    You guys should do a JW blind tasting that includes Red Label. My whisky club did a blind that included Red, Black, Green and Blue. To nobody’s surprise we all picked out Blue as our preference, but what surprised us was that nobody picked out Red as their least favorite. Amazing how a blind tasting provides unexpected outcomes. Cheers guys.

    I also started with this version, but you should try miniature bottles, the older versions from the 1970s, which are simply wonderful and very different from the new version.👌

    I started with peated!! I am honestly not a scotch snob but I can't even use Johnnie Walker Red in a cocktail. Maybe the Black! I like a nice cocktail and usually have a dram of good single malt or Irish whiskey - mostly single malt scotch. I have become fussy for sure. In Canada this is a bit more than the U.S. but sure it's cheap. I don't ever have it on my bar and my husband can't stand it. Hey we all have our opinions! Miss you guys! Great to see a new video! 🙂

    I was a bourbon and Rye guy, but my son wanted me to get into Scotch. I tried Glenlivet and Deanston and just couldn't find anything I liked. I gave up for several months, then tried JWRed. I soon caught on the nose and palate a seaside, salt breeze with some seaweed...reminding me of going to the Texas Gulf Coast as a child. Bingo! I have liked Scotch ever since, and JWRed has a place in my heart

      The Talisker in it might have resonated with you. They keep adding less and less of the good stuff and swap it with unaged grain whisky.

    my dad always had a bottle of this in at christmas in the 70's, and i remember getting pissed on it when i was 16. i've been a whisky fan for almost 50 years, and have tried 100's of malts from around the world, i buy a lot lol, always having many bottles to hand, but can't remember ever having JW red since then, although i did try a bottle of JW black a few years ago when on offer at christmas from the supermarket, and it was basically ok, drinkable, but nothing special. I don't use mixers, just spring water, but i suppose along with bells it's ok to use in cocktails or with dry ginger for those that don't know better, so it has it's place, and i think your review is very fair, so thanks. GL

    I was surprised to learn that most of Talisker’s spirt goes into Johnnie Walker Red. You guys haven’t gone live in a while, are you planning on resuming? I leave for my 4th trip to Scotland tomorrow (Friday April 12, 2024) and plan to do more live streaming when I get back.

    “It’s a wee bit popular lads”, what a great line Drew 😆! So, just going to say Blending is hard, and kudos to JW for maybe not keeping Red tasting the same through the decades, but at least being consistent year to year. I took two blends , a Dewars and a Costco blend, put them together and it was AWFUL 😂! Great review as always, Cheers to S4D!🥃

    Heyyy. Looking for a friend. I have a vary large Johnny Walker sign that is about 6 feet tall by 6 feet wide. It's all black with a yellow raised Wood logo. It hooks onto rollers so it can be rolled around. I looked on ebay for a comparison and can't find anything like it whatsoever. None that look like it and none that are even close to being as big. I have no clue what I should sell it for. Can any of you help give me an idea? I don't drink at all so I have no idea what to price it for. I also have no clue if its an antique or not so i don't want to get ripped off either.

    I don't know what you get in the USA for a 25 dollars JW Red, but here in Italy this bottle is around 8/12 euros in the supermarkets. And it is very sharp and edgy. No way it is smooth. You may have some palate fatigue to not sense those grain edges. And yes, it is peated, way less that it was in the 80s and 90s.

      would you feel happy making your granny a whisky and dry ginger using a quality malt? - i don't, it would be a waste, and all my m8's and even my wife knows better than to expect me to allow her to add lemonade to a good bottle of scotch lol, i'll share with anyone as long as it's neat or with a teaspoon of spring water to enjoy as god intended, so that's what JW, bells, grouse and others are there for. It's not that i'm mean, i just couldnt bear to watch the desecration, it was bad enough when i saw her add supermarket diet lemonade to bottle of decent armagnac 20 years ago when on holiday, and then tell me how lush it was :) GL

    You can get a cheap single malt (Glen Moray) for about $7 more, why bother with JW. Whatever JW you look at, for about the same money you can always get something better. If all you are going to do is make cocktails and can't afford decent Scotch, why drink Scotch at all?

I don't buy it often, but when people ask me what to get for christmas or birthdays i'll mention it coz i know it's drinkable & will get used, unlike the litre bottle of bells i still have in my cupboard from many years ago lol.

    I really don't get the point of tasting JW Red as if it's a single malt or something meant to be consumed neat or with just a pinch of water. You may as well try to use a wedge to drive a golf ball off the tee and then complain about the lack of distance! JW Red is a very good quality blended cocktail scotch, meant for those who like to drink scotch on the rocks and, or with a generous amount of water or soda, or in a rusty nail, etc. In fact, JW Red is an excellent scotch for making a rusty nail because it holds up to Drambuie better than most lighter scotches, like Dewars White Label. One of you alluded to it being a cocktail scotch, so why not review it as such? Have you ever compared scotch & sodas made from JW Red versus JW Black? If one is using anywhere near an equal amount of soda, the JW Black is wasted since it tastes about as good with JW Red. In fact, as a scotch cocktail drinker, I would argue that soda really enhances the taste of JW Red. You should do a scotch & soda taste test with JW Red, Dewars WL, J&B, Cutty Sark, Black & White, and Grant's.

      @@terrortower666 For Valentine's Day 2002, after our daughter was born, my wife gave me a bottle of Dalmore 21. I had never been a neat scotch drinker and single malts weren't so fashionable then. My drink was JW Red & soda, and it had been since college. Of course, I sipped the Dalmore neat and was impressed! So, I decided to try the JW Red neat and compare. I recall thinking, "this JW Red neat tastes like gasoline compared to the Dalmore"!

    • @Bob-ts2tu
      @Bob-ts2tu 3 місяці тому

      i agree with most of what you say, however i think tasting it neat can serve as a bit of a benchmark, and most genuine whisky lovers aint going to take it further than trying it 'just to see'. a few years ago my dad started making his own whisky for a laugh using a biostill, and various flavourings he bought from the net, no maturation or casks, just bottled like moonshine, and after me giving him the expected piss taking and 'you'll go blind' spiel, i decided to try it neat just to see, expecting to spit it out, but was really surprised that it was as drinkable as most blended scotch's, and if you put it in a pub optic in a branded bottle for chavs to have with a splash of coke or any other mixer, it would be doubtful if they could tell the difference as most dont usually have an educated palate anyway. GL

    • @boilerbonz
      @boilerbonz 3 місяці тому

      @@Bob-ts2tu I'm not sure drinking a blended cocktail scotch neat serves as an effective benchmark for how the scotch would react to soda or in a particular cocktail? We know single malts react differently to adding water. Likewise, my experience is that blends react differently to soda or other mixers. Scotch & soda is the most popular way in the world to consume scotch, yet I've never seen one of these scotch channels ever do a taste test of different blended scotches with soda!
