  • The track I'm playing to is from a recording by Count Basie and his Orchestra circa 1938 and was the best viewed video of mine on the now defunct Next Level Chops UA-cam channel. In it's day it achieved over a million views, 1.1M to be exact!
However, although it was one of my favourite tunes to play with my Swing Orchestra at the time, I didn't consider this version worthy of putting on the channel mainly as it was not the most appropriate drum kit for it. The drum set is in fact a British Carlton make from the 1930's with a Compaksol Console and a beautiful condition Carlton Prince snare drum which came in it's original box. Right period but I would have preferred to have used an American kit but hey ho, it still did ok eh?
Fingers crossed that with your help we can get a good few views this time but I doubt if will ever get quite as many as before? Anyway, I hope you enjoy it and please do subscribe if you haven't already.
    Sticks x

When Basie recorded this tune for the 1st time, Jo Jones had temple-blocks on his kit!
