    This tutorial is SOOOO well illustrated. UA-cam should make your video part of a required lesson for anyone else wanting to put up a "how to" video. Well done.

    I just bought a Juki LU-563. Your video was super helpful. I had very mismatched forward and reverse stitch lengths, but I have the machine with the lock pin underneath. It turns out you can adjust the handle position relative to the rod and adjust your forward / reverse ratio that way. My handle was way off center. Then I used the spacer screw on the "redundant" part you removed to fine tune the forward / back. Works like a champ now. Thanks again.

    your video was excellent, being able to see a machine works is priceless, Once I understood how the different parts worked with each other it was a whole bunch easier to repair. if I can understand how it works and the setting I can usually fix it. You hit all the high points to set the machine. .It is rare to find somebody who has been there and done that. Is willing to share his experience. Excellent is an understatement. But thanks for your time. Thank you personally Allen

    UWE, your sharing this developed (experience) and knowledge in a dimminishing service world for things "mechanical" is so VERY appreciated....In a matter of minutes I straighten-ed out my 563, now sewing beutifull as it should. YOU are a mechanical genious, and not too bad at putting it into video...(chuckle)...smiling

    Your videos are the best, ever, hands down. I was able to make my feet adjust equally, but I'm not too confident to set the maximum foot lift on my singer 111w .... I am not read to play with those internal screws on the singer that my manual says I need to adjust without seeing someone else do it... so for now I'll be happy with the foot lift I currently have now that it's equal!

    Awesome video. I have watched it several times and now my juki 562 is stitching almost perfectly. My problem is on canvas im getting 4.5 stitches per inch but when i go to vinyl it jumps up to 7 or 8 stitches per inch. When i switch feet i am getting about 8 stitches per inch on canvas. Does anyone clue me in on whats happening? Thank you in advance

    Do you have any videos on the oiling process for these machines? I watched this video and I'm going to try to adjust my stitch length. Just got this machine, it sews but I believe it needs some adjusting. I've oiled it on all the red markings, but didn't quite understand about the oiling underneath. Said something about oil pan.... I'm hoping you have another great video on oiling that will make it all look simple, like this one does! Your great! Thanks!

    Hi. Thanks for the video. I have a question. After setting my machine up as per the video, i could get a decent stitch length. About 5 stitch max. Then after usung it some, the stitch length dropped down to about half. I turned the stitch length back to zero, but i noticed that there was now horizontal motion in the feet. What should i check to fix this problem? Please help!!!!

Is it ok to use degreasers in the machine? I want to give it a full clean and service before I use it!

    How can you adjust the mechanism to release the thread tensioner when you lift the foot. In my machine, when you lift the foot the tensioner does not release the tension. I checked and the rod that pushes the tensioner does not protrude far enough.

    One my Juki LU-563 in order to match forward and reverse stitch you have to drive out a small pin that is next to the screw you loosen. LOOKS like the factory tried to make that setting semi permanent. Thanks for tge videa. You should set up a Patreon account.

    Hi Uwe, thank you for your videos. I've referenced them many times! Do you have any guidance on adjustments or tips on how to make backstitches as clean as possible? Even when tension is perfect and the forward/reverse stitch length is equal, the backstitches at the beginning and end of a stitch pattern (on a wallet for example) are never quite as attractive as the other stitches. Machines used are Juki LU-563 and Juki LU-1508N Thank you!

    If I adjust the rocker bar to a value more than 8.54 will I get longer stitches? I have a Singer 211g266 which works fine but the max stitchlength is not 7mm like the manual says but more like 4.5 or 5mm. Think I have done every adjustment in the book by now or am I just grasping at straws?

    Does anyone know if all settings in this video apply to Seiko SL-19? It looks like the SL-19 is based on Singer 211 which is very similar to a Singer 111 internally. And I guess the Juki 563 is based on the Singer 111. Any input is much appreciated.

    Hi Uwe, How do you know when the machine is set to "0" ? I am adjusting my LU563 but the wheel get very tight and I'm not sure if it is at zero. thanks John G.Your video is very good! since I don't have access to service in my area, I depend on youtube. / thanks again.

    • @UweXY
      @UweXY  7 років тому +1

      You can verify the stitch is at or close to zero if the needle and feed dog stay centered front-to-back when you depress the reverse lever or turn the handwheel. Sometimes the parts inside the feed excenter stick together from old oil residue. Oil the excenter (and everything else) and try to move stitch length to both extremes a couple of times. There should be a hard stop at both ends and relatively smooth movement in the middle. There are some adjustment screws on the excenter itself, but they rarely need to be adjusted.

    What advantage does reducing the foot lift height have? I usually leave mine set to maximum.

    • @UweXY
      @UweXY  5 років тому +3

      Lower foot lift reduces dynamic stress, vibrations, and noise when you sew very fast. It has no real advantage when you sew at slow speeds for leather or upholstery work.

    • @lordsummerisle87
      @lordsummerisle87 5 років тому

      @@UweXY Thanks Uwe. In that case I should probably reduce the lift height to the minimum I can get away with. I primarily sew leather at the machine's max speed.

    • @Jkirk3279
      @Jkirk3279 6 років тому

      Thomas Austin
      Machines skip stitches when the hook fails to grab the upper thread.
      Of course, it can be a timing error, or the needle being thrown off by a collision you didn't even notice.
      Keep in mind, these parts whirl at speeds rivaling a race car engine.
      If a commercial machine isn't grounded, just static electricity from fabric will create a powerful magnetic field.
      The needle needs to come very close; close enough that the magnetic field pulls the needle into the hook.
      Inspect your used needles and the hook point.
      If you find burrs, those must be gently removed or the thread will fray on them.

    • @UweXY
      @UweXY  8 років тому

      That is not a good sign. Something may be loose or broken in the head. My video on how to replace a thread tension release guide (ua-cam.com/video/4aSNYzUTnW4/v-deo.html) shows how things inside the head come apart. There's a vertical guide channel that keeps the inner foot shaft from rotating as it moves up and down - it may be missing or broken or loose. I don't recommend taking things apart unless you're really comfortable with the procedure, and know how to put things back together. The same video also shows the main tension screw and how to loosen it all the way to remove the pressure spring. Some machines have the thumb wheel on top, some machines have a set screw type that you need a screwdriver to adjust.

      We're on youtube, the best place to share videos! Emailing video is troublesome. Just upload it here (as a non-public video if you prefer) and then send me a direct message. Include a view of the inside of the head as you wiggle the inner foot.

    Hi, Great video! I'm glad I happened across this video. I just bought {I'm told] an ugly Consew 226. A sewing machine company identified it. I can't locate the view wind you mentioned at 1:33. Can you tell me where to find it, if Consew 226 has one?
    Thanks, Brad

      Make sure your motor and hand wheel are spinning in the proper direction.The top of the hand wheel needs to move towards you. Some older clutch motors may start up in the wrong direction. The machine won't actually make stitches because the hook spins backwards, but it will "appear" to sew in the opposite direction.

      +Wendy Gordon I've not heard of a Techsew 7250 Pro. There is a Techsew 2750 Pro available here in North America, which is a copy of the Juki LS-341 or LS-341N.

    Hallo. Finde Ihre Videos die besten im Nähmaschinenetechnikbereich! Ich habe eine Pfaff 541 und eine 141 (fast baugleich). Bei der 541er stimmt die Vorwärtsstichlänge nicht mit der Rückwärtstichlänge überein. Wo und wie kann ich das einstellen? Vorwärts habe ich 6mm max und rückwärts 4mm max. Auch zeigt das Stichloch rückwärts eine leichte "Ziehbewegung" als wäre das Timing Untertransport und Nadel nicht exakt. Ich wäre sehr froh um einen Hinweis wie ich das korrigieren kann. Danke!

    Hi Uwe,
    Amazing video! I learned a lot from it.
    There is still one problem with my machine, that I hope that you can help me with.
    It is sewing backwards! And I have no idea why. I've had it rewired to fit to my shops outlets, why I thought the poles was reversed, but my electrician said that, that is not the case.
    When he left me the first time, it was sewing perfectly, but then I had to change the stitch-length, and it has been sewing backwards ever since.
    Do you have any idea of how to fix this? :)
    Thank you in advance!
    Kind regards,
    Simon

    • @UweXY
      @UweXY  6 років тому

      If it's your motor that actually spins backwards, then if it's a three phase clutch motor (unlikely in a domestic setting) you'll need to swap any two of the three power leads and the motor will spin the other direction. I'm not sure I trust your electrician entirely. What exactly did he "rewire" to fit your shop?
      If your motor is a single phase clutch motor, it may simply start spinning in the wrong direction occasionally. If so, just power off the motor, then turn it on again while you"help" it get started in the right direction by pressing the pedal and turning the handwheel in the correct direction - let go of the pedal as soon as it start spinning up. Get a modern servo motor when you get tired of this game.
      If your motor and handwheel spins in the correct direction, but your machine still sews backwards when it shouldn't, then something totally different is going on. You'd have to be more specific about how exactly you "had to change stitch-length."
      But in reality I can't really do individual troubleshooting remotely via UA-cam on a global basis beyond what I typed just now. I'm available for individual remote consulting and troubleshooting via Skype or Facetime. My hourly rates are the same as your local plumber or electrician :-)

      I have a feeling that he has done something wrong, and that your first suggestion is the right one :) I'll have him come back and check up on it. I did everything in your video, to be sure it was set up correctly, and now it is.
      He put in new cables, beause the guy i bought it off had just cut them at the starter-box.
      It is a Jugi LU 563 that has been used in a autoupholstery shop, why I don't think it is a domestic setting, as you write.
      Thank you so very much to have taken the time to answer my question, it is real kind of you :)
      Kind regards,
      Simon

    Hi... great video..
    Im having a problem with my juki 563.. the stitching it got small and gets bigger as i increase the speed, gets smaller as i slow down. I also noticed a play on the feed dog..
    Please help. Thanks

    • @UweXY

      There should be no play in the feed dog movement. Find out why the feed dog has play and fix that first.

      Uwe Grosse actually the play is with tha middle foot together..it looks like is coming from a piece on the bottom where the changing stitch botton presses down to.. that piston like arm has play..

    Hi. My Juki lu 563 is leaving marks from the feed dog on my leather. i looked at the manual and it says to tuen ta screw that looks like its behind the little pole with the multiple holes. well, the screw will not turn to the left anymore..and turning it right will tighten or increase pressure. what can I do?

    • @UweXY
      @UweXY  8 років тому

      Sewing leather without leaving any marks can be tricky (and sometimes impossible) and there's no simple answer. Discussion forums like www.leatherworker.net (forum: leather sewing machines) are filled with lengthy discussions about just that topic. Many factors are involved: type of leather, presser foot spring strength, feed dog and presser feet with or without teeth, feed mechanism, throat plate design, and so forth.

      how can I fix the issue of the middle foot shifting to the right when its all the way down? could it be going down too far...in turn putting too much pressure on the leather?

    just curiosity, i know that you have consew 225 and singer 111w155, which are same machines exactly. what are the differences compared to lu-563? can you check it? maybe bobbin size, maybe take-up lever stroke distance...

    • @UweXY
      @UweXY  5 років тому +2

      Yes, the bobbin and hook size are larger on the 563, and also a few associated bits like hook saddle, take-up lever etc. The other big thing is that the lu-563 has reverse, which neither the 225 nor the 111w155 have.

    Awesome & great videos man. I have a singer 111G156 my Big walking foot doesn't lift while sewing like the one showed here. is there a way to correct this or is that the way the machine is set up? also, is there a way to tighten the tension on the bobin, my top thread seems to be pulling too hard and I released most of the tension there. I was thinking maybe I need to tighten the bobin tension to resolve this problem. any help would be greatly appreciated. keep up the good work with the videos.

    • @UweXY
      @UweXY  8 років тому +1

      Your machine should work the same . Page 17 of the manual (www.manualslib.com/manual/364314/Singer-111w156.html) also describes how to adjust the presser foot walking height. There may be other adjustment issues. The outer foot only lifts up if the inner foot can press against the feed dog. The outer foot uses the inner foot as leverage via linkages to lift up. My video about replacing the thread tension release guide (ua-cam.com/video/4aSNYzUTnW4/v-deo.html) shows how the linkages inside the head work and how they should be adjusted.

    • @UweXY
      @UweXY  8 років тому

      Also, there's a tiny screw on the thread tension spring on the hook that allows you adjust the bobbin thread tension. The manual mentioned above should cover this.

      +Uwe Grosse thanks so much this has really been helpful. I got everything set, but I think I screwed it all up when I adjusted the feed dogs. now instead of 5 spi, I get 12 spi. do I need to realign/set the stitch wheel to 12 to match the stitches that I currently have?
