      I found Anna's personality quiet unlikable..........please review your videos. I took time before I wrote this comment, she is a woman close to her 30's but she does act and sounds like those annoying teenagers her comments are without substance and quiet b....y and the look she gives to your other guest is not a good look for someone who consider herself "UA-camr". A conversation about this issue will help you to gain more subscribers.

    I was recently binge watching a plastic surgeon’s channel & I learnt that often when you get one procedure it’s necessary to get another to ‘balance’ things out that’s why people who start getting these procedures end up adding more and more… So before you decide to do it, be prepared to continually go for maintenance treatments.

    I'm 71 years old and I learned that the beauty of men or women is their inner selfs, the person you are inside, because a woman can be super beautiful and a man can be super handsome but are cruel, mean, good for nothing, only to often people their beauty is worthless. I do agree that we need to take care of ourselves for our happiness and our health, but never do it because you are been pressured to do it, do it for you and not for what other think of you. Don't care of what other think of you, just like Anna said: Do it for your own happiness not because of what other say. Think "THE HELL WITH THEM, I'M GOING TO DO ME" PERIOD. This was a very good talk all though I didn't agree with a lot of things. So just be yourself and don't pay attention of what other say and remember beauty is with in you, not what you are out side of you. Sending A Lot Of Agape Love To All Of You From El Paso, Texas. 🥰

    17:21 it affects every country but it seems Korea definitely has far stricter standards. To my knowledge an ideal weight regardless of height is not something bandied around even casually in Euro-America. People get that being taller or having a different build will affect that. I'm sure Koreans know this too, but if being under 50kg goes around so much that it becomes a thing women subconsciously check themselves against then it's another level.

    another reason why plastic surgeries and dermatology visits are so prevalent in korea is that
    these clinics are super cheap and so easily accessible
    there are loads of beauty clinics that are open till 9 pm weekdays, and open 365 days a year (mostly open till 5pm at weekends and national holidays)
    the price is unbelievable too; for instance you can get whole face skin botox injection at about 30 dollars

    This was very interesting. As someone who lived in Korea for two years. In my opinion, Korea has a very conformist culture. And as such they follow trends and tend to try and look like one another or emulate what is popular. For example one of the first things I noticed when I first got to Korea was how every single Korean girl had the same red lips and style of makeup on. It was so different than America. Like what you guys said it also has to do with societal pressure, I felt it too, I bought red lipstick too lol. If everyone is doing it, you feel like you need to do it too in order to fit in. I think that’s why beauty standards itself is so prevalent in Korea. Idk if that makes sense. But yea.

    It's true that in the UK or the US you should not put your photo on your Cv. But they do not represent abroad. In France Italy Spain Germany to only name those, photos are not mandatory but it's a cultural thing to put your photo on the CV so it's not just Korea.

    • @henrytep8884
      @henrytep8884 Рік тому +5

      It’s because there’s a ton of racial bias and discrimination that can occur and have been shown to occur in the USA. Your name in itself signals your probability of getting a job, just imagine the racial profiling that can occur with your photo.

    • @HereDiianas
      @HereDiianas Рік тому +8

      @henry tep I am sorry but racism is not just in the US. I am French and we have had plenty of official tests and studies that show that your name (sounds muslim... sounds African... sounds Indian...), address (you come from the "hood"), and "race" brings discrimination here. Even our government can't deny it since it's public knowledge here. Spain also has big issues on that topic. Yet photos are still a thing because it's just part of the culture to show your face before an interview here. I lived studied and worked in the USA in 2 different states. Kentucky and Florida, and when it comes to discrimination regarding jobs Europe is absolutely not better except maybe for the UK or Germany.

    This is a topic i've seen on multiple korean centered youtube channels and this podcast touched on most of the popular topics i've heard about. If it's someone's first time hearing about this kind of topic i'd say they would have gotten the gist of it with this podcast. so well done panel! Beauty standards are quite hard to achieve and the only way to get it 100% is through some form of augmentation, and even then one might not achieve it since trends are ever changing. Although it takes a lot of work to mentally be strong and confident in yourself, i'd hope people would try their best to accept themselves just as they are instead of trying to conform to society beauty standard. And I hope society shift towards accepting the uniqueness that we all were born with.

    There can't be one ideal for appearance. Everybody is attracted to different things. I personally love mono-lids the most. It's a beautiful Korean feature that i envy. I also love olive/tan skin far more than pail skin. And while i appreciate people who work out for health reasons, I am not a fan of people who workout just to get a boyfriend or girlfriend. Life throws us so many blows over the years and it's important to have grace in those situations and just love people the way they are. Personality is so much more important than looks.

    • @JoelErway-pq9ij

      I have grown to love monolids and I think both are nice. I think it depends on how your eyes match with your other facial features more less than it being about mono or double lids. Great conversation. I really learnt a lot here. Thank you, guys. Well-being is too much of a precious thing to sacrifice it chasing this unicorn of good looks…Jamila Jamil has it right when she says that body neutrality is the perfect mindset. Take care of your health, embrace the wonder that is your body and what it can do, and do not give a second thought to anything in your body that doesn’t “fit in”. Even the obsession with “looking healthy”, “building muscle” and “putting factor 50+ to avoid wrinkles” is a way of conforming and giving yourself pressure. Live life to the full and do not impose your standards on others. Everybody has their own personal standard of what’s attainable and realistic physically for a happy life. What others think does not matter in the least. Beauty standards be damned. Burn it all!

    Some advice from a golden girl. I’ve met absolutely beautiful people on the outside but horrible on the inside. I’ve met some meh looking people that were absolutely beautiful on the inside. I have met people that I didn’t really think about there looks but got to know them and later found them beautiful. It is all how you look at life and the people around you. The keepers are the ones with a good heart. If you fall for their heart and soul they become the most beautiful people in the world to you. Trying to fit into the world and be like everyone else is ok but I think being true to yourself and letting that inner self shine is the most beautiful thing ever. So fly your little freak flags and and forget the rude people. They aren’t worth your time or energy. Some people don’t find RM attractive but I think he is extremely handsome. He has shown us a part of this heart and soul and it is smexy as hell. Get cosmetic surgery if it will make you feel better but also work on the inside to be the best you that you can be. I mean there is a reason many Twitter armies call Joon Daddy. 😉

    I have so much to say about this that I feel like I’m all over the place with many thoughts. But at the depth of all this it feels like we’re not evolving to healthier ways of living. It is shallow to live this way and it only hurts ourselves in the end. We should focus more on self love and less on trying to fit ourselves into trends that come and go. That is not a stable way of living and it can be an emotional roller coaster. Also when we judge ourselves on needing this and that, we also see the world that way because that is what is inside us. This is living shallow.

    Unrealistic beauty standards have been an issue for American teenagers for years, and it is slowly getting better with the introduction of more full size or average size women in print and tv ads as well as the music industry.

    Depends on what sector in America you work in. When I was a waitress my manager told me she would fire me if I didn't wear makeup. It's not legal for them to make that requirement but a lot do verbally. Now in the UK and one of the places I got vet experience had in their rules that fem presenting people must have makeup but not too much. Most places in the UK do not require it though. I'd say it's more required in the US than the UK

    One Ok Rock has a song called "Stand Out Fit in" that fits this discussion so well. Basically you can't "win" if the target keeps moving! Do you want to stand out (have unusual characteristics) or fit in (matching whatever today's "trend" is). Even male kpop artists are always dieting and definitely have specific skin care routines and "standards" to meet and yet are celebrated for their "unique" characteristics! It must be exhausting!

    I think it's the competitive instinct to look better than others. Every country has the culture of competitiveness but Koreans tend to start focussing more on appearance just like they used to look smarter with brighter future by going to more academically popular colleges. This culture only started about 15 years ago so the focus changes over time. In America/Europe, it is more diverse so some people want to look more athletic, while others want to look better in the areas they're focussing on be it chess, Star Wars nerds or sports.

    I mean fat shaming makes harder to fat people to get access to proper healthcare, they are dismissed as lazy, society in general will not appreciate if you gain weight but if you lose its "good", skinny people can be bodyshamed for sure but the fatphobic is systematically cause society despises any gain of fat, being skinny is never out of fashion in the media either, and in general being skinny is the main goal for most women, i think in general we should not talk about peoples bodies but they, bodyshaming and fatshaming, are mainly different issues.

    the first thing i always notice how contradictory beauty standards are. Abs + Curvy hips, the slim thicc thing, everything related to skintones, where lighter countries go darker and darker countries go lighter. Obviously its not that simple where these standards come from, but in the end its basically just making a market out of things any specific group doesnt naturally have, except a few individuals that do have and kinda lucked out on the trend, but will inevitably go out of trend at some point.

    Just to add, I also think that Koreans, as a society (based on what I have learned from watching content), are conformist - people like to conform, they don’t like breaking rules, and tend to be obedient to societal norms and expectations. You are all very good citizens. So beauty standards and the things that are expected of you to conform to beauty standards (make up, procedures, skin care, body type, clothes etc) get entrenched very easily, and they have a high “up-take” rate, a very high % of people implement these things in their lives. So trends become standards quite quickly, and “everyone” is doing it. It’s not a bad thing, it’s what makes your country so safe, with very little crime 🤷‍♂️🤗❤️
