Thibs always has his defenses schemed up well, what makes this defense special is the dedication to stay moving, fight through screens, rotate and help the entire game and it starts from the top down. Brunson is the rare superstar that doesnt just try on defense, he works hard and I think having Divencenzo and Hart there helps because they have the chemistry as well as championship pedigree as college teammates. This team might be one piece away from true contention. Shades of the early 00s pistons before they got rasheed wallace midseason one year and won a title despite having to play a super team in the finals. Sometimes tslent can be overcome by team chemistry, elite defense and having a certified bucket (Brunson is Billups but better) surrounded by very good and well balanced TEAM players on offense. Those pistons teams, the 2011 Mavs and the olajuwon rockets come to mind immediately. The 01 76ers with AI and maybe even the miami heat last year are couple similar teams that made a run to the finals but ultimately lost.
I know this ain't a Glenn Rivers video, but the 08 Celtics won a ring despite him coaching. More importantly thanks to Thibs, he was an assistant defensive coach for that team.

Honestly a lot of these threes that are getting shot are pretty open; but I suppose the point here is Thibodeau knows that, despite the extreme increase in threes being taken, there are still very few players who are actually efficient shooting from 3. Hence the decision to have a guy sit in the paint to stop the 2, relatively far from his man sitting in the corner for 3. Thibodeau would rather the kick out.
Yeah, that’s why you have to load up on quality shooters but no one has ever done the Dwight Howard Magic build. Even my 76ers barely have 2 good shooters on the floor at all times
Exactly. There were frustrating times over the past couple of years, where the Knicks seemingly left lots of wide open 3's, but between the continuity of years of installing Thibs' system and the tweaks to the roster, just about everyone buys in and runs out to contest the open 3's. Guys like Hart, Donte, McBride have tons of stamina and always contest. Achiuwa brings length off the bench, Hartenstein and Mitch rim protect. And OG is OG. Even Brunson makes up for his deficiencies with hustle and smart play.

New York ended up in second, a bet I should have made when the trade was made, but I'm not surprised. They are the one team that worries me and for good reason.
