I got a purple squier fsr 70’s jag a couple months ago and with a good setup it’s an absolute gem. Feels great, plays great, and looks awesome. Squier nailed it.
@@theguitaristas I understand Colin. They didn’t have the 60s model a couple of months ago when I bought the 70s version. I would have preferred the 60s with the painted headstock and the dot inlay fretboard. Your white looks fantastic. But I’m pretty keen on the 60s silver sparkle. I’m tempted to get one of those too.
as did I. swapped out the pickguard for a proper tortoise shell, custom. it actually kinda/sorta competes with my American one. the short scale neck is a blessing, really--esp. if you've been doing arm stretches for yonks on Jazzmasters hahaha.

Bought one, shimmed the neck, staytrem bridge and new strings. The total cost was about 100 quid extra, this wee Squier now plays great, stays in tune and is still cheaper than a MIM. Great videos mate, thank you for the content.

For anyone that noticed the Inductance reading is relatively high compared to the resistance which is below average for a strat type pickup. The Inductance is raised by adding the metal baseplates or claws that wrap around the pickups. They shield the pickups and add output and thats what gives a Jaguar pickup a unique sound

The thing about having a Jaguar in your arsenal as you say Colin is it inspires a different style of playing whereas I find the everything else - strat, Tele, Sg, Les Paul, Es335- prompts a typical blues and rock style. I notice you played a little different two. I’ve played for 40 years. Never had any interest in Jaguars. Actually didn’t like them. Then I bought a Squier and in 8 Months I’ve bought 3 Jaguars. All different. Absolutely loving them.
I’m thinking I might have to get one of these this year and play my Tele, Strat, and LP a lot less. I like the sound of the pickups, and matching headstock.
@@jonathanhandsmusic Well done. The key is to appreciate it for what it is. There’s no point in trying to replicate the same tone on every guitar. I love a strat. I love a Tele. The Jaguar is significantly different. Yep it’s a sharper sound but playing around with the settings on the guitar and amp a bit and it will really reward you. My go to playing is to roll off a few blues licks... but not on a Jag. I’m doing arpeggios, some funky riffing and then lots of rhythm playing whereas I’d always play lead on a strat or a Tele. Get on board my friend!

Thank you for this detailed video. I once owned a 1963 Jaguar Olympic White/ matching headstock, I called it the Magic Guitar. Had to sell it in rough times. I just ordered this Squire version. The Indonesian Squires are amazing, I have a CV Telecaster, Jazzmaster, and Mustang. I’ll be updating the Tremolo and Bridge. Definitely setting up with 11’s. Your channel has inspired me to purchase many guitars.
After a few months, this is the guitar that stays on the stand, plugged into the Blackstar Studio 10, every day. I love this guitar, it's the one I noodle on daily. @@theguitaristas haven’t had much time with recently arrived Squire Jag, but initial thoughts are astonishment and disbelief. I’ve only played Mag the Jag acoustically…yet to plug in…she rings nicely and the neck feels wonderful. Speaking of the neck - incredible darkish tone of finish. I was actually surprised by the understated binding. Just a lovely guitar…and factoring in the price, it’s an incredible purchase.
Love your style. You have the accent I grew up with, I'm from 50s Brixton, long in the tooth. Now in France, (same as Berne Williams of The Authentics) just got a classic vibe 60's Tele: magic. In 1964, my bruv bought a new 1962 Sunburst Jaguar for a song, to play in our club band, (ThE MoTiVATiON). It was from a dodgy first floor shop over The Pink Flamingo club in Soho in London. It was so cheap, under a £100, that we figured it was bent goods. Sounded fantastic through his Wallace valve amp. Now I want one, so I'll go for the Squier as I am so starry eyed over the the Indonesian Tele. Buddy Guy played my brother's at Fairfield Hall in 65 when his was lost at Heathrow. Yes I have subscribed.
The tremolo on the Jaguar and Jazzmaster is usually better at staying in tune that the vintage Stratocaster. The problem is that the Squier trem mechanism is missing the locking switch that the Fender model has. This locking switch helps you adjust the spring tension exactly to match the string tension. Adjust the tension screw until the locking switch “just” locks the trem without changing the tuning, then you are set. Without it, it’s a lot of guess work. I replaced my Squier trem with a Fender unit. Problem sorted. Also, the bridge height screws should not move, if they do, the bridge is too low. Not enough break angle from the trem unit, resulting in insufficient down force. These guitars almost almost always need a neck shim to get the proper bridge height, break angle.

If you turn your p/up switches upside down you won't turn them off by accident when your hooking in. (may have to break out the soldering iron but it's worth the effort) I also put on a Staytrem bridge, which was a necessity for me.
Love your videos! But I have to say that on the jag if it’s set up properly the tremolo system is one of the best fender has produced! As always the Squiers always need some work when you first get them but when you do they are absolutely mint!

I have the 70s version in Daphne blue , mine has a incredible flamed neck ( just the luck of the draw) I did have to put a neck shim in mine to get the bridge higher . I did the same trick with the tremelo screw , I'm thinking of doing a hardtail conversion on mine. The 24" scale is a bit small but I'm going to keep it. I do like the rhythm circuit it is a noticeable difference from the lead circuit. I do like your in depth reviews of affordable guitars.
I feel the squier jags are nicer currently than the current fender models, the price range is apparent on the fender player series models as they don't even put the metal control plates on the player model or offer them with just single coils which for me personally would be a nice option to have.
Quality video again mate, it's not a surprise because you have your style nailed down now. This one wouldn't be for me I have to confess but each to their own. The fiddly switches and their position put me right off. I do own a G&L fallout tribute which is an offset guitar with a P90 in the neck and Humbucker in the bridge and its a good guitar.

I picked up a 70s version $299 used at my local shop. It suffered from the problems most utubers had stated, nut wasn't cut rite & the intonation screw on the low E had to be ground down some, it touched the string when intonated. I played $105 for a new nut & set up & a neck shim to correct the action. Now I love it, it's easily my #2 . Love the sounds, it's what I get my more 60s sounds out of. But yeah they can need some work, but now I can feel the vibrations when played & it really sings.
I appreciate the special tones of the Fenders, have several USA made productions, very nice instruments (but I'm not a fan of the roller nut), and have been very happy with a Japanese made Mustang and 2 Squires, an Affinity and a Bullet (a lot of guitar for a reasonable costs). I always wanted a Jaguar, maybe this is the one. Thank you for another highly informative review and especially the special adjustment tips.

Great video.. just got the silver sparkle. Looks amazing. Wouldn't stay in tune at all..locked the trem back with the screw, put tape on the bridge poles, and now even with 9s it stays well in tune... dont use the rythem circuit at all...dont use the strangle switch.. just lowered the bridge pickup to taste which helps take some brightness out.. the best thing for me is that because it looks so cool, it inspires me to play it... that silver sparkle which really looks like gold and silver together is so nice and looks like a real vintage guitar.. just inspires me and now Im back wasting hours at a time...its like meditation, 2 hours can go by in a second which tells me I have found a guitar that I really like. Could be a tiny bit lighter but ... love it
Thanks for another entertaining and informative video. It reminds me of why Jaguars are so fun and why, from time to time, I'll play one to the exclusion of all my other guitars for weeks at a time. It's worth giving flat-wound strings a try on your Jag for a change of pace, too.

So true. Making money in music is far tougher now versus the late 70s and 80s. Spending under $500 versus $1300 to go ‘entry’ level or mid level is always a no brainer

Thanks a lot for this video about the “ Jag” .. On most fender / squier guitars with a “ tone” or “strangle” switch , this switch works together with the “ tone-control” .., so try the switch in both positions and play with the tone-control to here more or less effect .
Two things on the Jaguar: 1) The strangle switch is as you said mostly inconsequential. That's why it's only included on "vintage" style reissues. 2) The Rhythm circuit doesn't sound the same as the neck pup on the lead circuit with everything dimed because the former is darker due to having a differently valued potentiometer than the lower tone pot has!
Lovely guitar! And yes, I use Lemon Oil all the time on both Ebony and Rosewood. Works really well to clean and condition the fretboard. The trick is to really work at it and get it all off after you apply it. Otherwise, it attracts dust - especially at the unused part of the neck. At least that's my experience. Another nice review!! @@theguitaristas There are two camps of folks that oppose lemon oil. The first say "if you look at the contents, it's not just lemon oil. It is mostly petroleum distillate, which you don't want to put on guitar wood because it will actually dry it out." These same people then recommend using mineral oil instead. Mineral oil -- ya know, the same "petroleum distillate" that they complain about being present in the Dunlop lemon oil. The Dunlop stuff is mostly mineral oil with a little bit of lemon oil/limonene in it. It smells good, and is also a decent cleaning agent (see: all the orange-based hand cleaners for grimy mechanics). The second camp say it's too acidic and will cause damage to frets/strings/finish. Probably true if one were using pure lemon oil (would also smell...waaaaaay too strong). These folks often recommend linseed oil instead. I had a guy setup a Strat that used his own home-brew conditioner that had a lot of linseed oil in it and it did exactly what he said it would do ... doesn't dry out fast like the Dunlop lemon oil. And instead I was left with a fretboard that just felt oily for...many, many, weeks.
In case you didn't know, those wire files are actually oxy acetelyne cutting and welding torch tip cleaners, but I suppose they do the job after a fashion. They are too easy to bend for my liking. As always, I enjoyed the video, thanks.

I always try ro get to lunch early on a Friday to see what you are up to . I will even forgive you for not recognizing that Strats rule .!
I used to have one of these and had to let it go a couple years ago when money was tight. It played well and I had picked up a couple of different pickguards to try out, but hadn't gotten around to it yet. I have a Japanese Jazzmaster from 93-94 in Oly White, and the Squier colors can be off from Fender sometimes. Like this feels more like Refrigerator White than Oly White. :) Chicago Music Exchange has them in Silver Sparkle and Shell Pink currently tho, and that's definitely a consideration. Altho I have my eye on the faded pelham Epi SG you have done reviews on as I don't have an SG yet.
Great video as always Colin. Not my general cup of tea guitar wise...far too many switches and nuances but can see why some love them. I agree re Fender quality. I've recently bought US made FSR Performer strat and my word it is excellent. Good to see the young uns giving love to Fenders in all their incarnations, and that's from normally a Gibson fan.
That's a beautiful Jag especially with the matching headstock. Something about that Olympic white color and that great tort guard that really is attractive. With your tips on set-up, this guitar has some possibilities. I think the key is realizing this guitar isn't the ideal rock and roll machine but it has its place when it is respected and not made out as something it wasn't intended for. Many people put flat wound strings on this and use it as a surf guitar machine. That's one possibility. But it is also a very versatile guitar for any other genre.

My first electric guitar was a squier tele that i bought in one of those guitar packs 10 or 14 years ago and i played it almost every day, that thing never felt like it needed a setup of any kind, it blows my mind because no other guitar that i've own to this day have been as stable as that particular tele, squiers are indeed alot of bang for the buck
If you hold the back of the trem unit where the strings attach you can push the arm fully into the socket which locates it and stops it falling out and swinging around.
I am glad you made this one! I’m always thinking about getting one of these, maybe a Fender, maybe a Squier. I’ve got an old CV 50s Tele that I love. Didn’t like the skinny neck, and put a fat Fender’51 on it. Now it’s my favorite guitar, mostly. Thanks for posting this one. I like the CVs I’ve seen.
I recently picked up a white Jazzmaster in this line. Other than frets that needed a polish it was great right out of the box. I've added a buzz buster to solve the bridge/string pop possible issue - although I have a light touch - the pick ups are spectacular. Fit and finish was above it's price point. Jaguars never really did it for me tone wise..and all those buttons....lol Great to see you again! Missed my Guitarista fix!
Agree entirely that including a couple of small tools as required would be a big step forward in service at minimal cost to Fender. My MIM Fenders have arrived with truss rod allen keys and the appropriate allen key to adjust the bridge. I'm not sure with Squier being made in Asia if the tool required for the bridge would be 1,5mm or an Imperial size like the Fender instruments. Good review, great playing. Enjoy the weekend, Colin. Hi Colin, I got to rewatch this one tonight. I've got a VOS Mexican 2018 Fender I got secondhand. If you ever get your hands on one of Marr's signatures, a comparison with a VOS would be interesting. Much as I love Johnny, I'm not convinced by his tele-style four-way alternative to the neck/bridge/strangle-switch on the lower bout of the 60s and 70s models. All the best
Great review as always. I love the looks/shape of the jaguar. but I really hate the switching circuits, too much complication. I prefer the GL's or some of the fender players for those reasons
I just got my PINK Squier 70's Jaguar today, and spent about 4 hours turning it into a VERY nice guitar. I put loctite on all of the bridge threads, 11/50 strings, polished frets and fretboard, died the fretboard with ebony stain which turned it a dark rosewood color. I even took the bridge apart, and ground/filed a knife point on the pivot plate. It stays in tune perfectly, even after extreme whammy usage. WHat a damn fine guitar. But, like most classic vibe guitars, you show them a bit of love and they'll return it tenfold. It was unplayable out of the box, and now is my keeper offset...
Really enjoying the hell out of your videos Colin. I love my Jazzmaster and Jag to get those awesome surf tones. Can’t play Strats either cuz of the damn volume knob. But I’m quite happy with my offsets and my SGs.
Nice review and playing as always Colin. I have a 1971 Jaguar that still plays great. I agree that more younger players play Fender. The Squier line is a decent guitar for the money, even with the increase in price!

@theguitaristas if you push the trem arm in with more force it will pop into the groove and won't fall out. It doesn't hold in place, but it won't fall out. Edit: If you're not comfortable putting too much pressure on the trem unit you can always take the baseplate off and install the arm that way and you can see the groove.
Now i bought it , i just swapped bridge and neck pickup,all 3 positions sound better now. I do not like when the neck is hotter. Middle position is a better mix( because hotter neck pu's overwhelm weaker bridge pu's.) Distortion on bridge a bit fatter.I love it.

Maybe you could run a loop for three single single coils, the first this Jaguar, the second the Epiphone coil taped and the third the Gibson also coil taped. We could hear the difference between true single coil and tap age. Good luck hope this sounds like a good idea.

These guitars are have a sinking bridge problem but the best way I have found to fix this is to purchase some neoprene rubber washers about 1/2" in the outer diameter and with a 3/16" inner diameter hole by 1/16" thick, I did this and it took three of them per each post on the bridge and it was perfect and just the ticket for the action that I wanted on the guitar, so I hope this helps someone. For this guitar is a really good buy and in many ways it is made very well and therefore well worth the money also.
I was able to find an allen wrench at the local hardware store for 72 cents that was a 1.5 mil. So that was much easier than I had anticipated so all is not lost!.
Love your work Colin. Missed this one when it came out. Just watched it last night. Really enjoying the tokai series at the moment. Maybe you could hot up the jaguar in the future.... Great video Col. The CV are a great guitar. Prices have gone up a lot since their initial release, but then hasn’t everything. The Lemon oil I believe is linseed oil with lemon fragrance. There are lots of manufacturers variations on these. I like the PRS branded version. (Magic Roundabout reference made me smile)

Hello Colin, I've checked my 2017 SQ. Jaguar Vint. Modified and Squier schematics state the bypass filter switch (lowest on treble side) only works with both upper switches engaged. Barely hear a difference. One of the easiest mods is to take out the bypass and convert to phase reversal thereby creating an almost humbucker-esque tone with both pickups on. This should also work for the 21-22 models.
Can I just say, as someone that lives with osteoarthritis and has back problems, thank you thank you thank you for including a section on how much it weighs. Can't tell you how tricky it is to find the weight of a guitar before purchasing online sometimes. It's a small thing that I really appreciate. Thank you.

@@murrayguitarpickups9545 The metalic plate underneath the tele has the same effect,right ? I saw a video where someone said that the magnetic field is stronger becauae it is tightened in place by the claws,made sense to me. But your explanation sounds good too !

DUDE, i just bought one of these for $250 off facebook in sea foam green/white. Was giddily watching this video before i was set to pick it up after work. I went out and bought threadlocker and followed your instructions and she rips! Thanks so much for your tutorial; you turned a guitar that didnt play great initially into something i will cherish with your tips and tricks in this one. The thing about having a Jaguar in your arsenal as you say Colin is it inspires a different style of playing whereas I find the everything else - strat, Tele, Sg, Les Paul, Es335- prompts a typical blues and rock style. I notice you played a little different two. I’ve played for 40 years. Never had any interest in Jaguars. Actually didn’t like them. Then I bought a Squier and in 8
Months I’ve bought 3 Jaguars. All different. Absolutely loving them.
I’m thinking I might have to get one of these this year and play my Tele, Strat, and LP a lot less. I like the sound of the pickups, and matching headstock.
@@jonathanhandsmusic Well done. The key is to appreciate it for what it is. There’s no point in trying to replicate the same tone on every guitar. I love a strat. I love a Tele. The Jaguar is significantly different. Yep it’s a sharper sound but playing around with the settings on the guitar and amp a bit and it will really reward you. My go to playing is to roll off a few blues licks... but not on a Jag. I’m doing arpeggios, some funky riffing and then lots of rhythm playing whereas I’d always play lead on a strat or a Tele. Get on board my friend!

Thank you for this detailed video. I once owned a 1963 Jaguar Olympic White/ matching headstock, I called it the Magic Guitar. Had to sell it in rough times. I just ordered this Squire version. The Indonesian Squires are amazing, I have a CV Telecaster, Jazzmaster, and Mustang. I’ll be updating the Tremolo and Bridge. Definitely setting up with 11’s. Your channel has inspired me to purchase many guitars.

After a few months, this is the guitar that stays on the stand, plugged into the Blackstar Studio 10, every day. I love this guitar, it's the one I noodle on daily. I might plug something else in afterwards, but it always begins with the Squire CV 60's Jaguar.

@@theguitaristas haven’t had much time with recently arrived Squire Jag, but initial thoughts are astonishment and disbelief. I’ve only played Mag the Jag acoustically…yet to plug in…she rings nicely and the neck feels wonderful. Speaking of the neck - incredible darkish tone of finish. I was actually surprised by the understated binding. Just a lovely guitar…and factoring in the price, it’s an incredible purchase.
Love your style. You have the accent I grew up with, I'm from 50s Brixton, long in the tooth. Now in France, (same as Berne Williams of The Authentics) just got a classic vibe 60's Tele: magic. In 1964, my bruv bought a new 1962 Sunburst Jaguar for a song, to play in our club band, (ThE MoTiVATiON). It was from a dodgy first floor shop over The Pink Flamingo club in Soho in London. It was so cheap, under a £100, that we figured it was bent goods. Sounded fantastic through his Wallace valve amp. Now I want one, so I'll go for the Squier as I am so starry eyed over the the Indonesian Tele. Buddy Guy played my brother's at Fairfield Hall in 65 when his was lost at Heathrow. Yes I have subscribed.
The tremolo on the Jaguar and Jazzmaster is usually better at staying in tune that the vintage Stratocaster. The problem is that the Squier trem mechanism is missing the locking switch that the Fender model has. This locking switch helps you adjust the spring tension exactly to match the string tension. Adjust the tension screw until the locking switch “just” locks the trem without changing the tuning, then you are set. Without it, it’s a lot of guess work. I replaced my Squier trem with a Fender unit. Problem sorted.
Also, the bridge height screws should not move, if they do, the bridge is too low. Not enough break angle from the trem unit, resulting in insufficient down force. These guitars almost almost always need a neck shim to get the proper bridge height, break angle.

If you turn your p/up switches upside down you won't turn them off by accident when your hooking in. (may have to break out the soldering iron but it's worth the effort) I also put on a Staytrem bridge, which was a necessity for me.

Love your videos! But I have to say that on the jag if it’s set up properly the tremolo system is one of the best fender has produced! As always the Squiers always need some work when you first get them but when you do they are absolutely mint!

I have the 70s version in Daphne blue , mine has a incredible flamed neck ( just the luck of the draw) I did have to put a neck shim in mine to get the bridge higher . I did the same trick with the tremelo screw , I'm thinking of doing a hardtail conversion on mine. The 24" scale is a bit small but I'm going to keep it. I do like the rhythm circuit it is a noticeable difference from the lead circuit.

I feel the squier jags are nicer currently than the current fender models, the price range is apparent on the fender player series models as they don't even put the metal control plates on the player model or offer them with just single coils which for me personally would be a nice option to have.
Quality video again mate, it's not a surprise because you have your style nailed down now.
This one wouldn't be for me I have to confess but each to their own. The fiddly switches and their position put me right off.
I do own a G&L fallout tribute which is an offset guitar with a P90 in the neck and Humbucker in the bridge and its a good guitar.

I picked up a 70s version $299 used at my local shop. It suffered from the problems most utubers had stated, nut wasn't cut rite & the intonation screw on the low E had to be ground down some, it touched the string when intonated. I played $105 for a new nut & set up & a neck shim to correct the action. Now I love it, it's easily my #2 . Love the sounds, it's what I get my more 60s sounds out of. But yeah they can need some work, but now I can feel the vibrations when played & it really sings.
I appreciate the special tones of the Fenders, have several USA made productions, very nice instruments (but I'm not a fan of the roller nut), and have been very happy with a Japanese made Mustang and 2 Squires, an Affinity and a Bullet (a lot of guitar for a reasonable costs). I always wanted a Jaguar, maybe this is the one. Thank you for another highly informative review and especially the special adjustment tips.

Great video.. just got the silver sparkle. Looks amazing. Wouldn't stay in tune at all..locked the trem back with the screw, put tape on the bridge poles, and now even with 9s it stays well in tune... dont use the rythem circuit at all...dont use the strangle switch.. just lowered the bridge pickup to taste which helps take some brightness out.. the best thing for me is that because it looks so cool, it inspires me to play it... that silver sparkle which really looks like gold and silver together is so nice and looks like a real vintage guitar.. just inspires me and now Im back wasting hours at a time...its like meditation, 2 hours can go by in a second which tells me I have found a guitar that I really like. Could be a tiny bit lighter but ... love it
Thanks for another entertaining and informative video. It reminds me of why Jaguars are so fun and why, from time to time, I'll play one to the exclusion of all my other guitars for weeks at a time. It's worth giving flat-wound strings a try on your Jag for a change of pace, too.

So true. Making money in music is far tougher now versus the late 70s and 80s. Spending under $500 versus $1300 to go ‘entry’ level or mid level is always a no brainer

On most fender / squier guitars with a “ tone” or “strangle” switch , this switch works together with the “ tone-control” .., so try the switch in both positions and play with the tone-control to here more or less effect .
Two things on the Jaguar:
1) The strangle switch is as you said mostly inconsequential. That's why it's only included on "vintage" style reissues.
2) The Rhythm circuit doesn't sound the same as the neck pup on the lead circuit with everything dimed because the former is darker due to having a differently valued potentiometer than the lower tone pot has!
Lovely guitar! And yes, I use Lemon Oil all the time on both Ebony and Rosewood. Works really well to clean and condition the fretboard. The trick is to really work at it and get it all off after you apply it. Otherwise, it attracts dust - especially at the unused part of the neck. At least that's my experience. Another nice review!! @@theguitaristas There are two camps of folks that oppose lemon oil. The first say "if you look at the contents, it's not just lemon oil. It is mostly petroleum distillate, which you don't want to put on guitar wood because it will actually dry it out." These same people then recommend using mineral oil instead. Mineral oil -- ya know, the same "petroleum distillate" that they complain about being present in the Dunlop lemon oil. The Dunlop stuff is mostly mineral oil with a little bit of lemon oil/limonene in it. It smells good, and is also a decent cleaning agent (see: all the orange-based hand cleaners for grimy mechanics). The second camp say it's too acidic and will cause damage to frets/strings/finish. Probably true if one were using pure lemon oil (would also smell...waaaaaay too strong). These folks often recommend linseed oil instead. I had a guy setup a Strat that used his own home-brew conditioner that had a lot of linseed oil in it and it did exactly what he said it would do ... doesn't dry out fast like the Dunlop lemon oil. And instead I was left with a fretboard that just felt oily for...many, many, weeks.
In case you didn't know, those wire files are actually oxy acetelyne cutting and welding torch tip cleaners, but I suppose they do the job after a fashion. They are too easy to bend for my liking. As always, I enjoyed the video, thanks.
Colin. Dont apologise for the occasional plug. Compared to other channels you are like BBC.! A very informative review - up until now didn't know that much about Fender Jags keep up the good work. I always try ro get to lunch early on a Friday to see what you are up to . I will even forgive you for not recognizing that Strats rule .!
I used to have one of these and had to let it go a couple years ago when money was tight. It played well and I had picked up a couple of different pickguards to try out, but hadn't gotten around to it yet. I have a Japanese Jazzmaster from 93-94 in Oly White, and the Squier colors can be off from Fender sometimes. Like this feels more like Refrigerator White than Oly White. :)
Chicago Music Exchange has them in Silver Sparkle and Shell Pink currently tho, and that's definitely a consideration. Altho I have my eye on the faded pelham Epi SG you have done reviews on as I don't have an SG yet.
Wrap a bit of PTFE tape around the bridge posts and it will stop it dropping, bit fiddly but it works a treat.
Great video as always Colin. Not my general cup of tea guitar wise...far too many switches and nuances but can see why some love them. I agree re Fender quality. I've recently bought US made FSR Performer strat and my word it is excellent. Good to see the young uns giving love to Fenders in all their incarnations, and that's from normally a Gibson fan.
That's a beautiful Jag especially with the matching headstock. Something about that Olympic white color and that great tort guard that really is attractive. With your tips on set-up, this guitar has some possibilities. I think the key is realizing this guitar isn't the ideal rock and roll machine but it has its place when it is respected and not made out as something it wasn't intended for. Many people put flat wound strings on this and use it as a surf guitar machine. That's one possibility. But it is also a very versatile guitar for any other genre.

My first electric guitar was a squier tele that i bought in one of those guitar packs 10 or 14 years ago and i played it almost every day, that thing never felt like it needed a setup of any kind, it blows my mind because no other guitar that i've own to this day have been as stable as that particular tele, squiers are indeed alot of bang for the buck
If you hold the back of the trem unit where the strings attach you can push the arm fully into the socket which locates it and stops it falling out and swinging around.

Didn’t like the skinny neck, and put a fat Fender’51 on it. Now it’s my favorite guitar, mostly. Thanks for posting this one. I like the CVs I’ve seen.
I recently picked up a white Jazzmaster in this line. Other than frets that needed a polish it was great right out of the box. I've added a buzz buster to solve the bridge/string pop possible issue - although I have a light touch - the pick ups are spectacular. Fit and finish was above it's price point. Jaguars never really did it for me tone wise..and all those buttons....lol

Agree entirely that including a couple of small tools as required would be a big step forward in service at minimal cost to Fender. My MIM Fenders have arrived with truss rod allen keys and the appropriate allen key to adjust the bridge. I'm not sure with Squier being made in Asia if the tool required for the bridge would be 1,5mm or an Imperial size like the Fender instruments.

Hi Colin, I got to rewatch this one tonight. I've got a VOS Mexican 2018 Fender I got secondhand. If you ever get your hands on one of Marr's signatures, a comparison with a VOS would be interesting. Much as I love Johnny, I'm not convinced by his tele-style four-way alternative to the neck/bridge/strangle-switch on the lower bout of the 60s and 70s models. All the best

I just got my PINK Squier 70's Jaguar today, and spent about 4 hours turning it into a VERY nice guitar. I put loctite on all of the bridge threads, 11/50 strings, polished frets and fretboard, died the fretboard with ebony stain which turned it a dark rosewood color. I even took the bridge apart, and ground/filed a knife point on the pivot plate. It stays in tune perfectly, even after extreme whammy usage. WHat a damn fine guitar. But, like most classic vibe guitars, you show them a bit of love and they'll return it tenfold. It was unplayable out of the box, and now is my keeper offset...

Really enjoying the hell out of your videos Colin. I love my Jazzmaster and Jag to get those awesome surf tones. Can’t play Strats either cuz of the damn volume knob. But I’m quite happy with my offsets and my SGs.

@theguitaristas if you push the trem arm in with more force it will pop into the groove and won't fall out. It doesn't hold in place, but it won't fall out.
Edit: If you're not comfortable putting too much pressure on the trem unit you can always take the baseplate off and install the arm that way and you can see the groove.
0.5 degree shim in the neck pocket improves the angle over the bridge also put thread lock on the bridge posts stops it adjusting itself.
Now i bought it , i just swapped bridge and neck pickup,all 3 positions sound better now. I do not like when the neck is hotter. Middle position is a better mix( because hotter neck pu's overwhelm weaker bridge pu's.)
Distortion on bridge a bit fatter.I love it.

Maybe you could run a loop for three single single coils, the first this Jaguar, the second the Epiphone coil taped and the third the Gibson also coil taped. We could hear the difference between true single coil and tap age. Good luck hope this sounds like a good idea.

These guitars are have a sinking bridge problem but the best way I have found to fix this is to purchase some neoprene rubber washers about 1/2" in the outer diameter and with a 3/16" inner diameter hole by 1/16" thick, I did this and it took three of them per each post on the bridge and it was perfect and just the ticket for the action that I wanted on the guitar, so I hope this helps someone. For this guitar is a really good buy and in many ways it is made very well and therefore well worth the money also.
I was able to find an allen wrench at the local hardware store for 72 cents that was a 1.5 mil. So that was much easier than I had anticipated so all is not lost!.
Love your work Colin. Missed this one when it came out. Just watched it last night. Really enjoying the tokai series at the moment. Maybe you could hot up the jaguar in the future.... I love Fender Jaguars, I own two, one of them is the American Ultra Lux, and the other is a Mexican 60's modified HH, and they are amazing.
Great video Col. The CV are a great guitar. Prices have gone up a lot since their initial release, but then hasn’t everything.
The Lemon oil I believe is linseed oil with lemon fragrance. There are lots of manufacturers variations on these. I like the PRS branded version. (Magic Roundabout reference made me smile)

My Fender came with 10s. One of my favorite guitars even though it’s as heavy as my XJ in the garage.
Hello Colin, I've checked my 2017 SQ. Jaguar Vint. Modified and Squier schematics state the bypass filter switch (lowest on treble side) only works with both upper switches engaged. Barely hear a difference. One of the easiest mods is to take out the bypass and convert to phase reversal thereby creating an almost humbucker-esque tone with both pickups on. This should also work for the 21-22 models.
Can I just say, as someone that lives with osteoarthritis and has back problems, thank you thank you thank you for including a section on how much it weighs. Can't tell you how tricky it is to find the weight of a guitar before purchasing online sometimes.

@@theguitaristas I bought one of these by the way, based on your video, and I absolutely love it. I got the silver sparkle one, discounted because of a tiny chip in the paint. Over the moon. I sold my fender player mustang to fund it, and I have never looked back. Such a beaut.
