we need to redefine success

- Living a successful life sounds like a solid goal that would definitely make us feel good. But what does success actually mean? And how are we usually trying to reach it? How much does it actually have to do with money and should we maybe redefine it to find a batter and more ethical way to success?

Recently I’ve realised that my body/heart/soul knows what it wants, and what will bring me joy, and all I have to do is intentionally check in and listen. To me, this is a success.
Wise words! Everything comes at a “price”. Corporations have no soul. People have soul.
I love what you say about "beauty work," because it can be a LOT of time AND money spent on not even looking "beautiful," but just "okay." We often say we do it for ourselves without questioning it deeply (speaking to my past self!)
your a wise young woman... im 85 and your teaching me
That's a him, not a her.
Lia, I always appreciate your integrity and thoughtfulness 😊
Thank you for the video! :)
It really resonated with me
Often I'm struggling internally about how my face looks and I feel pressure to wear makeup
but I truly believe all people should be able to not wear makeup if they wish to and not be considered unprofessional
I'm happy you talk about it, I feel less alone :D
what a thought-provoking video, lia. i totally agree with your points and i am also living in a way similar to you: thoughtfully minimal, but not for the sake of being minimal, but for the sake of regaining and maintaining sanity and peace. i also reject many peoples' ideas of beauty and beauty standards by not shaving or wearing cosmetics, not having procedures done, and i buzzed my hair over a year ago after wanting to for many years. my hair was very long and it was so relieving to remove it. i also wear whatever is comfortable to me instead of wearing something to appease someone else. basically, i reject performative femininity not only to lead by my actions in hopes to remind women they don't have to stick to the patriarchal status quo, but also because it feels so good for ME. i feel more like myself this way and i wish i had done it all sooner. anyway, i've been watching your videos for several years now and this is my first time commenting. in my unimportant opinion, i think you look great with long or short hair. the buzz looks so good on you and i'm excited to see it return.
Hello Lia. I like how you have the courage to mention the word Capitalism because it's the elephant in the room, isn't it. It's a taboo topic that nobody ever talks about, especially in English speaking countries and yet, if you're going to talk about saving the planet or to stop climate change, it's impossible to ignore. I believe that Capitalism is destroying planet earth and I'm worried that by the time people realise this, it will be too late. We need to change the economic system globally to one that doesn't depend on consumerism and protects the environment which we need to survive. I worry about the future of our kids because I don't think most people realise just how bad things are. It seems to me that globally people are running on a hamster wheel and nobody is stopping to think why they're actually doing what they're doing. And do I know what our new economic system should be? No I don't. Like you, I think it should be a system that distributes wealth equally to all humans, maybe with a universal wage, respects and protects nature and the habitats of our fellow animals. All this without violence. Could this be possible? It's hard to say because human history is a history of violence, just look at what's happening around the world, history repeating itself over and over. It's hard to be optimistic. Anyway, your videos are thought provoking, it must be all that reading you do, it just goes to show that reading translates into knowledge and intelligence. If only more people would read instead of shopping and/or fighting! ❤🌹🍀
Less greed 🌱more freadom😊
😊
You are so smart Lia. And I mean it, also I know it sound cheesy. But your point of view is so accurate to the situation, you notice things as they truly are and you can talk about them very clearly and understandable. You trigger this "clik" in peoples heads.
I completely agree with you.
Great points! Thanks ☺️
This is exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you. 🌻🙏🏼
Always love and appreciate your perspective. It is always on par with mine, but you express it so well!
Just here, loving your channel.
Very well said. Thanks!
I love your channel! So peaceful and meaningful
Slow is smooth and smooth is fast... ;) :)
I hate the pressure put on women to be or look a certain way. It is often costly and time wasting for a limited return. Obviously, women need to respect and look after themselves, including their mental health, but not just purely to fit in to conventional norms and societal conventions that don’t benefit or serve them in the long run. Consumerism and capitalism forces certain narratives, which I think we should all asses, question and only comply with if we personally see they are of benefit. So often women are conditioned from an early age to be a certain way for others more than for themselves. Women should reclaim their time, money, looks, desires and possessions for their own fulfilment and happiness; and not just to benefit some corporatisation strategies or people they don’t even know.
That's a really good topic , Lia ! thank you
Love your views on what's important in life!
All the Temu ads surrounding this post really highlight your points! 🙃

"Saving time" is one of the worst capitalist lies that exists. Can you take some time, stuff it in a box and go back and reclaim it sometime? No. All you can do is use your time, make better decisions about how to use it.
The problem these days is that people have to work extremely hard and long hours just to get by. I don't think that those people work that much to have "preached success". Its easy to live slow if you dont have a boss breathing down your neck or dont know how you pay rent next month. Its easy to reject beauty standards if your look is not connected to your standing in the office. Tbh hearing this comes off kinda detached from reality.
I am not sure you saw the whole video, but I mentioned that exact problem more than once. And I said that I am aware that many of us are under stress and pressure just to get by. And that the most important thing is to work for equality and a world where a full time job is always enough to live of. Because you are never the problem if you are working more than 40 hours a week and don't have enough to get by.
@@ecofriendlia yes I know you adressed it, but what rubbed me the wrong way was that it sounded like most people are chasing careers to buy things they don't need and prefer shallow beauty standards and status objects over peace and it does not sound like the realistic everyday person to me, but like a stereotype you'd see in a movie or series. You acknowledged that some people struggle and while I would dare to say that many people struggle.
some people DO have certain jobs to make more money to acquire more material items they don't need. and a lot of people DO have shallow and rigid ideas of beauty; if they didn't cosmetic companies and plastic surgery wouldn't be such a successful industry. it's ironic how out of touch your comments towards lia are and how much you're grasping at things that aren't even there. also, some people struggling is easily synonymous with many people struggling. you didn't really dismantle anything there.
@@l.2008 Of course there are people who earn lots of money and enjoy having more stuff than others. What I criticized was the claim that "people are told to chase careers to fulfill shallow beauty standards" who tells that to people? Their parents? Teachers? Who are we to judge what is shallow or what people do or dont need? Is ice cream an unnecessary luxury? Is the removal of leg hair shallow? Where does the stuff thats ok end and where does shallow and unnecessary start? Who walks around telling people to chase careers only to buy stuff they dont need? Do people tell you to get a good career? Yes, probably your parents or teachers who want you to be able to have all the options in life. Do people tell you to consume? Yes, but those are influencers and compamy ads, those are not the same people who tell you to get a good career.
@@happytofu5 to be fair… I do see this kind of person you described, everywhere. They don’t even seem happy with all the excess, and don’t understand they just look strange (lip filler etc) actually not all countries are the same; maybe you live somewhere that isn’t like where I live? 🇬🇧
