2:33 Love hearing Powder's laugh that is not the maniacal laughter of Jinx. Genuinely happy laugh. The last time we heard it was in the season 1 episode 7 jinx vs ekko fight and that's kid powder playing paintball with kid ekko
The realization that Ekko was gonna leave was absolutely heartwrenching. And no one will even know what he sacrificed. Ekko is my mvp. Jinx truly is one of the most tragic characters I've had the privilege to see.
I don't think he felt he is sacrificing. I think he felt he could not sacrifice his people for himself. He always have to save people and had to come back. Also he was aware him staying is stealing life of another him.
@Gufupandi09th13 oh ya, I already knew jinx was alive. She is dead as far as vi knows (and that is how she wants it). My statement was mostly along the lines that the sisters seem to not able to find happiness together. Ironicly jinx might find happiness somewhere in runeterra as she wanders (my be a certain blonde light mage (I joke)). It's just sad that for them to find happiness they most lose eachother.
“Everything is a dance with you?” In season 1 ep 7 Ekko danced with Jinx on the bridge (fight) In season 2 ep 7 Ekko danced with Powder Arcane be cooking
Powder's look at 1:52 told me that she knew that Ekko wasn't her own Ekko. Also the way she said what she said "sometimes taking a leap forward means leaving a few things behind", reminiscing and accepting the fact that she too has to let go of something: him. That's why she doesn't ask questions about the kiss denial or how he "gave up on her" or that "let's pretend its the first time". She truly knows and she still goes along with it because she truly loves him too. God dammit... It hurts, it burns, but it is so beautiful at the same time.
I've never realized Powder knew, but in retrospect of course she did. She's the most talented scientist in Zaun, a child prodigy, and an excellent judge of character. Thank you for opening my eyes a bit more
@@channelwithoutaname6244 I don't think they would have. Telling Powder would be risky. She could become too distraught over having to lose Ekko or after realizing it wasn't even her Ekko in the first place. It would be easier and faster to just pretend it's just another project of theirs. It makes much more sense that Powder just figured it out on her own.
@@DashingSteel it is up for interpretation. When she asks Ekko at Vi's mural: "out with it, what do you want from me?", he could have very well told her right then and there. Or perhaps not considering Heimerdinger's words of revealing info on parallel dimensions would create awkward consequences. There's another scenario where Powder is indeed very smart as you said, and so as soon as she read Ekko's journal and started suspecting something, she asked them directly what was going on and both Ekko and Heimerdinger would have had no choice but to tell her the truth. Regardless, I think she 100% knew by the time the party happened.
@@DashingSteel I thought there was a scene where they were sitting in a booth at the last drop showing powder the hex crystal shards that implied they told her. If they hadn't explained the stakes, I don't think she would have been ok with using the crystals for a project.
Nothing else exists when he sees her. His eyes change. His expression changes. From slightly smiling to complete awe of her beauty. No hesitation when standing up. Like his body moves on his own. But slow enough to take in every detail of her. To admire her. He understands that there is only one thing that matters in that moment. And thats her. The attention to detail in this scene is just out of this world.
2:20 his face here breaks my heart everytime man. This is Ekko at his most vulnerable and he's just hoping for one laat experience that he can keep with him before he leaves
Such a magical scene. It's so fascinating to me how this one in particular quickly became one of the audience's favourite scenes of the season. In the midst of all the chaos and drama, we've got to witness this peak romance, just two people dancing together and sharing a kiss. I'm so enamored with Ekko and Jinx/Powder this time around.
It's the warmest episode where I've had the most chills. We could fully feel what Ekko felt here. Love, so simple. Wonderful episode, my favorite of the show.
no matter how many times i watch this scene THIS is the moment that chokes me up without fail. his expression when their eyes meet is filled with so much tenderness and yearning 🥺💙 endless praise to the animators responsible for breathing such raw human emotion into these characters
@@gap_tooth Perfectly said. He has seen it all, lost it all, been through hell... And that single moment we get an ekko at his most vulnerable. All those emotions that he had for Powder as a kid resurfaced instantly, he has been broken, he lost hope, he was filled with anguish, but that one embrace that she gave him is everything he ever wanted. It hurts so much, yet it's so goddam beautiful at the same time.
I think when powder saying “sometimes taking a leap forwards means leaving something behind”, she already knows this Ekko is not her Ekko, she pity this Ekko for all he has been through even without telling her, she look through his eyes and knows. Ekko was talking about staying in a moment and never move on, but it is her telling him he must move one because she told him, her Ekko never gave up on anything. The pure love is not holding tight, the pure love is letting the one you love go wherever suitable for them.
They really made one of the best side characters ever . I never guessed that ekko will be so important to the story and man I was hoping that ekko and powder get to live there life.
it’s been almost a week and still can’t get this scene out of my head. it makes it so much more meaningful that not only he leaves this reality, but the first thing he does when he gets back is go find Jinx. He knows this is not his Powder even if he wished it. As troublesome as it is, his world and his powder is where he belongs deep down. His character arc ended up being the best one in the series with half as much screen time than anyone else. Legendary
I’m just so happy that universe is able to continue existing in happiness. A version of Ekko and Powder can continue their adorable romantic relationship and the undercity is alive and thriving.
Yeah definitely. He suddenly started acting like he had PTSD and knew way too much about time travel and Hex-Tech never existed in this timeline, and how he and Heimderdinger spoke like they knew each other well despite Heimerdinger being a BIG deal in Piltover (probably still being a councilman in this timeline given it was Jayce who forced him out in the OG timeline). That was enough that I think Powder strongly suspected but wasn't sure if she'd sound like a crazy person if she straight up asked if Ekko and Heimerdinger had already time travelled before. I think she was hoping Ekko would be the one to tell her.
Riot and Fortische did a stellar job in this performance, this parallel universe of what is for Ekko, and what could have been at the same time, a predicament in the middle of the conundrum, but my guy sacrificed his dream world to face his reality.
The alternate timeline jayce saw and visited was the timeline where Ekko didn't return. So there's a timeline out there where Ekko stayed and lived happy with Powder
There's many of them because Viktor tried many different runes to give to Jayce before one of them worked, and the acceleration rune is the only reason why they were able to make a time machine. There must be countless timelines where Ekko literally couldn't go back home.
I wonder how well it would go. This episode was so impactful precisely because it is what _could_ have been, and is so different from what _is_ . Powder, grown up happy and beautiful. Everyone alive except vi. Seemingly no war. I wonder if a slice of life can have the kinds of lows necessary to make highs like these. Taking a leap forward means leaving a few things behind
Gotta love ow Powder realised this is not her Ekko long before this but still decided to get along anyway. Seeing her reaction that confirm her suspicion at the end is absolute gold to me
If you’re talking about the teenage love (bc they’re teenagers on this timeline) you’re not missing anything believe me. Also you can find love at any age. Just love yourself first before starting to love someone else 💜
Nonsense stranger, you’ve got one out there. We all do. And I tell you, when you find that one, there’s nothing in this world sweeter than that first kiss.
This might be one of the most beautiful scenes ive ever seen in an animation knowing all the context and the things ekko has been trough, so sad yet so beautiful.
Yea I read a theory that she could try to save vi by turning back time enough. But we know the limit is 4 seconds, so it could end up destroying everything
I have a 50/50 view on that, while it would be nice to see her developing Hextech in this universe, I think that it would be best if she went on to do something else scientifically significant with her life. This universe should also be a one and done thing that we never revisit in later shows, but at least we can live with the satisfaction that AU Powder and Ekko are together in love with each other.
This is my all time favourite episode in the series, and probably my favourite scene. I wish we could’ve seen more of them like this in the original timeline, but I think that’s the beauty of it. Knowing that in another universe, they’re happy.
God this scene is so beautiful. The music so entrancing. The visuals so mesmerising. Ella purnell playing powder for the first time and not jinx. That rooftop scene with the music faded. The last line before the kiss "can we just pretend like it's the first time". The way ekko alludes to his timeline here, just how he alluded to this one with jinx later. A perfect moment, perfectly captured
2:14 man i can't. I just can't I didn't notice on my first watch. Our timeline Ekko and Heimer of course told Powder that they are from an alternate timeline. How else would they explain that they want her help to make a hexgate too. So she knows that's not her original Ekko. Also shown from the fact that she tells him that he needs to go back and leave this nice alternate reality behind to save his. It's just when she tries to kiss him and he stops her she feels awkward, a bit frustrated that he doesn't respond. Maybe thinking that in his timeline they are on REALLY bad terms to the point that he doesn't love her (well they kinda are, but not to such a point) But when he asks her to pretend like it's the first time she gets that they just never kissed in his timeline. Not that he doesn't love her there It's so damn important to him and that turn of her head is an instant realization from her part on that. That turn, just this slight, slow movement expresses so much, how did they make such an expressive body language to these characters? It's not just that she gets they have never kissed in his timeline. Her profile looks kinda sad for a second because she gets that in the other timeline, for some reason they didn't have the chance to get together, to have this so beautiful relationship she has with her Ekko. And she more than happily accepts and wholeheartedly tries to give him a memory he would otherwise might never get the chance to have in his timeline and one that he always wanted And of course she knows she can give him this because although he is an alternate timeline Ekko, he is still Ekko Its so sweet it literally turned me into a melting pile of sugar
I think this might be my favorite moment of the show. It is such a heavy scene. Going from this show's usual display of suffering and misery, to everything being perfect for atleast one of our troubled protagonists. That stark contrast is what took a heavy toll on me. The fact that Ekko got to experience a moment of absolute tranquility probably for the first time in his life. His love for powder literally resurfaced. He got a taste of what his life would look like if it was PERFECT. I think they concluded his time there beautifully in this scene when they animated it in 4 frames a second. Not only since you know, that was the amount of time he could go back in time, but a part of him truly wanted to stay in that moment forever so he made sure to cherish every second of it. He is happy here, yet he knows he will need to let it all go very soon after this. I cried ALOT during this ngl 😭
As a french speaker , the song has so much meaning in this romantic moment , in hinting us to the real world where Ekko and Jinx are ennemy and nearly killed each other
even though im sad as to what happened to jinx this alternate timeline is also just as canon as the timeline the show focuses on, so technically timebomb is canon and they are all happy and thriving, just not in the universe arcane chose to focus on

In season 1 ep 7 Ekko danced with Jinx on the bridge (fight)
In season 2 ep 7 Ekko danced with Powder
Arcane be cooking
S1EP07 was a dance of death, Danse Macabre
It was actually romantic
Thank you for opening my eyes a bit more
Hadn't Ekko and Heimerdinger already explained the situation to her?

The tragedy isn't that was taken away, that tragedy is that he _chose_ to leave for the greater good. That's what makes Ekko a hero.

Such a magical scene. It's so fascinating to me how this one in particular quickly became one of the audience's favourite scenes of the season.
Ekko was talking about staying in a moment and never move on, but it is her telling him he must move one because she told him, her Ekko never gave up on anything.

it’s been almost a week and still can’t get this scene out of my head. it makes it so much more meaningful that not only he leaves this reality, but the first thing he does when he gets back is go find Jinx.
The way ekko talks in this makes me feel like powder already knows this isn't her ekko.
Yeah, by this point I truly think she knows. Or at least has a huge hunch of him not being exactly who she might think he is.
The dance being in 4fps and Ekko later being able to go back just 4 seconds shows how he wants to relive that moment forever
Riot and Fortische did a stellar job in this performance, this parallel universe of what is for Ekko, and what could have been at the same time, a predicament in the middle of the conundrum, but my guy sacrificed his dream world to face his reality.
This made me cry more than any other scene in the season, not even Isha’s death and everything that came with it. I’m just glad this timeline exists.
At least Powder and that universes Ekko are a couple, I hope.
They are 👍
Yes they are a couple, and that's why Eko asked for her to pretend like it's the first time before they kissed.
@@Lyndonswing Thats why Mylo said: "Problems in Paradise?" Too.
We need to petition Riot to make a season long slice-of-life of the Hextech-less reality

"Can we just pretend like it's the first time?" - has got to be the sweetest most heartwarming thing I have heard in a long time ❤
Notice that Powder helped build their teleporter… and she has hex crystals still. She could absolutely use them to make another anomaly.
'the worst benediction, the best malediction, from you I should run away,""
This makes me feel nostalgic about a thing I've never experienced. Quite crazy.
At the end of this scene you can see Powder glance at Ekko's lips for a second during the dance, they're so cute together
This is my all time favourite episode in the series, and probably my favourite scene. I wish we could’ve seen more of them like this in the original timeline, but I think that’s the beauty of it. Knowing that in another universe, they’re happy.
Poor Ekko, he saved the world.. but couldn’t get the girl
I'm so glad they made this scene 10 hours long, the rest doesn't matter 😭
God this scene is so beautiful. The music so entrancing. The visuals so mesmerising. Ella purnell playing powder for the first time and not jinx. That rooftop scene with the music faded. The last line before the kiss "can we just pretend like it's the first time". The way ekko alludes to his timeline here, just how he alluded to this one with jinx later. A perfect moment, perfectly captured
This scene is so magical and I can't explain why, but Jinx/Powder smile gives me so much joy.
The most beautiful episode I’ve ever watched😭
This episode deserves as many awards as possible.
2:14 man i can't. I just can't
I didn't notice on my first watch.
Maybe thinking that in his timeline they are on REALLY bad terms to the point that he doesn't love her (well they kinda are, but not to such a point)
But when he asks her to pretend like it's the first time she gets that they just never kissed in his timeline. Not that he doesn't love her there
It's so damn important to him and that turn of her head is an instant realization from her part on that. And she more than happily accepts and wholeheartedly tries to give him a memory he would otherwise might never get the chance to have in his timeline and one that he always wanted
And of course she knows she can give him this because although he is an alternate timeline Ekko, he is still Ekko
Its so sweet it literally turned me into a melting pile of sugar
What could've been
I think this might be my favorite moment of the show.
I have accepted that I'll never be able to watch this scene without getting emotional
