    Last times these teams would play with this epic contrast of iconic uniforms/colors until last January's playoffs. Anyone who watched football in the 70's and/or 80's grew up seeing them playing a ton of meaningful games.

      the 9 post season games between these two organizations is the most in NFL history, but for some strange reason never gets mentioned when the topic of great playoff rivalries comes up...so weird..

      The old schedule format brought a lot of quirks like this one that saw 10 years between Cowboys-Rams games. The Cowboys and Buccaneers went 10 years without playing each other from 1990-2000. But the oddest was the fact that the Cowboys met the Lions 6 times in the regular season from 1981-1992 and all of them were in Detroit.

      @@joerules829 ..in 13 seasons, from 1973 to 1985 these two organizations squared off in the post season 8 times...never in the history of the NFL have two organizations met in the post season that many times in such a short duration....that had nothing to do with a "schedule quirk"...

    • @joerules829
      @joerules829 5 років тому +4

      conni70 I’m fully aware of the history. They met 8 times in that period and split the 8 games. Also, from 78-80, they met in the register and post season, with the team that won the regular season matchup losing the post season game. My “schedule quirk” comment was not responding to yours. It was about the fact that this was the last meeting between these two teams for 10 years.

      @@Espo2250They didn’t beat San Francisco, San Francisco beat themselves with turnovers and the refs gave Dallas some calls. The stat lines prove it. Then in 1994 vs San Francisco, Dallas beat themselves with the same logic in turnovers and the refs favored San Francisco on some calls. All this is mute if the big trade with the Minnesota chokers and the 49ers letting Dallas acquire Charles Haley didn’t happen. Dallas would still be stuck on two 70s Super Bowl wins. They flamed out by 1996 and Aikman was never a QB to carry a team. Dallas hasn’t been the same franchise since and no Jimmy Johnson wasn’t ever going to change nada. Jimmy was absolute trash with the Dolphins ending his coaching career with a 62-7 humble pie ass kicking.

      I was also bummed that the Cowboys lost this game, but their last regular-season loss of 1992 bothered me more, since it was so foolish & careless. At least the Rams did what they had to do to win I guess, and the cowboys were able to win on the road in the NFC title game (the cowboys no longer win road playoff games, apparantly:-).

      I firmly loved watching him get his ass handed to him when he was coaching the Dolphins. His last game a 62-7 loss. The Cowboys rolled him and his fins in Miami in 1996. Jimmy is overrated. No huge trade capital with the Minnesota chokers and Jimmy is irrelevant tonight.

    1992 Dallas Cowboys are suddenly shot down unexpectedly after a huge 8-1-0 start. But no matter. They would quickly rebound. Their white jerseys were often in sharp contrast to the frequently brightly colored uniforms of their opponents. In the 1992 playoffs it would be a green-red-blue run. The Cowboys consecutively defeated the green of the Philadelphia Eagles, then the red of the San Francisco 49ers, and finally the blue of the Buffalo Bills.
    These were three great and powerful playoff teams, and Dallas didn't just beat them, they destroyed, demolished, and completely dominated all three of them. At one point in the 4th quarter of the NFC Championship Dallas nearly put San Francisco down 31-13. The week before it was Dallas up on Philadelphia 34-3 before the Eagles barely got a very late TD. And Buffalo nearly lost 59-10. Leon Lett was supposed to score, and also the officials badly botched a call and gave Don Beebe a touchdown catch even though quarterback Frank Reich was way past the line of scrimmage when he threw the pass....

    The Cowboys and Rams have a tremendous rivalry, just as big as our rivalry with the 49ers. I was so mad we lost this game because the final play is Troy throwing an interception and the loss was not his fault at all. typical Harper had a half assed game. Troy was really let down by the receivers this day and people forget the Rams were a damn good team and honestly the Cowboys era of winning in dominant fashion began the previous year at Anaheim stadium vs the Rams. The Cowboys turned around the 1990 season and he Rams realy wanted to avenge that loss. The number one reason why we lost was because our rookie, but really "BUST" at middle linebacker Robert Jones had a horrible day. . I know they were not as fast but I do not care we lost something as a defense when we let go of Del Rio and traded Lockhart. Jones was so bad Norton was moved to MLB in1993 and Jones was benched. It is well known that if Jimmy came back in 1994 Norton would have been resigned and Jones was going to be traded. However Switer came in and Jerry did not believe in paying linebackers. If JImmy staye so would have Norton. We just did not lose a coach that day. I should have kept both Del Rio and Lockhart, especially after the 1989 season. Lockahrt was AMAZING that year. Best middle linebacker play since Lee Roy Jordan.

    SADLY after this game spots talk radio lines were burning up with some loser Cowboys fans wanting Troy to be benched for Beurline. In fact during those same calls he was being raked over the coals and since this game was at home, under 2 minutes there were letters in the Cowboys weeklysaying "Troy could not bring them back like Roger." This prompted Roger to comeout and defend Troy In fact it was the one and only time Roger ever went after the fans. This was the last home loss in 1992 and the next time they lost was during one of the most classic great CowboysvsRedskins rivalry game you will ever see. The loss was so badly felt by Jimmyhe ordered the players would not be allowed to eat after he threw a tandrum because there was laughter on the plane. It is widely known in Cowboys history Troy took over the team after that plane ride home. The next dayaftertheRams loss Irvin went off defending his QB who was having the best year of his career. As a lifer Cowboys fan like me..that shows you why I hate most of my brethren Cowboys fans.
