for taking the time to video your Juki. I appreciate you.
Thanks for posting! I purchased the LU562 from a lady who retired from making curtains with it. I've had the motor replaced with a Servo motor to go slower for my specific needs. The video helped me learn how to thread it properly.
I believe the long slot on the needle should go on the outside (left) and should be threaded from left to right. The 'half moon' cutout on the other side of the needle should be towards the bobbin. That's how all industrial machines I've worked on are set up, and other videos of the LU 563 show it this way.
Excellent video! -- QUESTION -- Just getting into these machines and love the LU 563 and alos the Consew 206RB. One feature though, the zigzag stitch is missing from both. Don't understand why high quality machines don't have this... Is zigzag not popular or not good?? Are there versions of these two that offer iti?
The needle was absolutely inserted incorrectly early in the video. The long groove faces left and the “scarf”, the notch above the eye of the needle, faces right. If the needle is inserted backwards, the tip of the hook will hit the needle as it rotates around and cause a burr on the hook. It will also make the thread shred and break.
Couldn't see it in the video if that is true. He might of said it wrong and put the needle in right. The pressor foot he stated is actually the treadle. Or foot treadle. The pressure foot as stated by others is the rear foot that just goes up and down. Weird this guy. Either hasn't been taught right or was forgetful etc.
As said before......needle install completely backwards. Doing this and sewing on a correctly timed machine and you’ll need to replace the needle at least, and possibly the hook. If anyone doubts me or others....look up how to time the hook and needle in maintenance manual...or look at others posting the procedure on youtube. You will see that the hook passes through the scarf cutout just above the eye on the upward stroke of the needle bar. If you do it this knuckleheads way, and it’s timed correctly, you’ll likely have your hook repeatedly crashing into the grooved side of your needle causing undue damage to to needle and hook. The lesson is only as good as the teacher......and I pity those who learn from this teacher.
I helped my buddy make this video to be graded by Penn State. He was starting out to be an instructor for Local 255 Carpenters. I'm proud to say that a year later he has influenced hundreds of apprentices who will go on to be the among the best mechanics in the country
I purchased a juki LI 563 and the needle was already in it. Position of it was the opposite of how you said to install it and it sewed great. Unfortunately I broke my first needle and I thought I’ll install the new one the way you explained. I did and when I started sewing a sample vinyl, somehow it did not catch the bobbin thread. I reinstalled it the way I had it and it worked fine. My comment is not to correct you, but rather want you to explain if you can why should it be “one way and not the other” I only have about three hours of sewing all my life, but I did manage to repair my boat canvas. Overall, video is great.
Thanks for the tip about lubricating the bobbin area! My (new-to-me) old machine was acting up and I was fixing to throw in the towel and take it to the shop.
I have a most prized possession in my shop - my 30+ year old Juki 562 small bobbin. Incredible technology and rarely misses a stitch or jams. RAM Leatherwork
What you state at around 10:15 is the pedal. It is not the presser foot. The presser foot is what you described earlier. that works on top of the fabric with the walking foot.
I had 7 juki 563 running 30 hours a wee for 36 years. had very little problems because i oiled them constantly. your missing the sponge soaked in oil under hook gears. i didn't see you oil all around the needle bar and feet bar guides.
Thank you for your video...best there is. I really need a step by step, 'dummies guide' to changing the stitch length. I have tried everything and don't want to damage anything...please help.
I cannot believe you told everyone to put the needle in BACKWARDS. The kerf in the needle matches the point of the hook, which is on the bobbin side. That "long slot" is for catching the thread as you slide it down toward the Eye of the needle, from left to right.
William Carr maybe you should go back and read your manual! The flat side of the needle faces left so that the set screw can tighten against it. I believe it is page 6 line 6 of the manual. No your facts before you make stupid public comments!
@@granstrachan3852 Sorry to tell ya bud, but yeah, that needle is the wrong way around. The cut out is so the hook on the bobbin shuttle, doesn't make contact with the needle, as it passes the needle and catches the top thread. Will still sew like that but sounds fucking horrible. Can hear the hook hitting the needle in the video.
@@granstrachan3852 135 x 17 needles do not have a flat side. They are round shank. If you have a flat side on your needles, you're not using the right system.
When setting up the bobbin for winding you have to put it through the thread tensioner on the bobbin wonder. Also when your work has oil all over it you know you have over oiled your machine.
Can you use any bobbins that are smaller than the one the machine came with? I have a LU 55 model and hard to find anything that is specific to that model. It also says benz on it not juki
Great video , thanks. I just bought a used 563 that looks almost unused, I oiled machine completely, but it seems very rough and not smooth while running, dose it need to be timed or something? When I rotate by hand it feels smooth. Kind of jack hammering under power if you know what I mean. Help appreciated. Thanks
Probably due to the needle being installed incorrectly in this video....as the incorrect way that the teacher tells you to install the needle. This Will certainly cause the hook point to crash repeatedly into the non scarf side (the grooved side which doesn’t have the scarf cutout for the hook point to clear the needle) of the incorrectly installed needle. Immediately remove the needle and install it with the scarf towards the bobbin side (right side) and see if that choppiness goes away. If you ran this way for anytime... I would replace the needle for sure and if problems like broken thread, or thread shredding, I would replace the hook with an original equipment one. Scarf towards hook....every time.

I'm using a Juki LU 563 and I've set the tension according to this and other very clear youtube tutorials, it will sew perfectly for up to quite a while and then suddenly I hear and feel a loose rattling, my material (leather) bunches under the foot and it looks like the bottom thread tightly pulls the material at the same time causing a rat's nest. If you are using your machine everyday.....only need to oil it probably twice a week. If using every so often.....oiling once every 2-3 weeks is fine. If the machine is over oiled.....it will stain the fabric you will sew with.

You could try adding more tension to the top thread. Sometime if it is too loose a bump will form on the bottom as too much top thread is pulled through.
The oil reservoir is missing from under this machine. The excess oil catchment pan is there but no reservoir. Without the reservoir the oil pump will be sucking air and the machine will not last long under hard use. (A retired Upholsterer) This is a great machine!
