Would love to see more Rings of Power content. I had very similar thoughts to you on this, and so many of my usual channels just seem to be going overboard in bashing it (not the usual culprits in raging against anything with women or PoC characters either, so it was surprising). It's like damn, I just want to discuss this thing I enjoyed and its been surprisingly hard to find spaces for that.
More RoP content it is! I've honestly been surprised by the bashing. Might not be everyone's cup of tea overall, but scenes like the orc fight in the kitchen - that was brilliantly TV!

I was concerned at the start - the beginning was very cheesy! And the CGI ice wall was hilariously bad, but I've warmed up to the show after being introduced to more characters. I like the dwarfs and the hobbits.... much more interesting than the elves as they actually have personalities haha
Totally agree with you about the dwarves and hobbits. In fairness, the elves aren't exactly full of personality in lotr either 😅 think it just comes with immortality

Nice vid mate. Spoilers for the first two episodes the show started off very very slow but picked up in the second ep. I really enjoyed all the hobbit scenes but my favourite was seeing Khazad Dum, loved their take on what having a friendship with an immortal being would be like for a mortal. How Elrond basically missed all of Durins biggest moments of his life just because he just let time slip away from him I thought was a really interesting take. Also now we know the dwarf Kingdom is Khazad Dum we’re definitely going to see them waking up Durins bane and it’s going to be awesome in a tragic way 😂😂. I know we saw the Balrog in the trailer but I thought it was going to be a flashback to the war of wrath or something, but going by the pretty harsh cut aways to pretty important moments I don’t think they have any of the rights 😂😂 oh also I’m certain the stranger is one of the wizards.
Thanks! I really liked the immortal angle too. I think the show is really exploring what it must be like being an elf, which is unique for the adaptations. I like your theory about Durin's bane, and totally agree with you about the stranger!
@@ElliotEdits thanks man, I also have a theory that the kid who found the morgul blade is going to be corrupted by Sauron in later seasons and will become one of the Ring Wraiths, a bit of an out there theory but I can just see it happening.
im just so very confused, galadriel is so regal that they even ask for a lock of her hair in the original lord of the rings, but here she is 1 man army. I dont know why a well written female character has to become masculine. if you can add in black hobbits and elfs, you can just write a new female elf doing x,y and z you dont have to change the character of one of the most famous character in the serie- she was always Galadriel, timeless and divine this just feels wrong.
I enjoyed it in general but I haven't read the Tolkien lore so can't comment on it's compatibility with that. Did you notice that some of the CGI just seemed a bit... wrong. For example, when they were on the ice wall and some of the face closeups. Maybe it was the 4K TV but it almost looked so perfect to the point it didn't seem 'real'.
It's nice to see a more positive well thought review of this series, amongst the 90% of hateful ones. Please do more content about Rings of Power (I hope your comment section doesn't get invaded by orcs)

@@ElliotEdits perhaps it's because when the fans originally sounded their concern they were immediately bashed and dismissed by everyone as some form of either racist or sexist. But if you listen carefully to why they dislike it, its because characters like galadriel are made into an elven eowen and doesn't fit her character. Celebrimbor was not only more naturally and written to be the friend and close with the dwarves given he built his relationship next door but he was also a craftsman and it made sense, having him stand outside and act as if he has no reap relationship to durin given he literally gave him the strongest ring off all the dwarves rings now doesn't make as much sense. Also galadriels arc of being a warrior instance of sauron is stealing from other important elven characters and has completely changed the story which is what fans were hoping to see, then add that Tom shippey suddenly departed from the show as an expert left them feeling more and more worried, add that they claimed at first they had the rights to sillmarillion then walked it back just left fans feeling this was going to be lotr in name only and that the story. Most fan critics who dislike this even say that the orcs look good sets and backdrops look the part and the music ofc is wonderful because those people also worked on the Jackson films so we know they're good at helping create that atmosphere and fleshing out middle earth as a relm.. its for us the story and characters and sometimes acting that let's it down, and I can see what they mean. I was so excited when I first heard a Lotr series set in the second age was to be made and then as time went by my hope started to fade but I tried to stay positive but after watching the first two episodes I felt almost betrayed, I know that may sound harsh but as much as ibtried to love this show I was so disappointed, I hope it gets better but if the Foundational 2 episodes are like that I doubt I will be watching anymore.. as a comparison when I watched vikings I was gripped from beginning with other series I enjoy, I was gripped from the first episodes. If people like it I have no problem with it, but for me, I think I will just go read the silmarillion again instead of watching this series but to like this show is ok and I think due to the polarising of fans early on, treating them as if they're terrible because they dared to say it doesn't feel like tolkien is as bad as fans saying if you liked it you're an idiot. Keep up the good work, also I loved your stuff on celtic mythology I'm a fan of researching and discovering about ancient mythologies like celtic. It's hard to pick a favourite though as I also love summerian and the tales of the anu enlil and enki as they have similarities with the Egyptian too. I hope your channel grows as it seems a very underrated channel imo. Have a great day 👍

I know there are Tolkien fans out there who do have legitimate criticism, and in some ways the review bombers and trolls drown out those voices as well whilst trying to silence anyone who is enjoying the show. Personally I would love to discuss RoP with someone who didn't like it as much as I did. I think we came at it from different ends, I was quite sceptical in the build up, and so was pleasantly surprised... But it's early days, lots of episodes to go before I can say it's a good or bad show. Thank you for your continued support! Hope your day is equally great!
You have to be smoking crack if you believe that this was good ngl besides the cgi, music maybe and some of the props/costumes (orcs) and the one conversation elrond has with celebrimbor it is a pool of vomit on tolkiens work and outright embarrassing. Incredible action set pieces? Like when she jumps off a sword and single-handedly kills the troll, what a joke. Story is a joke, pacing is a joke, dialogue is like it was written by a third grader. Dwarves and hobbits are there to be comical and funny all the time hahaha so funny look he has a Scottish accent. Hobbits shouldn't even be in this but whatever and we also got the now mandatory elf-human romance because this box really had to be checked and it's just as fucking bad and uninteresting as it was in the hobbit. It's just a massive disappointment. Galadriel is terrible, they turned her from wise elf royalty into prequal yoda jumping around with her lightsaber.
Could have been all the pipe-weed they were handing out at the premier, but I enjoyed the hell out of it! Not perfect by far, but all I can see them doing is adding depth to Galadriel's character - exploring what it is to be an immortal... But each to their own. Do you think you'll watch episode 3?

As for Galadriel, she went from a prideful, elegant, composed, tall lady that she was way before the third age to a bullied, insecure, headstrong teenager girl who punches walls and swings daggers and swords around and has so little prestige and esteem that even her own troops abandon her plus she doesn't realize that she would have no chance against Sauron, nobody tells her either it's like everyone accepts that she is mentally disabled now.

Honestly, I love that we're seeing her character grow into the regal version we see in LotR.
