Loved this telecast. Gotta say, the war against factoids around 20:55 is a fool's errand. Sean this year: "Make a moment of quietude before the speech." Sean next year: "The silence while the winners approached the stage was cringe."
Something that doesn't seem to come up in the discussion is that maybe more popular films would get nominated if they actually got time to become popular throughout the year, instead of everything getting dumped in December.
I’m so, so disappointed with this Podcast, mostly with Shan of course. I used to enjoy it but now seeing all the I’ll informed commentaries about “I’m still here” I notice how this is actually a common theme here in “The big picture”; they not only don’t care and don’t WATCH the movies (often showing indifference), but instead make mean and and malicious comments about it. Insinuating Fernanda Torres won the award only because of her mother is so disrespectful given his touching and highly skillful work in the film, from an actress with 20+ years of experience (and again, coming from people who didn’t even watched the movie). This is pure empty film commentary, there’s zero actual care for film making here. This people are only interested in staying comfortable holding the same old standard they always had; I hope time just take care of putting this sort of atitude where it belongs. 53:27
How often to you listen to this podcast? Clearly not as often as you’re making it seem. If so you’d know that 2/3 of them have seen it and the other one has not due to a pregnancy leave. Also they have the right to not feel as strongly as others on certain movies. At no point during this podcast did I get the impression that they credited Fernandas win because of her mother, I’d suggest you direct this commentary towards Brazilian fans, whose argument that Fernanda should win the Oscar is because her mother was snubbed of hers for Central Station, and who are also privately messaging academy voters and disguising themselves as Mexican fans to trash on other nominees. This podcast has always been Hollywood centric and they never fail to let the audience know that.
Kevin Frazier host of ET, was truly terrible as the announcer, his factoids about the winners when they walked up to the stage were annoying and unnecessary. Hope they don't bring him back again and have longtime Globes announcer Shawn Parr back, he was great last year.
@@alexsamain812 He's really not, he's terrible host filled with dumb ideas as well. I've seen him on Entertainment Tonight and he's always pretty pathetic and annoying and everyone knows it. I can't lie.

42:35 I’ve had stock in Cristin Milioti since 2012 when she was in the OBC of Once: A New Musical. So happy to see how her career’s flourished. Total rock star 🙌🏼
Anora better win a lot of fucking Oscars becuz its insane Emilia Perez won so much this time, I enjoyed the film, but I wish the voters were completely honest with themselves about its actual quality instead of virtue signalling
The Globes do matter - it changes the very real narrative of the award landscape and the speeches matter. It’s not a silly show. Brutalist is now the frontrunner, as is Demi Moore and Anora may win original screenplay award at the Oscar - but that’s it. It’s too hooker gritty for the Academy.
"I'm Still Here didn't work for me". Don't worry it will work, as soon as Trump take the presidency, but at that moment it will be too late. In Brazil we could fight hard and removed a dictatorship, because they didn't have nuclear weapons to treat everyone, but for you it will be impossible. Then you will understand the importance of a movie like I'm Still Here and all the works Fernanda and team did.
Every episode you guys bring Fernanda Torres to the topic is embarrassing. You don’t watch the foreign movie and then try to justify the win by the most racist reason.
There needs to be a review of the reviewers. A Talk Soup for podcasts. If you're going to dish it then you should take it, although maybe go easy on Sean... he's a Jets fan
Emelia Perez is such a disappointing selection. Just not that good of a movie. No wild robot? Or Anora? WTF? Emelia Perez is the biggest DEI win ever. Zoey was good in it, but man that movie totally sucked. AND they awarded it the foreign film too!!! Just how!?? So disappointing. Will be rooting for it to be snubbed at the AA
One thing I haven’t heard mentioned is the fact that movie theaters aren’t playing what I call “good films” that aren’t blockbuster, kids or horror. If you aren’t in New York la or sf all of our “Shawshank redemption” “garden state” or even “Oppenheimer” don’t seem to get to big screens.
Amanda's back *and* Jo's still here? What an embarrassment of riches. Delightful stuff; please make good on Sean's promise to have JR recur for the rest of the silly season. Wouldn't mind that mooted Katey Rich return either!
54:03 thank god they are changing... a lot of great unknown talent get snubbed on this "er... not really for me, but happy for the talent, i guess..." type of energy, not trying to throw shade at all, just saying how it usually happens, the awards are trying to open up more about different aspects of culture, filmaking and acting thankfully

Also let's keep in mind Mexicans and latinos in general are not a fan of Emilia Perez. It's a French movie with an eurocentric view of Mexico. The director even said he didn't need to research Mexico because he knew enough. It's a movie about Mexico for white people who can't point where Mexico is on a map.
It's just overtaken Mamma Mia to become the most successful Broadway to Screen adaptation of a musical ever. And it's not a superhero franchise or a kids cartoon. As well as doing great box office, it's also cinematic. So I don't think it's that hard to understand why it won, even if the category is rather odd.
The brutalist performing the way it did pretty much ended any chances for wicked doing anything, I would go as far as saying brutalist is the front runner for best picture and director imo
Wicked was never going to win BP, idk why the Big Pic folks thought that. It's tech heavy so it gets a lot of noms but it's both too commercial and too populist to win the big prize.
i'm not trying to change the subject, i know you're talking about movies, but, i believe shogun has won so far every single award it has been nominated for (across a few awards shows) and it has been nominated for a ton of awards, not sure if this is something that has ever happened for a drama tv series or movie, i guess return of the king comes close -and it's still well-deserved, and i actually all along stated it would, win every award.
Will Dune 2 be nominated for the Academy, cuz it's a shame it's not even being considered for these other award shows so far. Idk if any of these in the best picture for Globes is on the level of Dune 2, my opinion tho
These three are so smart. I really love listening to them. At the same time I notice that every year Sean leads me down the wrong path. Last year if you listen to the pod each week you would have thought that The Taste of Things was the front runner for Best Pic (And it is a great film) And this year you would think that Anora was the leader. But just like last year when we get to the end you realize that you have been "Seaned". He is so smart that he convinces you of something that is not going to happen.
Like anyone, all he can do is offer his opinion. If the awards season has any value to filmgoers, it's that they provoke a lively conversation about a diverse range of films and, hopefully, what people liked and admired as opposed to picking 'winners', or telling their audience what they should like. Do they encourage you to go to the cinema, or check out movies you might not otherwise have known about, still less seen? Do they at some level educate you, as well as entertain you? That's where they add value, not predicting the winners in advance, which would be boring if they were too good at it..
Demi Moore deserved it she was the best female performance of the year. Anora is basically cooked. Emilia Perez isnt going to win at the Oscars like Golden Globes.
