It was no use getting mad. I just had to figure out what all I had to do. It sucked though. It's a pretty helpless feeling to realize the bike is gone. On a trip like this, the bike is the thing it is what makes it all possible.
Ya. Though I still kick myself. The lock was in the hotel room with me. I just trusted when they insured me parking was safe, and for some reason didn't put the lock on. Lesson learned.
What a colossal pain having to go through this. I am very glad you did not give up on your trip despite this very painful event. You could not have had a better set of friends, and friends of friends. I am so glad they took care of you. I look forward to your adventure continuing, and seeing your new ride!
I doubt anything will ever be recovered. I have moved on and my trip continues on a new bike. I just hope to be allowed back in Mexico. All the paperwork is filed, it is just waiting now.

Honestly. The time after this happened was some of my favorite time in Mexico. I met the best people who went so far out of their way to help me, it is humbling. It just sucks I had to lose a bike in the process of it all.

Ya. I was very lucky to get the help and meet the people I did. That is really the silver lining around this whole thing, and I feel so lucky to have spent the time I did with them.
It was bad enough coming out to my driveway one morning to find my ZX-14R was stolen, but I can hardly imagine having to go through that in a different country. I'm glad you found some allies to help you navigate through it all. It sounds like a nightmare of red tape.
It was. I couldn't have done it without the help. The people I met were amazing and the amount of time they spent helping me and their kindness was truly amazing.
It was. But as you will see, I landed on my feet. I got so lucky with the people I met, and spent the next month with, in Mexico. And I am back at it. It just sucks that it happened.
I heard about the theft, either thru one if your videos or thru the "Walt in Pa." discord group, and was wondering how it was all playing out. Wow! What a mess! Hope it all gets sorted out quickly for you without too much expense. Sorry you have to go thru this but the situation might end up being helpful to other motorcyclists that decide to cross the border, should they have a similer thing happen. I can't believe I didn't either, I had the locks in the hotel room, and for some reason that night I didn't do it, and was assured it was secure and the gate would be locked. I am well aware of how easy it was for them, the steering was locked, all he did was a quick kick to the bars and that was broken.

The red tape is crazy and no one wanted to do the paperwork. With the language barrier I was sort of in a spot that I just had to hope the people helping me were getting the right stuff. I do intend to go back to Mexico, so I wanted to make sure I got the paperwork done right.

I don't know that, that is true. Plenty of places this could have happened, not just Mexico. I got unlucky, and I made a mistake of not putting the locks on the bike thinking the hotel parking was going to be locked.
Yea buddy, iam sorry for your personal lose, but seriously you did not do good job,as you said yourself, in securing that bike especially in such a corrupt crime ridden place, definitely should had an alarm disc lock 20$ and a nice u bolt high viz lock both with alarms, and a GPS tracker at very least, I hope justice is served on these crooks
Ya. It was a gut shot for sure. I couldn't really process it all when I realized the bike wasn't there. But, I got great experiences out of it, and I'm still traveling.
Almost every single rider I see in UA-cam, like Itchyboots, Charly Sinewan, Soy Tribu and many more, they always stayed at hotels with a closed portal. Never trust to much your instincts, use your common sense in this case, IT IS MEXICO FOR GOD'S SAKE!!! Sorry for the lost!
For sure. The portal had a gate. The problem was the gate was opened and left open sometime in the night. It is still my bad, I should have also locked up the bike. I know better and for some reason didn't do it that night. It was a costly mistake for sure.

Cars have to as well. The permit is so you don't sell the vehicle without paying taxes. I imported it saying I would leave the country with it.

For sure I should have done more. I have a disk lock with alarm and a cable lock for the rear wheel. I use them even in hotel lots now.
