I thought I'd only watch the first 20 or 30 seconds -- just to see what indoor kiting was. Ended up watching the whole thing because of the complete dedication and sincerity this guy has for his craft.
I never realised this was a thing... Nor would I have deemed it possible. Amazing what skills and manually created airflows can do to, an otherwise, lifeless kite. Simply incredible.
Very Nice! Your timing is really good. I like the touches to the floor on the creschendos. I've flown quad line, outdoor kites, they're challenging enough with wind, I can imagine the practice it take to go windless.
This is one of the most inspirational videos I have seen, striving to surpass Spencer is my motivation this year. Scratch all my previous new years resolutions as I now have one and that is to use my currently being delivered kite to beat nay destroy Mr Watson in the sport he has made self-conscious discomfit to the performance I will deliver.
I've always wanted to get into indoor kite, I used to do indoor and outdoor guard along with tons of ballet so I'd probably enjoy it. You however, are incredible at it, don't ever stop flying.
This particular video was taken from the Windless Kite Festival in Long Beach, WA. There are a few events in the Pacific NorthWest, and a couple on the east coast that I am aware of. All US competition is sanctioned through the AKA, and you should be able to find more info at kite dot org.
This is like a ballet with a dragon. Very nice. When the music kicked up a notch I just laughed high in amazement. How are these made? Must be ultra light things with carbon fiber rods?
I never knew this event existed. I presume the kites are made of ultra light weight materials so the walking speed stays low enough to keep them in the air right? That was fun to watch!
Never thought I'd hear Paint It Black in an indoor kite flying competition, then again, I never thought I'd be watching an indoor kite flying competition.
Okay... wait... WHAT KIND OF SORCERY IS THIS?!? That was stunning. Very few people in this world can translate music into motion, and this guy is one. Wicked song choice too, I think I like it better than the original.
I just want to point out that dislike does not mean do not like. In other words, if you are indifferent to this video, you do not dislike it. You merely do not like it. Dislike means to detest whereas do not like does not imply any amount of loathing.
I am trying to make a clear connection between the movement of the kite and the patterns in the music. If a music piece is too textured, the main patterns become less prominent, and it becomes less obvious the the kite is in fact flying to the music.
This is so cool!! It kind of seems like indoor color guard in a way. :) I honestly don't know what everyone's problem is, this is just one person's creative outlet. Besides, stuff like this is actually pretty hard and I speak from experience. Spencer Watson you are awesome in my book! Keep up the great performances! :)
Proud to have Spencer as a teammate on iQuad (see his shirt), try a search for "iQuad Bohemian Lincoln City" or take a look on the Team iQuad website for more info about Spencer "Watty" Watson. ;)
The clapping is actually encouraged. Part of the score is based on entertainment value. The clapping aids the overall score, so the audience is encouraged to clap if they see something they like.
Dang I will honestly say that was the coolest kite thing I've ever watched.
I thought I'd only watch the first 20 or 30 seconds -- just to see what indoor kiting was. Ended up watching the whole thing because of the complete dedication and sincerity this guy has for his craft.
Wow, this was actually really expressive and beautiful

Easily the best indoor kite flying video I have ever seen.
"Why yes, I am flying a kite indoors synched to an orchestral version of Paint it Black."
Wow that was really awesome!! The way he moved the kite made it look alive plus the epic soundtrack paint it black :)
this is awesome !
so much hard work, time, dedication ! i hope you won
The most amazing video i've seen in a while. A wonderful ballet.
thanks for coming out. i know your parents might not understand but good for you.
i did not know that existed, have no idea how hard it is to do what you have done there, but it's awesome!
I didn't even know such competitions existed, but the whole 4 minutes I was completely breathless. MAD SKILLZ YOU GOT THERE.
You are an artistic pilot :-)
Thank's for the show!

I loved the instrumental version of "Paint it Black," and awesome job with the kite!
Nailed it. Never seen a kite flying indoors but you deserved your 1st place for sure!!
How did I not know this existed! That was awesome!!
Bwaaaaa! AWESOME!!! I have never seen a competition like this and I would love to learn how to do it.
How cool! I had no idea what to expect. This is actually quite impressive!
Most excellent! I'll have to watch one of these events if they come around to my part of the country as this video was A LOT of fun to watch.
I never realized that my cousin was so awesome. I didn't see this when it came out initially. Making a kite fly without wind is pretty cool. :P
I didn't even know kites still existed, let alone had cool events like this. Awesome routine.
That's pretty sweet. I can't fly a kite on a windy day, let alone indoors! Good job.
This is the last video I thought I would see a Starcraft reference. Well done!
I must say, I've never heard of anything like this, but this was spectacular! Very impressive :)
brought a tear to my eye! great flying and awesome music
I've always wanted to get into indoor kite, I used to do indoor and outdoor guard along with tons of ballet so I'd probably enjoy it. You however, are incredible at it, don't ever stop flying.
The thing that takes the performance to the next level is the amazing musical piece.
yes, performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. The album is called Classic Rock
Awesome! It's amazing what people can do when they put their dedication into it.

this is badass, and i have no idea whats going on. this kid put a lot of time and effort into this and he is very talented
Way awesome. My new hobby. 3 questions, what model rev, how long are the strings, how long have you been practicing?
I never realized Apocolyptica did a cover. Thank you very much :)
For all of those looking for the song it is by Apocalyptica - "paint it black".
Originally a Rolling Stones song with the same title.
Glad you know him personally, however I doubt he would appreciate you sharing this with us.
This is like a ballet with a dragon. Very nice. When the music kicked up a notch I just laughed high in amazement. How are these made? Must be ultra light things with carbon fiber rods?
.....Is that Paint it Black playing in the background? Epic.
Must admit, that was pretty cool. Great job, mate
Very talented, thanks for the video.
Beautiful. Thank you for posting.
I never knew this event existed. I presume the kites are made of ultra light weight materials so the walking speed stays low enough to keep them in the air right? That was fun to watch!
Great job Napoleon. Pedro is crying tears of happiness.
Never thought I'd hear Paint It Black in an indoor kite flying competition, then again, I never thought I'd be watching an indoor kite flying competition.
Iam so proud of my Grandson doing this , Love ya Grampa
There's no worse feeling than showing up at the rec center to play some ball only to find there's a windless indoor kite competition happening.
Okay... wait... WHAT KIND OF SORCERY IS THIS?!? That was stunning. Very few people in this world can translate music into motion, and this guy is one. Wicked song choice too, I think I like it better than the original.
The event consists of more than just this competition. It is the Windless Kite Festival after all.
Awesome Job, Spence!!! Keep rockin' it, mister!
I didn't know this existed.. Well done.
He did a great job. I enjoyed the video.
Great job Spence!!! Theresa looks so proud! Its adorable!!!
If a man enjoys what he does well, then who am I to judge? Awesome job man!!
This is kinda awesome! Well done dude!
EDP?
That's awesome! I didn't know this even existed!
An editor here... I saw no problem with the edit, there were not that many cuts... easy to watch :)

officially over a million views. this is what mtp studios does.
who knew indoor kite flying could be so awesome.
the cargo pants was really the cherry on top
I am trying to make a clear connection between the movement of the kite and the patterns in the music. If a music piece is too textured, the main patterns become less prominent, and it becomes less obvious the the kite is in fact flying to the music.
Fantastic music too - which version of Paint it Black is this?
Really graceful! That was pretty cool.
Thank you!
That was sick actually... nice work
This is so cool!! It kind of seems like indoor color guard in a way. :)
I honestly don't know what everyone's problem is, this is just one person's creative outlet. Besides, stuff like this is actually pretty hard and I speak from experience. Spencer Watson you are awesome in my book! Keep up the great performances! :)
Great. I'm watching indoor kite completions on UA-cam. I'm going to die alone.
This is a Rev Indoor on 10ft x 50lb lines. I have been flying for 7 years.
Totally awesome! Who knew??
That was incredible! I've always thought windless kites were awesome.
"Whatever you are, be a good one"...Awesome show, never knew this existed.
Gee son, I'm sorry I couldn't make it to your kite ballet thing....you do!
This is the first time I actually see this. So I have nothing to compare with. But I think this is very good and he must be a pro. :)
I clapped when it finished before realising I was all alone in my room.
That was so totally awesome!!!
this made me cry... tears of joy
When did this become a thing ? I got a better question for you, why did this become a thing ?
Proud to have Spencer as a teammate on iQuad (see his shirt), try a search for "iQuad Bohemian Lincoln City" or take a look on the Team iQuad website for more info about Spencer "Watty" Watson. ;)
What's with the orchestral version of Paint it black? I like it :)
4 minutes of my life I will never get back.
This was strangely fascinating to watch.
Interesting video, had me mesmerized.
Wow! For everyone who has something negative to say, go do that better than he did then! Good for you Spencer! That was amazing!!
I didn't even know this was a thing. Pretty cool!
nice.. never knew there was indoor kite competitions. where can I find/attend/ practice?
This is cool, I've never seen anything like it before.
Is that good or bad? Kinda having trouble deciphering that reply.
were the crowd sounds dubbed or are there actually like 5-10 people standing behind the camera?
He's so talented. I think he's ready for the big stage.
is freestyle canoeing a thing cuz that sounds epically awesome!
The clapping is actually encouraged. Part of the score is based on entertainment value. The clapping aids the overall score, so the audience is encouraged to clap if they see something they like.
nice work!
Side note to video editor: too many camera changes can make something hard to watch.
I found the close-up cuts to be highly distracting.
I wonder how long it took him to learn that
I was expecting the kid to pull off a double back flip over the kite. Then I would have been stunned!
This video was shot in Long Beach, Washington at an event created by the World Kite Museum and the American Kitefliers Association. Come visit us!
what is this song? it sounds familiar (great performance BTW)
Excellent job, Spencer.
