Fun fact: the Raiders were the home team, and flew down from Oakland (they hadn’t fully finished moving everything because of the strike). The Rams were the road team, and bussed from LA. Might’ve been the only time ever that the road team was able to drive to their game, and the home team had to fly
The only other instance I can think of was in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the NFL moved what would’ve been the Saints home opener against the Giants to Giants Stadium and designated the Saints as the home team. While the Giants wore their road uniforms, it was a partisan Giant crowd. The stadium even called for noise when the Giants were on defense. It was supposed to be a fundraiser for New Orleans. But all it did was give the Giants a 9th home game. They ended up winning the division that year, too.
Funny thing, Raiders were still based in Oakland since their practice and office facilities weren’t ready in LA. Raiders flew in for the game, Rams took bus to game.
Just listen to Pat Summerall call this game. Best in the business, both he and Madden. And that crowd was electric. This was a great game. I wish today's NFL action was this exciting.
