    For the jaguar pickup:
    What they wanted to do was to make the pickup a bit "hotter" than that of a strat. So by putting it in an enclosure like this one it changes the magnetic field a bit (like the plate under the tele pickup) and makes it tighter, changes the response.
    Upvote so the captain can see it?

      Incorrect, it's for shielding purposes

    • @rowlandstraylight
      @rowlandstraylight 3 роки тому +8

      The big steel wrap-around backplate on a jaguar pickup partly acts an RF shield, but because it's steel not nickel silver it massively increases the inductance of the pickup. The effect is similar to adding more turns of wire. The pickup has more output but sounds darker as guitar pickups behave as inductive low pass filters.

      My MIJ Jaguar HH special from 2004 is an absolute gem. I've owned it for nearly 20 years now, it's my only guitar and I love it truly and deeply. It doesn't have the tremolo, but does have Humbuckers and honestly it's a great guitar. I also love the Strat and I previously owned one which I had to sell during hard times, and have been thinking of buying another recently. Now though I'm leaning more and more into the view that the Jag is the perfect guitar.. I should get myself another, with the tremolo this time. Although.. I've never played a Jazzmaster, so I should do this.. it's great to be alive and have so much to try out and work for, that's one of the beauties of guitars and music.

I've been in places that have poor insulation for the mains, and a neighbor would be using an analogue TV, and behold, my Twin Reverb would pick up traces of what they'd be listening to. Also, if you've ever lived near a radio station's tower, you'd often get full ranges of FM spectrum bled out due to the power levels coming off it

    I have a '60s Jag that I bought second-hand when I was a clueless teenager in the '70s. Of course there was no internet in those days, and even written sources were almost non-existent, so I had to figure most of this stuff out on my own. I figured out the switching pretty quickly. But it took me a long time to understand why my Jag didn't sound like Les Paul or even a Strat, haha.
    The thing that really threw me was the mute. In those days I played exclusively with my fingers and hadn't yet learned how to palm-mute, so the purpose of the mute was mysterious to me. One thing I did figure out very quickly was that if you did try to use the mute, it threw the tuning a few cents sharp (as you can clearly hear in this video at 8:27), which even my untutored teenage self realized made it completely useless. I left mine on the guitar for years until the rubber got completely petrified, at which point a tech recommended that I remove it. (But he urged me to save it, which I did.)
    The thing that was even more mysterious was the "trem-lok", which I didn't figure out until the late 90s, when some very useful guides appeared on the internet. To this day, most techs that I've encountered don't understand it, and if you want to get your Jag (or Jazzmaster) properly set up, you have to find a tech who really understands how these things were meant to work. Of course it's still a pretty useless function; it was designed to help you stay in tune if you broke a string in the middle of a show. These days, if that happens, most of us just reach for our spare guitar. But I guess back in the 50s and early 60s, onstage spares were a luxury that even a lot of pros didn't have. I just like to have the trem-lok set up correctly solely so that I know my Jag is working the way it was meant to. :)

    Nicely done review. Jags are my favorite Fender guitars; I have a Marr Jag (white), and a MIJ Jag (black)...
    finally received my Fender Vintera '60s Jag in Ocean Turquoise after months of waiting.
    First pau ferro fretboard, was concerned it would be too light with orange tones; luckily mine looks dark like a light-mid rosewood with darker, almost black, long thin lines, almost reminds me of zebra wood. One of the nicest PF fretboards I've seen IMO.
    No sharp fret ends, everything looks and feels great, tuned it up and the set-up and intonation were almost perfect. Fit, finish, weight, balance, feel, all very good.
    My only complaint: why tortoise shell pickguard? Going to get a white pickguard for it, keep the plastic and sticker on the original pickguard and put it away for safe keeping, it's a purely aesthetic change.
    Well done, Fender!

    The last tune is killer! Great expression Lee! Leo brought the guitar out of the dark ages. Made them musical in every genre, and style. Made them comfortable and playable throughout the neck. Gave us many choices for our play. If there's a guitar hero, it certainly is Leo and his gang of coworkers. I have nearly every guitar brand available since 1958ish. Still the only style/brand that gets my soul moving is Fender and Squier. (Ok, maybe Gretch too). Thanks fellers! Please produce a Blues album together......

    I've played a Fender Jaguar damn near religiously for the past four years. The best gauge I've played are those new Ernie Ball Mondo Slinky's (10.5-52). Just enough thickness to feel right under the fingers, but slinky enough to get that short scale spank.
