Thank you again, Maddy. This is another special one! This was at Huntington Library by Pasadena, Ca. I have been there a few times. It is a beautiful park which has many gardens, and a museum. In that museum they have the original paintings of 'The Blue Boy' and 'Miss Pinky' among many others. Very special!
Brings me back to grocery shopping with my mom as a kid… they would play instrumentals based off these types of songs. Now too often where you shop or eat out, the music makes you feel like you’re in a night club
I was always a rock man but the Carpenters were one of my favourite alternative groups. Karen’s voice and the production of their records made you sit up. RIP Karen. Such a sad life which could have treated more effectively today. Loved them.
Great reaction, Maddy. Keep up the good work. That was one of my favorite songs by the Carpenters. Some other great songs are Goodbye to Love, I Won’t Last a day Without You, For All We Know, and Yesterday Once More.
The greatest female voice of all time. Even today, I don't hear anyone that can match the emotion in her voice. She had that tear, and sadness in her voice that could reach deep into my soul, and touch my heart. RIP, Karen.
@@MaddyReactions AND WAS/IS the epitome of a vocalist (not just a great singer) who sang TO the listener and NOT at them. She knew her job was to be a storyteller and to convey the lyrics of every song and she was brilliant doing this, a talent that 9 out of 10 singers today simply cannot do or forget that their job....Her brother called her voice, phrasing and interpretations as PHONO-GENIC... You felt that she was singing only for you and to you....
At the time she was popular many of us thought of The Carpenters as kind of superficial 'bubblegum' (an actual musical niche) kind of band. Many of us preferred the Rolling Stones, Cream, and other bands that were a bit more darker. But Karen's perfect voice has more than stood the test of time. She is truly one of the best singers of her or any other time. I think, for me, it is the silky tonal quality above all other aspects of her beautiful voice. It is so sad she died from complications of an eating disorder. Thanks for your reaction!
Great reaction. If you want a feel good song, that actually makes you feel good. Listen to their song Top Of The World. It's pretty catchy though, it will definitely stick in your mind. You probably already know that they were brother and sister right?
This is so good as a video, and would have been harder to make. Most people don't realize that the equipment to synchronize video to audio was hard to come by in the 70s. Yes, that was her brother. She had body issues that ultimately cost her her life. Her brother had addiction issues (Qaaludes). I loved her voice. I liked this song and "Rainy Days and Mondays"
@@MaddyReactions hi again Maddy. I see someone has my idea in your comments. Last May 4th I made a Kofi request for We’ve Only Just Begun cover by James Wilkas ft. Tori Holub. All I want to know is if it’s lost or in the queue. It is a long time, and I’ve had requests get lost. I just got one done from a June request. So, it happens. Given the date maybe I was in a Star Wars mood, I don’t remember. 😂 I think you already reacted to Rainy Days & Mondays, my fave Carp. song. My request came just days after Tori performed at the Carpenters 55th Anniversary, where she met with Richard. Thanks for any updates and #KeepTheMusicAlive Joe
@MaddyReactions the location is the world renowned Huntington Library and Japanese/ Chinese Gardens in San Marino, CA. The library is home to many original paintings (Pinky and Blue Boy) as well as one of the remaining Guttenberg Bibles. The Bible is encased in plexiglass and on display for the public. No flash photography permitted
HAH: a CHALLENGE. There is a tribute artist out there by the name of Tori Holub. I know, I know. Tribute artist...blech. However, you might find this one a tad different. She has done tik tok shorts, several covers of several artists, and at least two original songs. PLEEZ start with We've Only Just Begun, with Jim the midi doctor and his many musical friends. I highly doubt you will be disappointed. Trust me.
I funded this song months ago. I hope it’s in the queue and not lost. And I don’t think Tori considers herself a tribute artist. It’s just her voice is so close. She covers a lot of old songs, as you know. Some new. Joe
@@ericzeichert511 I just wrote to Maddy, I found my receipt from May. It was days after I saw Tori at the 55th. Keep up the requesting. It’s basically Ron and me. It’s hard and $$. 😊 Joe
Interesting you mention the lively drumming. No, Karen didn't play drums on this; Jim Gordon did. Jim is famous for playing with over a hundred artist as a studio musician as well as playing in bands, Derek and the dominos, and Traffic. His girlfriend at the time, Rita Coolidge, is uncredited with writing the famous piano part in "Lala" although Jim took credit for it. Jim is infamous for killing his mother with a hammer and then stabbing her to death in 1983. He was convicted of murder later found to be schizophrenic. He lived the rest of his days in a mental institution never to be released. He just died in 2023. You can't make this stuff up.
Looks like the singles with Karen's drumming are: "Ticket to Ride", "Sing", "Yesterday Once More", and "Please Mr. Postman". Other than those, most of the others are Hal Blaine. "Only Yesterday" was their first single where the drumming wasn't either Karen or Hal.
I WORSHIP HER ,MY FAVOURITE FEMALE SINGER. I OWN EVERYTHING ON THE CARPENTERS !! TOO BAD NO ONE KNEW ABOUT "ANOREXIA" OR "BULIMIA"..... BLAME HER MOTHER FOR CALLING HER FAT AND CHUNKY OVER AND OVER MADDY....😭😭😭😭😭😭
Oh, God. She was already sooo thin. It just broke my heart when we learned WHY she had died so suddenly. Best female vocalist of my lifetime. A favorite song is Masquerade and their Xmas album, A Christmas Portrait is a holiday Must in our home.
I don't know if I read you correctly in your reaction, but it seems like you might have gotten a little choked up during that song. I know that I do most every time I hear Karen singing. Such a warm, gorgeous voice gone much too early :-( And on a side note, even with misty eyes, you look sensational. But that's nothing new. 🤗
Yupp, nobody since. Adele is the closest today, although can't go as high or low as Karen. Billie Eilish is over hyped, they covered one song and the media went wild. "Blest the Beasts and the Children" from the movie of the same name, around 1974 .
That is one of the most perfect arrangements ever recorded in the world. Everything happens perfectly in time.

She is simply incredible. My favorite singer of all time and a great drummer also.one of the most talented woman ever..
Only Yesterday - an A&M "promo film" form 1975. Filmed in Studio D and on location at Huntington Gardens in Pasadena, California.
San Marino, CA adjacent to Pasadena.
When this was filmed, it was the Huntington Library and Japanese Gardens. They've since added Chinese Gardens to the estate as well.
One of the best voices ever. Two of her best, in my opinion, are A Song for You and Superstar.
I haven’t heard this in such a long long time. All her great songs I feel I took for granted that she’d be with us forever.
Simply breathing Beautiful Maddy thank U for the reaction 😊😊😊
The Carpenters were so good. Love their harmonies and Karen’s voice was just magical. ❤❤❤🙏🙏😊

Her brother Richard is a tremendous musician and arranger. Karen was a fantastic drummer as well as a talented singer. Thanks for a great reaction.
The park in the music video is Huntington Library Botanical Gardens in San Marino (a Los Angeles suburb south of Pasadena).
Grew up listening to Carpenters music in the early to late 70s... Just ❤

we were truly blessed that Karen graced us all with her all too short but so elegantly wonderful presence on this Earth . . . . . . . . . . .
Not only was Karen’s voice absolutely angelic, but she was also a great drummer
Good drummer

Always loved this song. I'm pretty sure the "park" was the Huntington Library in San Marino California, which was local to them.
Oooh!!
@@MaddyReactionsin Los Angeles “local” is a relative term. San Marino is 17 miles from Downey and can take weeks depending on freeway conditions. 😂

Karen had a sound of warmth and of longing in her voice that won hearts.

At least for me; Karen & Judith Durham (The Seekers) are some of the best ear candy.
Top 5 female vocalist and songwriter brother!
Karen Carpenters is one in a million and the Carpenters music it's timeless rest in peace Karen Carpenter
There are so many I could call my favorite however masquerade is just a beautiful song

Please check out " This Masquerade " by Carpenters
This song is longer on the album version. 👍
I love everything Karen sang. But this song was my favorite.
"You're killing me, smalls". Just trying to get a response to the email on the request I purchased.
If you paid you should get your request. unless its held up somehow. The ones I donate to do it the next day normally.
