actually for the montreal canadiens being on the 4th year of a rebuild AND being in the mix is actually a pretty good timeline considering a lot of teams tried to rebuild and were (or are still) incapable of being in the mix or dominant after 6+ years. Also Demidov, Reinbacher, Michael Hage and Owen Beck have a pretty good chance of making the team next year, i'd say their run is only getting started. always fun listening to you guys as a Canadiens fan

That's the thing most people missed last spring. That wasn't his first run in with migraines, as they are the reason he started wearing the tinted visor at the beginning of the year. He's been playing through it for years, so for them to keep him out of playoff games, they had to be pretty severe.

All I did was turn off the game at the buzzer and said oh well that sucks, I get it the team sucked and they need to build a team of goal scorers and not based on chemistry. Every gold medal we won was based on the best player available. It's the coach's fault and the management, not the kids fault.

All the stuff stewing in their mind gets sent through an amplifier when they type it out and they manifest so much disgusting hate. The issue is that they also lose track of what’s online normal and what’s real world normal, so it creeps into more peoples daily lives.

    Hello from Sweden!
I love listening to you guys! I agree with you that Dave Cameron did not do his best work and seemed very arrogant during the tournament. But it was not his first time as a head coach for Canada U20.
He was headcoach 2011 during the legendary final versus Russia when Tarasenko, Kuznetsov and Panarin turned 0-3 to a 5-3 win for Russia.
2022 when Canada won Gold in World Juniors, he was also the headcoach, so this was his third time.
You talked like it was his first chance, because he has been coach for 10 years in the junior leagues, so just wanted to point it out. :)
But I totally agree with the lack of talent in the squad they choose to have for the tournament, and the lack of chemistry on the ice. (Practice together helps with that). :)

The Hathaway deal also included the Caps taking all of Smith’s salary clearing $1.6M off their books just enough to fit Orlov. Those deals are connected regardless of them being 2 deals on puckpedia. I'll start this with a caveat, I don't know the inner workings of Hockey Canada, but Beckett Sennecke has represented Canada before. He was on Team White at the U-17, so I don't know if it is as simple as "they don't like him". We see this mandate to not take the best players from Hockey Canada, and to build a top6 and bottom6, and 1 power play guy. I think it's as simple as that.
Remember the guys who were the 13th forward or 7th defenceman before, who there were questions about their age (Crosby at 16) or their complete game (Corey Perry & Ryan Ellis), who were in that 13th/7th spot and just worked their way into the lineup. We aren't giving those guys the opportunities regularly (Cristal could have been Perry this year, Yakemchuk could have been Cam Barker.

The only people worried about Rielly are fantasy owners. We (me included) figured Tanev would unlock his offensive game because he would finally have a steady partner. Tanev isn't playing with Mo and OEL does things he doesn't and now he's with Myers. Maybe the days of him being a 60+ point guy just don't exist anymore and he's a $7.5M guy who will get you about 50 points which is still dam good even with some guys nearing 100.

Hockey Canada needs to hire Gardiner Macdougall for the world junior coach spot. His record is insane as a university level coach. Including 9 national titles behind the bench for the university of new Brunswick in fredericton. Including finishing his tenure with a literal perfect undefeated season to a national title. He coached the moncton wild cats to a Calder cup after just taking over the team before the tournament. And is now the active coach for them. He ran UNBs entire program including scouting and recruiting. Guy is a proven winner.

Canucks despite this drama have also never been fully healthy all season. Hronek play with an injury for who knows how long before surgery, joshua coming back from ball cancer, demko being out for a few months, boeser out with concussion, miller leave of absence now petty and hughes out for a few weeks.
This year just isn't their year

Remember how in your very recent hot takes episode you all mentioned how annoying it is when people use social media to create their opinions about sports/teams, because that’s usually one snippet of what the truth is??? Yeah, that’s how you all sound like when you’re talking about the Canucks. I’m glad they’re playing the leafs soon, so that way you’ll actually watch a game.

It's getting a little confusing when the idea of Canada picking the same guys through different age groups, or the ones they are familiar with, is a bad idea, but the USA identifying a group and having them play together is a good idea. Those things are close to the same idea, but since one is winning it's okay, and the one losing isn't?

  • @porphyrysteve4545

Team Canada's 1st line played like a 3rd or 4th line. Meanwhile the 3rd line that got limited ice time especially when playing from behind was dominating play and yet could never get anymore ice time. Who was the best skater for team Canada this year, Yager, and possibly McKenna yet they didn't take dumb penalties (Yager was the first penalty killer and I believe was +1 killing penalties) and could only get 30 seconds of PP time yet out produced the 1st PP unit. Cameron was brutal at identifying who was working and who wasn't. In fact, after stupid penalties and costing the team the game, Cameron double shifts the player.

Just my opinion but I think people in Hockey Canada have just assumed that the teams they’ll put out are dominant enough that the coach doesn’t really matter. Then they put in whoever they’re friends with assuming they’ll win regardless of coaching decisions just to try and give them something on their resume.
