And they have 2 x 40 minute halfs, not 15 min quarters that take all day to watch. 80 minutes with no time outs other than half time or for injuries etc.
8:10 with the play the ball, later on in the game the players try to be slick and they do just push it back with their hands mainly due to fatigue but the ref can pull them up for an incorrect play the ball and award a penalty to the team defending at the time.

After watching the Super Bowl where your game went for 4 hours , last 2 min took 14 min with stoppages. NRL may seem short at 90 min with 1 stoppage at 40min, 10min 1/2 time then 40min. But it is non stop, unlike nfl. And there’s not 40players.

I’m a massive NRL fan here in Australia 🇦🇺. I’ve been following it since I was a kid and both my boys played it. I suppose it’s like your superbowl but we only have 1 team who has to defend & attack. The game has two halves that go for 40 mins each. The players only get a 15 min break before having to return to play the 2nd half of the game. The object of the game is to get down the field as fast as possible and score a try you call them touchdowns. They only get 5 plays to do this and the have to kick of the sixth or last play to give the ball back to the opposition. If you manage to score a try within the five tackles, you get to kick the goal which is worth two points and you get the ball back again, so depends plays a really big part in this game. I don’t know I don’t wear helmets I only wear headgear and that’s only a few of them..
Russell Crowe famous hollywood actor. Gladiator, Beautiful mind and so many other great movies to his credit. He is part owner of the South Sydney Rabittohs
You can apparently score drop goals in American Football as well, I think its 3 points like a field goal, Unless they changed the rules, It might also be used for extra points, I think the last person to score one in the NFL was Doug Flutie.
Dar, for some trivia for you: South Sydney Rabbitohs were the second accepted into the New South Wales Rugby League in 1908, winning the first ever premiership. The South Sydney Rabbitohs are the NRL team with the most premiership wins, 21 in total.
Check out some highlights of retired NRL player Preston Campbell (easy to find). He was the smallest player of his era, but his footwork, speed and reflexes were super-human. He's a great advertisement for what the game looks like when played at its best.
The reason they have to drop the ball before kicking it for a field goal is to make it harder. Otherwise if you could just kick it normally it would be way too easy. Usually you don't want to go for a drop goal because you always just want to go for the try for 4 or potentially 6 points instead. They only try to make field goal attempts in moments like when it's getting close to half time and they are already ahead or tied just so it makes it that extra bit hard for the opponents to catch up in the second half or in the dying moments of a game where they need that 1 or 2 points to either win or tie the other teams score. The other time when they use them is when the clock does run out on the game and the scores are tied, years ago it would just go down as a draw but these days what happens is 10 more minutes is thrown on the clock (in two 5 minute halves) and it becomes "golden point" rules. Which means the next team to score a single point are the winners, it's basically sudden death. When this happens it's field goal attempt frenzy, every set of 6 is basically an attempt to get the ball close enough and set up position for your best kicker to attempt a field goal. You can also score the points needed in all the other ways if you can too, but this really is when the field goal is most utilised. If those two 5 minute halves end with neither team scoring a point then the game is called a draw, that isn't too often though. The team on offence has a set of 6 tackles to run the ball. You thought it was 5 because you always see the team kick the ball on the 6th play. They do that to get the ball further down the field so that the opponent has to start their set further back into their own territory and further away from their try line. But they don't have to kick it on the 6th tackle, they are free to just run the ball and try to score a try or whatever, but if they do get tackled on the 6th they stop in that exact spot and hand the ball over to the other team and they start their set from there. So that is why it's better to kick it most of the time. (Russell kind of explained that, I wrote this before finishing the video). Playing the ball with your foot is so easy and simple but you would be amazed how many players are just lazy about it and don't bother to use their foot. If the ref sees that it's a penalty and change over of the ball and the coach will definitely rip your head off for that. You also can't fumble the ball on the ground or stand at an angle that isn't forward facing while playing it because those are penalties too.
Remember the game goes for 80 min, and it’s action packed. They’ve done tests and found that running the ball back into those solid blokes is like being hit by a car at 25miles an hour
Dude I’m so excited for you today!! Heads up, when there’s 5 minutes to go don’t be making a beer run! Five minutes is literally 5 minutes. Buckle up Brother, it’s fast!!!! ❤❤
What he forgot to tell you is when guy kicks the ball All he's team mates must be behind him when he kicks If their infront when he kicks the ball they can't touch it Otherwise its a penalty the ball gets turned over So you'll notice ball gets kicked high and to a distance where the fastest running can get to it As he and other team mates are behind the kicker before the kick
I actually thought Rusty should've explained the 10 metre rule. Watching reactions to our game from other nations, especially in the US don't understand why the defending team is standing that far away from the play the ball & often say things like why are they just standing there while the guys got the ball & not up in his face to tackle. U also made a good point about the attacking off side rule. I know they couldn't go thru every single rule but the offside rule is a huge part of the game as the game relies on the 10 metre rule
Rugby League is one of the great codes of football. Nice reation Dar, you may enjoy a Matt Bowen highlight reel as his size and speed was exemplary. Hope you get to see the 1st round in L.A I'm in Sydney, Australia so a bit far...
5:36 perfect kick “under pressure”, charge downs aren’t considered knock ons and the defence or attacking can regain the ball with a fresh tackle count Believe it or not the game has become a lot softer, but much faster in just the last few years
Fan of rugby LEAGUE since I was a kid and also played, I am a Sea Eagles which are playing in Vegas, BUT, Before you go to the game, watch 2 GRAND FINALS which contain the BRISBANE BRONCOS who are playing in Vegas this year. This is true RUGBY LEAGUE AT ITS BEST. It has TACKLES OF ALL TYPES, SPEED, FIELD GOAL ATTEMPTS, TACTICS, TIREDNESS, HOW TO WIN ATTITUDE. WATCH THE GAMES FROM START TO FINISH. 2015 North Queensland Cowboys Vs Brisbane Broncos,...........2023 Penrith Panthers Vs Brisbane Broncos. You will learn a lot from these 2 games.
AFL fan here, you should also check that out. This promo’s awesome though. A lot of Aussies will follow one code and half follow the other - I don’t have an NRL team, but watch the odd game when I’m channel surfing and keep an eye on the league. I think the NRL’s on a winner playing their opening in the US. You can never have too many sporting interests! Enjoy the games, mate! 👍
I hope you enjoy. It’s such a great game and as much as American football is popular in your hugely populated country rugby league is so worth getting into.
If you haven't I would love for you to react to the 2015 Grand final. It broke records for the staidum, teams and captians, score and grand final records. As well as the 2015 State Of Origin Game 3. The Decider. Wich also broke crowd, score AND the State of Origin History records.
There are two different codes of Rugby, Rugby League and Rugby Union, which to those not familiar with the different rules and tactics may think that they are similar games but this is only superficial and although most Rugby players may be able to play either code to a reasonable level there are relatively few who do make highly successful transitions between the different codes. And if one is highly successful in any one code there would usually be less financial incentives to switch codes mid-career as that player would usually be already highly rewarded finance-wise.
DON'T call it "rugby". In Australia we tend to refer to only Rugby Union as "rugby" where rugby league will either be called "rugby league" or just "league". Rugby union and rugby league are very different games.
You're right Dar with 'play the ball', I'm an Aussie Rules fan, but watch a bit of league here and there and I think they're supposed to move the ball backwards with their foot but sometimes they miss, pretty sure the refs are pretty loose with that as long as it looks like they've attempted to move the ball backwards with their foot it's fair play, whether their foot touched it or not. Happy to be corrected from the NRL fans.
*The hardest hitting game on the planet - Period! These guys don't have offensive and defensive teams, they do the lot but I really hope a lot of yous go watch a game or two, y'all love it!*
I’d love to see rugby league become popular in the USA. I can only imagine how good it would be to watch some of the extremely athletic and talented Americans I’ve seen in the NFL transfer their skills into the NRL. Imagine how devastating some of the forward packs would be with the absolute units they’ve got running around there. The only thing is they will have to get used to playing a full 80 minutes playing both offence and defence, but I’m sure they will rise to the occasion as they do have some good rugby players in the states.
I think this is the main reason people want to see Americans for once check out league or union. Everyone knows USA could do good, they just don't get any exposure to it since they're so absorbed and promote their own stuff

Russel crow is an Australian actor, the gladiator is a movie he starred in
Also nrl are working on 5 year deal with fox sports over in the US, so you'll be able to watch it live.
Russell crow owns the south Sydney rabbitos, also the lead role in gladiator
among many other movies.
Glad you enjoyed it. Rugby League is a very fast sport they are gladiators.
Remember the game goes for 80 min, and it’s action packed. They’ve done tests and found that running the ball back into those solid blokes is like being hit by a car at 25miles an hour
These games gonna be lit
Yooooooooooo! Much love from Australia bro, Love this game CRAZY!!! LETS GOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
LETS GO BRONCOS!!! 💪🐴
Tis Maximus the voice of reason explaining the rules for these Gladiators.
I hope u love it bro. I can't wait to see you reaction after the games. ❤
Love the promo from an NRL fan in QLD Australia. Once you understand the rules you guys in the states will love this I’m sure 👍
It’s high octane! 🔥
Dude I’m so excited for you today!! Heads up, when there’s 5 minutes to go don’t be making a beer run! Five minutes is literally 5 minutes. Buckle up Brother, it’s fast!!!! ❤❤
Aw hell yeah bruz I hope you and your missus have a great time in Vegas and the games are good
What he forgot to tell you is when guy kicks the ball
All he's team mates must be behind him when he kicks
If their infront when he kicks the ball they can't touch it
Otherwise its a penalty the ball gets turned over
So you'll notice ball gets kicked high and to a distance where the fastest running can get to it
As he and other team mates are behind the kicker before the kick
I actually thought Rusty should've explained the 10 metre rule. Watching reactions to our game from other nations, especially in the US don't understand why the defending team is standing that far away from the play the ball & often say things like why are they just standing there while the guys got the ball & not up in his face to tackle. U also made a good point about the attacking off side rule. I know they couldn't go thru every single rule but the offside rule is a huge part of the game as the game relies on the 10 metre rule
Love how Elon spent millions changing the name of twitter and everyone just calls it Twitter still
Enjoy your experience watching 4 great sides from Australia man I'm a Sydney Roosters fan and should be great fun to watch 👍
Rugby League is one of the great codes of football. Nice reation Dar, you may enjoy a Matt Bowen highlight reel as his size and speed was exemplary. Hope you get to see the 1st round in L.A I'm in Sydney, Australia so a bit far...
Field goals are rare. Tries are abundant. Some of the tries are amazing feats of athleticism.
5:36 perfect kick “under pressure”, charge downs aren’t considered knock ons and the defence or attacking can regain the ball with a fresh tackle count
Believe it or not the game has become a lot softer, but much faster in just the last few years
Fan of rugby LEAGUE since I was a kid and also played, I am a Sea Eagles which are playing in Vegas, BUT, Before you go to the game, watch 2 GRAND FINALS which contain the BRISBANE BRONCOS who are playing in Vegas this year.
Irish Nrl fan here the game sells itself, you just need someone to introduce it to you.
It’s the lamest excuse for a sport ever half the game is some guy rolling the ball backwards with his foot.
@@danieleyre8913 Why would I care what you think? 🤦♂️
We use to drop goal are house or fence as kids daily in the 80s lol
You should watch last year's NRL Grand final it was one of the best, and my team wasn't even playing.
GLORY GLORY TO SOUTH SYDNEY 💚❤️💚❤️💚❤️💚❤️💚❤️💚
enjoy the games my man!
Carry on mate. Don't embarrass the country with the afl. There are real men playing.
I hope you enjoy. It’s such a great game and as much as American football is popular in your hugely populated country rugby league is so worth getting into.
Gladiator was Russell Crowe. He also owns the team in Red and Green. The mighty Rabbitohs.
Great video!
Nz we call it league and rugby without the union
You need to make a vlog of your experience next week of the 2 games. Be good to see you there capture all the action and your reaction on it all.😉
You are going to love it mare
His stared with Ryan Gosling in Nice Guys
born in Sydney and follow the roosters. the chooks!! The only foundation club to have played every season since 1908 excluding breaks for war.
Yeah na mate, think you're spot on with that
*The hardest hitting game on the planet - Period! These guys don't have offensive and defensive teams, they do the lot but I really hope a lot of yous go watch a game or two, y'all love it!*
Prepare to fall in love with this sport
You may know Russell Crowe for playing the lead role in the Gladiator or Zeus in the last Thor movie. He owns the South Sydney Rabbitos.
Up the wahs!!
Rugby League and the NRL Competition is most exciting game of contact sport on the planet..
You're gonna see some mad hits, you will not be disappointed. ❤🏉
Hey from New Zealand glad you are going to games grab some friends as it would not be there all the time
The contract is there for the next 5 years but yes the more the better!
Good promo and good commentary from Russell.
