Ya'll, Zach wasn't wrong! They did use forced perspective to get Meryl Streep to look really tall. They also lowered countertops, made sets smaller, and put her in heels. It sounds like a lot of effort went in to maintaining the illusion.

Listen, I looooove me some Meryl Streep and Amy Adams is a cutie pie - but they did Julia Childs dirty in this movie. It's more of a caricature of who she was than who she REALLY was. The woman was a genuine bad ass. If you want to find out who she REALLY was, please, please, please read her autobiography called, "My Life in France". She had such a beautifully diverse and colorful life, the movie shows like .5%.
Edit: Two things: 1) Ignoring all of Julia Child's other massive accomplishments - she made French Cooking accessible for the Western world AND (at the same freaking time) set a new standard for accuracy in cookbooks. Before Julia Childs, cookbooks were difficult to interpret and often blatantly wrong in their measurements. We're so comfortable today because if a recipe doesn't turn out, we know that 99% of the time it's user error. Before Julia Childs, it was the recipe that was a failure.
    2) And this to me is so, so sad. Julia Childs didn't think highly of herself. She was a spy, she learned French as an ADULT, she lived all over the world - but in her writings she talks about how she wishes she was more serious minded, had more depth to her education and intelligence. So the fact that Julie and Julia sketched her as this strange woman with a bizarre laugh and weird way of saying "butter" - honestly it breaks my heart.

I don’t think they did her dirty, just didn’t show the full spectrum of who she was. To me they portray her that way bc amy adam’s character imagines her to be that way. Just lively and sweet and a genuinely good person. It’s hard to convey every facet of someone’s personality in a movie like this. She really was such an amazing woman it’d be hard to capture everything! 🥹💕

I mean we can finish out the year and call it #tucciyear… I don’t think anyone would be opposed. ALSO- to Kelsey’s insistence that Tucci is gay - as a gay woman, I totally totally get wanting such an icon of kindness and joy that way. But unfortunately, I believe him when he says he’s not. That got me thinking about why we’re pining so hard for it .. I think it’s because of the aforementioned kindness and joy that he exudes that makes him feel homey but also non-threatening and just safe in a world/time where the LGBTQ+ community feel anything but. Just my personal thoughts

Ahhhh Garrick mentioning The Arrival! I became a linguist because of that movie! Amy Adams is severely underrated imo. Her playing Lois in the Superman movies, Leap Year, Julie and Julia, etc… every single time she blows my mind. Trouble with the curve is also a great movie. These movies, they truly don’t deserve the adjectives good or ‘feel good’. I do certainly feel good after watching Julie & Julia, but it’s an amazing story! It’s a great movie! I love the movie, hard not to love a movie when it’s casted so perfectly like that. And I completely agree, Hollywood has turned into where filming and cgi has become so important, and the writing has become bigger and complex. Simple movies like this have been severely lowered into a ‘Hallmark/Lifetime’ expertise only. I am slightly curious with the rise of booktok and these books being produced into movies (excluding fifty shades, twilight, hunger games) of how the industry is going to change. Even though The Hating Game flopped (I thought it was fine, the script slacked but cast was great) To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han, I guess could be considered the start but they are definitely teenager demographic aimed. So, I’m very curious of how Colleen Hover books that are being adapted if it’s going to reach early 2000’s romance/drama/romcom success. I’m sure in it’s own way it will reach “success” but will they reach “classic” title success or just another trendy watch? But then we walk into this spiral of having to redefine all of this “classic” title now that social media plays such a big part.

I saw behind the scenes for this movie and they would make the floor lower for the other actors to make Meryl look taller.

I agree with this 💯, not a single moment in this movie is dull. I would always watch this from start to finish. A total classic!

Love movies like this. Other films that have this wholesome vibe that I highly recommend are Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day and Mrs. Harris goes to Paris.

Kelsey my love, sometimes people are autistic or have ADHD or have ARFID and don't try foods that are very common! It's absolutely bizarre to find out, trust me; one of my good friends from high school is 27 and has NEVER had a hamburger OR soda. NEVER. It's insanity. Just wanted to give you some explanations not related to accessibility of eggs!!

Oh, I did not try eggs until I was 17. I had massive food phobia that started as soon as my parents tried feeding me baby food. I did eventually overcome the phobia and can now say I very much love eggs.

And also, I would have never started with a poached egg… My eggs had to be scrambled and completely dry with nothing on them.

I bet you weren't expecting to find anyone who actually doesn't eat eggs and hasn't ever really eaten them in their most basic form but here I am. I'm insanely picky and can't bring myself to eat things that look or smell unfamiliar and are far from things I already know I like. Eggs are just one of those things (and when things like french toast are too eggy it drives me absolutely nuts so I feel justified).
