Explain "panem et circenses" (Bread and Circuses). I sort of know what it means, but would like to hear it being explained. Also: I got really excited when I saw this video was only 1:21 - punishment time! But no, it's not on CousinsApart. When I get time, I think I should do some videos - but what should they be?
Actually, according to my French teacher, when the woman said 'Let them eat cake', she actually meant because of their massive stores of barley I think it was, cake was the easiest thing to make out of it, meaning an abundance of food and a French monarchy today, instead of the French revolution killing all French royalty.
I heard the Cake she was talking about wasn't necessarily the eggs, sugar, and frosting type. The Barley Cake was more like a tough chewy thing more closely related to a Sea Biscuit than what we would cake today.
not even close to true. she wanted to give them briche which was a highly caloric valued cake it was an offereing not a disconnect. the royals were short on food too.
Thank you. This video is 13 years old and you are still helping people today.
Great explanation. Thank you!
I doubt you check this channel anymore. But loved this video. 9 years later. Wish you had kept with it
