@@FallenJoker_ His fan base really do dick ride him ngl. I watched a meme compilation video and when the music videos came on at the end everyone was clowning it, but when dontai said it was good most of them switched their "opinion" just like that.
@@FallenJoker_ found a twitch fanboy
In my opinion, it’s just entertainment. He knows what he’s doing and it works
I feel the same way, I think it’s weird that people want artists to really do the crimes or make songs off things they have done. No other genre holds these standards tbh
@@oscarpanuco7160t depends. on one hand, fans actually want their artists to get into crime/altercations for entertainment value and on the other some viewers would prefer some legitimacy when consuming media by either having the art be removed, adjusted to be more accurate to the individual artist, or be more transparent to viewers by heavily implying that creative freedom was taken.
Also no genre holds those standards because hip hop has always been an explicit genre to the point that you can call it transparent in a sense; rappers in the early days were respected for rapping about their criminal lifestyles in an original way, *but using others lyrics and flow while pretending to be someone you’re not is considered “biting” and makes you a fraud. every other genre has even had covers for decades but that’s a relatively new concept in rap .
*Edit: changed while to but
@@oscarpanuco7160it’s not that they want them to be doing the crimes…. But if you’re talking about a certain life it’s kind of expected that you know, lived it. It’s just weird to talk about a lifestyle you don’t or can’t partake in. That’s why there flex rap and there’s gangster rap, and etc. There’s so many different lanes and categories to choose from that covey a lifestyle… so why lie and make up one? The reasonMabu is just under the flame rn because it’s drill/gangster music, we don’t see teca rapping about poppin somebody’s lid and he’s a cap artist.
Nah it’s corny watching someone act gangster when in real life they aren’t. For a lot of rappers that actually live that life, it’s not just entertainment. So blurring the lines with some corny rich daddy’s boi white kid, it’s cringe. I don’t care if kid can rhyme well, Mabu is cringe for portraying a fake life.
Exactly, the same way 6ix9ine came up, dude knew what he was doing, got rich as fuck then vanished

As a black person, in the know, you look at this and appreciate the openness about it just being tolerant, but you know there’s an extra layer. Specifically because it’s DRILL rap he’s promoting.
It's weird how music is the only medium where it's "weird" to "fake" art, yet we watch countless movies, tv shows, games re-enacting real-related life events both in the name of fiction and non-fiction. I get how it can come across as corny heavy fronting, but it's a massive double standard. "Narcos is literally re-enacting real life related crimes and deaths where people actually grew up in cartels and had trauma, it's so fucked up they're not even about that life; they're actors. Imagine a person involved really living that life sees the content". I don't ever see people say that shit lol. Why? We "romanticize" gang life on tv shows; Top Boy? Or even cartels as I said earlier; Narcos? Have yall never seen the gruesome ways people lose their lives to cartels? We glorify this life, let's stop lying to ourselves.
Idk this just feels like one big joke where we wanna cherry-pick and target only specific kinda people in the industry for being "fake". If these artists cared about Mabu profiting off the "street life persona", they just wouldn't collab with him. Right? But yet they still do. He's giving them exposure the same way they give him exposure. It's a mutual transaction. The day where we hold every artist, regardless of ethnicity on their "realness" is the day I'll take this shit seriously. Until then, I just see it as people hating on Mabu for not being Black ngl.
a song is more comparable to a documentary than a fiction movie, if someone completely lies about their life on a documentary than some people will think it’s pretty weird
@@shawni.7138 You know documentaries can still be unauthentic and involve actors right? It's a replication. The point I'm making is that we tend to make the argument of "trauma" here for American gang-related violence, yet ignore the traumas off actual mafias, cartels, etc and the profits in these fields too. We glorify this kind of life; whether it be street gangs, cartels, or mafias in the entertainment industry. Our society is full of hypocrites.
I knew Mabu was not "on it" after viewing his persona. He makes it obvious. I feel like when it is obvious, it's not that big of a deal. It's a different story if the artists puts on heavy fronting. Anybody mad at him honestly is just annoyed that a White boy beat the system better than most rappers. Regardless if he has money or not; plenty of people got money and cannot succeed in this industry.
@@donmoez6289 “beat the system” dawg HE IS THE SYSTEM

I love Patrick CC but the Ja Morant comparison is really stupid. Ja gains nothing from being a fake gangster whilst Mabu does make money and fame off it. That's ALMOST like comparing a actor that plays a gangster in a show to ja morant.
With that being said still a really good video from Patrick and reaction from Dontai. Also I am really indifferent about Mabu because I really just don't care about or listen to him tbh.

People talking about rapping about trauma that didn’t happen need to stop because u know dang well 90% of the people listening to rap aren’t getting sad or being sympathetic nor are the rappers looking for sympathy. They’re looking for money and most listeners are just tying to hear some shit that makes them hype. Most rap songs are listened to and the reaction is usually about it sounding good and singing along about the crimes. There are songs that aren’t rap that are about the sad life and for that you could make the argument but let’s not pretend that rap is some legit story’s every single time that isn’t exaggerated and that it isn’t for the money. You can say the same thing with actors starring in movies. They aren't living that life, nor are they glamorizing being shot. Like Keanu Reeves isn't glamorizing shooting people when he's in John Wick, he is also getting paid for doing that same thing.
eeeh not really thats a bit of a stretch, you go to watch a movie because you know its acting and isnt real, but as an artist going around saying youve done things and glamorizing it you would assume they are about whatever life style that is.
That just is not the same thing. John Wick shoots people, not Keanu Reeves, and it's super easy for anyone to make that distinction because they know it is a movie with an already established narrative and they go into the movie knowing that it's fiction. Before all the jokes about Lil Mabu coming from wealth were being made he had no mention of it. He only started leaning into it once people found it. I personally don't mind it but I think the critiscm of glamorizing a dangerous lifestyle of actual people in an actual location where violence occurs when you have never experienced it is valid.

Either way I don’t listen to the kid🤷🏾♂️ I just see him pop up in my feed. But the thing is the consumers of hip hop is overwhelmingly starting to become pretty much just mabu clones so ofc this is the byproduct. 1 culture vulture, and two I don’t think anyone understands the impact music and celebrities have overall. To have never come from that and glorify it and pump that venom back into the communities. But hey who cares, that shit is hard. (But let be clear, hip hop was hijacked way b4 mabu)
That’s wild…
exactly, like look at the crowds at most rappers concerts, it be a bunch of lil white kids, they’re the biggest demographic nowadays with rap

Been around that life and lived it, I still find bros music amusing tho, as long as he really ain’t tryna act like he’s been thru it and hide his golden roots idc lol it’s funny
What’s crazy to me is that people hate on lil mabu because he’s not about that life but a lot of y’all’s favorite rappers aren’t gangsters either and they don’t be doing the things they be rapping about. And whether you like lil mabu or not, you gotta admit the kid is a marketing genius and is strategic. 😂
Clout is hell of a drug. He'll be singing like Justin Bieber in a few years.
Sha boing boing
Its like souljah boy for example.
