nice cheap little beater if she runs , looks pretty good tho. 👍
If you don't have any gaskets just buy gasket material then trace it it's like $4 to $9 for a roll
I love your channel man
It'll run.🤘🤘
Hey man give me shout if your interested in parting with that 650. I've wanted one for years and your closer to me then California I think haha.
When you sprayed paint on all of this filth i nearly had a heartattack
I though the same. But I think if he gets it running good, he might strip it all down and do a proper job of restoring it. I hope so. At the moment, he is still in 2 minds on whether to spend on it or not. It is still a 50 / 50 chance of it being good. I wish him all the best. :)
@@ianallen2 lol he will absolutely not strip this bike down lol dude is a hack
@@IllestA4 If he is a hack, he will have to learn to do things properly. He could find the time to strip it and restore it. If he cant, he could always pallet it up and ship it to me and I would restore it for myself. I would love a project like that to restore. :)
He knows how to get motors running. This is in a different ball game from lawnmowers and quads. This bike has a lot of potential.
@@ianallen2 exactly my thought process.
@@2vintage The more I watch you, the more I understand you and how you do things. In a way, you are like how I was in my younger days. :). Learning about new things is a challenge sometimes, but with the internet, it is easy to find out how to do things. I never had that option in my day. I am 59 now and still do learn some things. :).
This guy can make anything start
@@noidontthinksolol that’s not true at all I’m working on a quad right now that has good spark and compression but won’t start
You forgot fuel
@Mike Lyons Everybody starts somewhere.
@@jessetippett8639get it fixed?
Remove that motor
Flush the crank case with kerosene multiple times cylinder off
All that diarrhea in the crankcase will destroy the rest of the engine WHEN the bearings eat themselves
Until it flushes clean
Then gas oil the lower end in 10:1
Flush repeat
Reassemble and pray it don’t explode after it heat cycles
Really agree with Brian here, you need to flush that crank with kerosene or diesel
Also maybe a new spark plug wire will fix the non spark issue, cable looks hard
you flush it by filling it, shaking it around, dumping, repeat?
yep had a dt80 eat the clutch because of rust before
all that ice probably blew out the seals already
Yeah I suggested last video to flush with diesel. Could even use ATF im sure he has some of these products around the shop.
Piston went through war and joe says “it’s in decent shape”
or you don't listen..... here ill give you the time....... 3:08
@@devinfast50 I agree with you
Also joe look there’s rust in the cylinder wall
@@devinfast50 you don’t have to listen to him cause he doesn’t know what he’s saying regardless, that piston is still fucked
Oh I know right... the ultimate optimist. "Mostly discoloration..." And I'm like OMG this is a horror movie... I have this bike BTW. facebook.com/KingCast/videos/10219358335248701
Great work! I’d flush that crankcase out with diesel though. Get it all nice and clean. All that stuff in there with the crank might ruin it.
are'nt you worried about the brown liquid that been sitting in the crank????
its just oil but there might be some rust mixed in i would wipe it down then re lube
@@onlysnaps69 yeah but he didnt
@Mike Lyons motor poop
It’ll buff
Man that floor workbench it will be hard on yourself, back, and tough .Please get it done work bench make your life easier. Great video love it.
For some reason I always find the floor more comfortable to work on lol, have multiple workbenches but always seem to find myself on the floor lol.
@@connerlayman4992 on the floor the motor don't run away 😀
@@connerlayman4992 Yes. On the floor, nothing can fall.
@@Mr.M1STER Seeee sure your back might hurt but you can always lay your tools on the floor quickly and you have unlimited space 😂
@Mike Lyons I'm sorry what?
Never mind the green on the clutch case what about the sludge in the crankcase?
I’ll bet those crank seals are shot out too
Definitly after having the bottom end fill with water then freeze. He'll never figure out why it runs lean and the rings seize
did you forget that there is water in the oil lol
We're enjoying your videos man. Keep it up!!!
The videos are doing good there so fun to watch
this man is right
The wire wheel you used on the head is wayy to rough for that aluminum head😂. You're supposed to use a soft wire wheel man. That wire wheel is pretty much used to strip steel and prep for welding
Scratch it all up.😂
You're changing the compression ratio by 'cleaning' the head like that :)
He did the right thing.
He took off carbon not metal...no change in ratio
@@whistlindixiesmallengine2085 it would still change the squish
@@KentRoads squish would be the same as it was factory all he took off was carbon no metal it doesnt come with carbon from the factory lol ...when the parts are turned on the lathe and machined they take into account the squish needed to compensate for carbon buildup and thermal expansion plus that carbon came off very easy it was thin it would hardly make a difference in squish
@@whistlindixiesmallengine2085 have you ever used one of those small wire wheels? All those lines are grooves

Well done mate, she's so happy you've rescued her 😎 her name is Sheila.
I am loving these type of videos. Bringing back old relics.
Joe, use a brass wire wheel and finish it up with a steel wool 00 to finish it..it'll polish up that old nasty piston nicely.

you never stop and drag the hone in the cylinder

Love the content man seriously one of a kind channel keep it like this bro keep tearing bike and quad apart and letting us watch great job man! Never seen a lot of this stuff before ever in my life!
Good stuff man, love your vids!
Cant wait!! I love when u reuse old parts.
Great to see you getting into it. This deserves to be given a new life. :)
This one's got me hooked can't wait to see the next video up
Sometimes spark plugs or often times spark plugs go bad. Try another plug. Denso is the best. Many times my bikes wont start just clean the plug or better yet get a brand new plug. But the coil probably got wet and corroded inside and is bad. But the wire on the coil could be not making good contract too. The wire could be corroded and not making contact. Some wires come off the coil and you can clean the end with a wire brush and sand paper. But a brand new coil or good used one might be the best thing.
Love the videos keep up the good work and have a great day
Bottom end looked full of sludge? Didn't you turn the bike upside down and fully drain and clean it out?
Why u ain’t clean da cylinder, dome & then paint it
I understand that some people don’t like the way you do things but good god the amount of criticism is insane. I think you do a good job and what’s the point of going through a huge effort on something that may not work and you didn’t spend a bunch of money on.
Damn Joe. Did you shit in the bottom end before putting the top end back on?. Haha Good job!!
Oh yeah, I've been waiting for this baby, stay cool homey 😎 🙋 👍
I love the videos man keep up the good work
I matched your condition. I bought a 1972 Honda 125 in just as bad a shape late last year. Ready to see what I will get myself into. Keep rockin
I love watching ur vids soo much
Great work😀
That gasket was world class 🤣. Keep these videos coming mate 👍🏻
Yess been dying to see this video watched the last one definitely save able brilliant videos
Great video can't wait for next one hope there plenty of smoke as usual when fire up.
Great video!!!
Really dig your channel and content keep it up good work.
You are the reason I bought my first project king quad 300 for 250 and sold for 650 and I was so happy 😀
Every time I watch one of your video makes me a believer in ultra sonic cleaners.
Why do you do all your work on a dirty concrete floor? That has got to be hard on your knees and back also. Build a bench 👍👍
need a motorcycle and atv lift, not just a workbench unless you take the engine right out
What works for him
Drain the sludge!
I'm surprised you didn't crack a clutch plate removing them,,, best thing to do before re-installing the clutch pack is to soak them for 24 hrs or longer if you have the time, and in the same oil that you'll use,,, this goes for new clutches especialally,, but also for old dried clutch packs like yours mate
I guarantee what this man says about soaking the clutch plates is absolutely true. I found out the hard way.
Minty fresh as always gotta be worth $5k all day long bud
Painting over the filth is bada$$! Love it! That's what you do with a $150 bike.
Green stuff is called mildew 👍🏻🏴
Joe I would like to say thank you for giving me a channel and video to vent at Oh. I thought I was having a bad day until I saw this video. And there are others too I mean I'm trying to keep watching your channel hoping things will get better with the way you do things but I'm wondering now??? Anyway it did give me a good reason to yell and scream at the TV and get all my anger out and I thank you for that. I could not believe you were more worried about getting a little Moss off the outside when you didn't even give a damn about cleaning off that nasty silicone gasket on the inside, freaking amazing. Thanks again Joe
Good video man
Tell me you flushed the sludge from that crankcase. I see seals blowing if you actually ride it.
Great video cant wait to see ole crusty dusty kickin' up some good stuff!!!! And in most cases you can pull/unscrew the plug cap because sometime the spark will jump Inside the plug cap, take it off and put the coil wire to the frame and see if it spark. If so get a new cap or clean the heck outta it. Old small engine caps work best for all projects
Bro you get so much grief. I love watching your videos thanks for taking the extra time to film it with us. I thoroughly enjoy the videos. Keep it up please!
Why do you think he gets grief?
Do you think its deserved?
@@vicconstruction9126 to many know it all’s 😂
I grew up on the back of a 78 yz 400 awesome memories
Really makes me want to go outside and see if I can get the 83 125 going
use pine-sol floor cleaner for that parts cleaner works great
That cardboard cylinder base gasket is a total waste of time.
👍🏿 good job sir
That carb is a trip
awesome video
get yourself a small pressure washer you can hook to hot water in the colder months clean bikes up before working on. makes your work environment safer and final work look better
electric one would do well, some are 2000+ psi now I think too and then store it where it stays above freezing
That bike's totally re-doable...MX175. Plastics aside that bike's not in that bad of shape at all given the year and how long it's sat...might wanna give them Ports a once-over too...
Saw the 500 predator on marcketplace. Thought damn he really is done with that Polaris 😂
Don’t blame him!
Hey I just bought my first dirt bike. It's a chinese one tho. It was sold as a Lifan 200cc, but when I search the engine ( ZS167FMM ) it turns out it's a Zongshen 250cc engine. But I want to know why is there "49.8 cm3" written on the side of the cylinder head instead of 250 cm3?
That number your seeing is most likely the size of the inner bore/piston. Being Chinese, they do stuff backwards compared to what most people know. Like a cr500 stock oem piston would be 89mm
@@coloradodirtbike5930 Oh ok thanks!
Great video as usual. I don't see why she wouldn't run next video. I'm looking forward to it.
You earned my subscription!
Have a good one budd
Very nice build and god bless
Make it run joe, i know you want to bring the dead back to life, can't wait to see smoke coming out the back
If it starts you'll see plenty smoke, all coming from the pooched crank seals.
keep it up man
Awsome dude, that bike looked like it spent half its life in a bush full of water, keep her going!
Mint restoration there joe lol
This is a mad max rebuild Mel Gibson part 1 classic 👌🏼
2 strokes are simple if you have a gas and spark it will run but you never know if it be runing ok or no but if its runing bad it is very hard to get runing right on some bikes
Anneal your used head gasket. It’s great fun, and magical.
Why do you work on the floor, Joe, when you have a perfectly good work bench?
Can you make my engine-less lawnmower start?
Edit: yes
Dude make it into a cafe racer project. It’s cheaper than replacing all of it. They are sick as cafe bikes.
I have a question, what do you pour into your ultrasonic cleaner?
I have not watched the video yet, but i think it might just work. i believe! 👍
You don't want to remove material from the head combustion chamber when cleaning carbon off. I saw quite a few glints of metal when you were done.
I understand your not trying to make it perfect and you don't want to put any money into it, But you don't spray paint over dirt... You could have taken 5 minutes and cleaned that had before painting it..
I did clean it if you watch the video. I scraped off all the dirt and cleaned it with brake cleaner.
@@2vintage what bike is it
@@2vintage I did watch the Video, I would not make a comment without watching the video, And you did not clean that head... You clean the carbon off of it but not the top of the head before painting it... I support your channel man... You have done a lot better work and you could start doing that again.. I understand what your doing with this Bike..
@@jodyhakamaki5602 I'm not going to restore this bike. I'll probably just end up keeping it for parts. I just want to see if I can get it running with zero money put into it. I cleaned the head but I did not scrape off the old paint. It doesn't make sense to do that on this bike. This bike is too far gone to make it look pretty haha. Thanks for the comment and watching though! I get where you are coming from!
@@2vintage Let me give you a little advice.. You could 100% rebuild that motor upper and lower and you could make a lot of money selling it.. Or you would have one awesome engine for yourself.. You do have a great channel ..
i had a 1978 dt400 that bike was mental
Good content. Keep doing what you are doing. Just wanted to say where you could actually here me, does me no good screaming at my screen, lol, try a different spark plug, could have bad plug.
that biscuit packet changes the compression ratio, i hope
it works it reminds me of fixing an old rm up when i was about 14 damn thing ran for an hour then grenaded itself big time. that’ll do mechanics vs precision engineering always ends badly. you must have a coil laying around somewhere but i’m guessing it’s a corroded earth or wiring issue with the birds nest from ignition
Very minty love the videos
who cares about the green stuff when ya crank is flooded in rusty liquid??
You seen that! Looked like coffee ☕️
Oh yeah she is a beaut👍
I feel important when you let me check the spark.
Great vids watched for a while but i had to comment when i saw you take a wire wheel to the head and saw aluminium granules coming off use carb cleaner on it lol or leave it the way it was 😀🙂
Great video as always
I did clean it
@@2vintage i think he meant properly ;D these people want full restoration videos i think :)
@@2vintage my bad
@@KentRoads oh lol. Yeah im not spending that much time on this bike lol. It's too rough to do a restoration on.
@@2vintage in my unwanted opinion, you were better off leaving as is (getting it running ofc), for someone to buy as a running project. That way it doesnt look like its been messed with etc
You should use Vernier calipers and measure a piece of the original base gasket and compare it to the cracker box as this will set the piston dome to top of combustion chamber height and mechanical compression ratio. The base gasket selection is somewhat critical.
If all of the parts could be found, installed and everything cleaned up, that'd make a great little bike to run around town on. Add a basket and go shopping lol.
I love redirecting old motorcycles from death.
A running bike with flames 👍🦦
I didn’t see the step in the ring at first I was like 😳😳😳 Thats not a gap, that’s a canyon lol!
Could of just went to home depot and buy gasket maker and make one your self
I’m hyped
