Vayakhel - “And He Assembled..” Exodus 35:1 - 38:20 After the incident with the Golden Calf, those who remained were assembled together by Moses. This renewed kahal, or ‘assembled congregation’, was given a new opportunity to express their worship and restitution towards God. The children of Israel were commanded to bring contributions for the construction of the holy tabernacle. The people begin by bringing various items and many goods are brought, from gold and silver, to goat’s hair and spices. Much is brought and the work of the people greatly increases, offerings keep coming each day until finally an order is sent throughout the camp to stop giving as there is more than enough to complete the construction of the tabernacle. Later, the fine details of the furnishings that make up the tabernacle are revealed and we finally see how the craftsmen who were divinely gifted to produce the many components are given wisdom and understanding to assist in the making of God’s holy dwelling-place. ******* *More Information* Want to learn more? I believe in fact that shabbat has been kept from the very beginning even in the garden of eden. First of all, we know, God is the same yesterday today. And forever we know he does not change.Malachi tells us that .... Second of all when he created us the very next day was a rest day ..... That's what they spent their time doing the very next day of their being alive.... And thirdly, shabbat, it's all about our creator and recognizing that we are created by Him and in his image. It makes sense, then, that it's been there from the very beginning. So when moses was talking to the children of israel and started with the sabbath I think it was more of a reminder than a teaching of anythjng new.
