Little India, SINGAPORE ! Street Art Walking Tour and Diwali Market

I woke up at about 6:30am and worked on updating my journal about the epic flight adventure. At 8am we headed down to free breakfast at the place next door called “Munch Cafe”. I ordered the vegetarian set with imitation fish and meat on a noodle base. Jives ordered the American breakfast with egg, toast and sausage. We both had coffees. A large group of Australian tourists came in wearing matching shirts and made a HUGE deal about it, I get it, it’s cute…. But they were sooooo loud. We finished our breakfast and headed out on our first adventure, first stop, Little India. We took the metro to Bugis Station and then walked to a beautiful green and white mosque called “Masjid Abdul Gafoor’. We then walked to Campbell lane and through a street market set up for Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights. The street was packed with garland chains of flowers, candles, fabrics and everything colourful. An overload for the senses! We then headed to Sri Veeramakaliamman, a Hindu temple with the iconic sloped colourful tower covered in carvings of religious creatures and people. Some men were burning things in the temple opening. I went into the temple (after removing my shoes), Jives did not. The inside of the temple was incredible, the walls were lined with alcoves, all with different figures in them. People were laying colourful flowers and candles and ringing bells.
Next we stopped at a corner store for drinks, I had hazelnut coffee. We then walked around admiring street art, and came upon some very colourful buildings where Jives filmed a rap take. The mouldings of these wooden buildings were every colour of the rainbow and so intricate!
We then made our way to Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple, another step pagoda temple. Again I visited on my own as Jives stood outside. This temple was much more spacious and had less people inside. I saw two people laying face down on the floor with their arms raised in a point, presumably praying.
Next we made the short walk to Sri Vadapathira K Temple. We didn’t go into this temple, but admired it from outside. We decided to take a slight side tour off down a narrow street to see a Chinese Buddhist temple called “Leong San See”. This temple was gorgeous and very small. We just love Buddhist Temples. Right across the street was “Sakya Muai Buddha Aaya Temple'' and it had very funny looking animal sculptures outside, so we took a closer look. Inside was huge, with at least a 10 metre tall buddha statue inside.
We then jumped on the metro to Chinatown….

Great! How long were you in Singapore in total?

Only four days! We had heard Singapore was expensive, so we didn't want to book too long, in case it broke the bank. Other than accommodation though, you can visit Singapore pretty cheaply if you want! We will be back 😀
