Wow, terrific detailed video on Agrippa of which we usually hear just a few lines. I am always surprised that since Octavian had little military experience that Agrippa wasn't more in charge when Octavian's camp was overrun on the 1st day of Philippi. Also how many and how old would the prisoners of Carrhae be in 23BCE? The battle took place in 53BCE and it's hard to imagine they had not already been worked to death or sent out to the outer reaches of Parthia for garrison duty. Even the youngest at 16 in 53BCE would be 46 by 23BCE. And your pictures and paintings are great--the uniforms and people look SO much better than they did in real life!
An interesting point about the Battle of Carrhae. The repatriated prisoners were likely a fraction of the soldiers that went missing after that loss. Researchers have concluded in recent years that many of these soldiers were trafficked as far East as China. ⚔️
@@MatthewLum11 Unfortunately updated research on the historical item in conversation has shown it to be largely fiction. Even if a Roman soldier was 16 at the time of Carrhae, the encounter with Chinese troops was THIRTY THREE (33) years later. And the Parthians would not have sent 100 or so Roman prisoners together for fear of group escape. And certainly not allowed to do their testudo formation and their fish scale armor would have long rusted away. Most prisoners of any kind in ancient periods were stripped of their armaments and uniforms to lessen their attachment to their homeland. No DNA that can be traced back to the Roman period has ever been found in the area. Even though the Chinese city name that sounds like 'legion' has a Roman festival with cartoon like Roman costumes, it is based on myths, oral tales and wishful thinking.
My loyalty is rewarded with more content! Thank you so much for all your continued work saving history team! May your content stand as long as the great Roman Colloseum!
Great episode. The outro sfx (stone slam and reverb) caught my shitty phone speakers by surprise, maybe a but lower volume? Just constructive criticism, feel free to ignore it
At the risk of sounding unhinged but Agrippa reminds me of Larry Holmes?????What I mean is Larry Holmes was a great champion but he was never awarded the acolades he deserved! He unfortunately could not escape from under the shadow of the enigma that was Muhammad Ali!The same goes for Augustus and Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa.Sorry, long winded or what??🤣🤣👌👍
Thank you for the video but I strongly prefer the older graphic style with stone busts and paintings. This looks more like warhammer and completely takes me away from history. Thanks again.
If we all could have a friend like Agrippa.
Or better.. be a friend like Agrippa
This is an exceptional post. In fact, I think that overall this and all the other posts are absolutely brilliant.

Agrippa was a monumental Roman!
I've always loved the story of agrippas secret harbour. Conn iggulden covers it in his books so well
I've read a book by Conn Iggulden. Good stuff!

Why do they show the Caesar and other romans as white , when Caesar himself commented on the tallness and whiteness of the barbarians
The images in the background look AI generated. The hands look munted.
